Just listen to those shifts in dynamics. That's the tell-tale sign of total control of the instrument. Incredible.

Defy the laws of physics. I have been playing and listening to guitarists for many years and I have never seen a pick technique like this. The dynamic control at high speeds in addition to jumping strings (without ever sacrificing sound quality) is simply amazing.

Unfortunately, when you get to a certain level of technique, like what's on display here, it goes over most people's heads. Of course, guitarists or people in the know will see this and be blown away, but the average person is impressed mostly by flashiness. That's why people who don't know about guitar technique see tapping and assume it must be the hardest technique because it looks the "coolest". I could play the most technically demanding piece I know for someone and they'd most likely say "yeah, that was cool" but if I played the tapping part of Eruption (which is admittedly tame compared to the rest of the track) they would say "Wow, you're so good, that's insane!" It's all about how people percieve things.
