Living in Miami is different than visiting. And people born and raised here look at the city differently than people that move here. In this video, I am going to give you my perspective of the city and why Miami might not be for you.

Miami is for entrepreneurs , investors , starts ups and straight hustlers . If you know how to create income and have a adaptable mindset you can figure it out . You a youtuber so it shouldn’t be bad at all if your channel is monetize and you have passive income hustles . Miami really not expensive compared to NY, LA and D.C.

It can also be a little more complex, Anton and the younger gentleman could be moving in different circles, want or need different things - see Anton's Feb 21, 2021 video. Anton had two months of living in Miami and the other gentleman has years, people perceive black men differently according to age group.

I do love Miami but only for recreational purposes that is it. Two months is not enough to get to know the real Miami Before I moved to Miami 15 years ago, I came to visit many times before and it was completely different as compared to after I moved there permanently, I am here in south Florida only because of my kids but I am feud up with SFL, very high cost of living and very low wages, at least for the poor class (no middle class anymore)

I was born and raised in Miami. When the local was talking about people not being friendly, he is talking about other places than Brickell, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, and Wynwood. He is talking about the places outside of those areas like Hialeah, Allapattah, Carol City, Miami Gardens and opa-Locka just to name a few. Where you're visiting and staying are places that rely on tourism. So they are going to treat you a little bit nicer so that you can encourage people to come visit like you're doing in these videos. Also the people staying there are people just like you either snow birds or just moved to Miami, not people that were born and raised here. As for people in Miami taking the beach for granted a lot of people form Miami have been there several of times and it gets old trying to look for parking and spending an arm and a leg for food. Most families just buy a house with a pool and enjoy the weather in the comforts of their own home. There is a really a dark side to Miami with all the violence and crazy people down here. So for some advice never let your guard down because there are some sneaky people here in Miami and they will take advantage of you. But I hope that never happens and you enjoy your stay in Miami.

Born and raised in Miami just like you. The places you mentioned like Hialeah, Allapattah, Carol City, MG, and Opa-Locka are the real Miami. Miami Beach, Brickell, and Gables are all tourists and transplants. Those aren't the real Miami, it's what everyone thinks Miami is from what is glorified in movies and television.

Bro this is so spot on! I’m born & raised here as well. You couldn’t said that any better! Yeah the Downtown area, Brickell, wynwood, Miami Beach is straight tourist land! so the energy is different in those areas compared to the outskirts of Miami where most of the locals are located. The ppl living in those high rises are mostly outsiders from over seas or kids from wealthy families and snow birds. it’s rare u see a local in staying in brickell and if you do! they most likely are rooming up with like 4-5 heads in a studio splitting the rent. tryna liv the Miami life. the city is full of narcissist be aware lol && The beach and clubs does get old quick especially if you grew up in that environment. I’ve been going to the club scene since high school days here in Miami so that stuff gets old over time. I plan on moving to Arizona soon I’ve been here my whole life! The problem that the people from Miami have is that a lot of them can barely afford to live there. They basically are servants to the tourists or those who move there with A LOT of money that they made some where else (imported wealth). I also find Miami to be a very friendly place, I have an easy time meeting and connecting with people in Miami. I used to live in Miami. I love Miami, but if you don't have a high stream of income from somewhere else/investments/remote then Miami can be a struggle. You don't want to rely on the local economy/jobs for your income because the property is high and the pay tends to be low. Great place to enjoy wealth, but not a great place to create wealth.

Miami is a place that brings out a lot of energy and passion. over time, you will learn to be more at ease and relate more to what those before you are saying. this way, you could better guide your fam and friends who aren't as well off as you, but think they could come to meeyamee with a bus ticket and a dream. For a person like you coming from Detroit, I could understand why you love Miami so much and you can't understand why people would want to move away from Miami. Detroit compared to Miami in my opinion is like comparing weeds to roses. I also do think you might need to be there way longer than just a month or two to really get a feel of how the people in the city are. But all in all it is a nice city in general and is definitely a cultural melting pot. You definitely have to have money to be there or you'll just be living basic and or probably won't like it. Money changes everything as well as people's perceptions and experience with any place or city.

The think is many people who aren’t natives don’t realize the true cost of living in Miami in accordance to the pay rate. When looking at Miami one also has to notice the area known as Miami Dade County which can be considered a “suburb” with neighborhoods like Kendall, Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay and pinecrest. These are all nice neighborhoods for natives and not to mention residents in Miami don’t go to the touristy areas like the beach and downtown first because it is very expensive food, activities and even parking which is crazy. Second people living in Miami aren’t here on vacation they are here to live with their family and while we do still go to beaches it’s not going to be as often with work, school and other things that need to get done.

Me and my wife went to Miami for 5 days. It was out worst vacation by far. The people were rude and self centered. The people had a really bad attitude. The customer service was the worst I've ever experienced. I went to a bar / restaurant and the lady literally never gave us a menu, when we did get one, she never brought us the food. Then she yelled at me for getting mad at them. I've never been to a place where they don't even bring you the food and menu! I had a $200 dollar dinner and the experience was just average! People honk at everything. People move to the city for the Amenities. Miami has none. There was literally nothing to do and the few things you could do closed really early. The price for everything was way too high for shitty service or value they provided. The hotel took our deposit 3 times and never refunded it and this was the first time out of all the places I visited that did that. And the urban sprawl is ridiculous.

I think if you are a regular at a restaurant or coffee place than yea, they can be. But if you are not hispanic, you will never penetrate any kind of actual social circle. The majority of people I know here are ones who never left this "bubble". They went to elite prep schools are still friends with the same people from high school. They have no other friends, strictly their high school pod, and they are in their mid 30's and early 40's. That's alarming to me. Most of them either went to UM or went away for four years and came back to marry someone from high school. They live four miles away from their parents and put their kids in the same elite prep schools they attended and the cycle repeats. There is zero diversity. Even if you learn Spanish, you are not included. I'm a white woman and feel like I know what being like a minority is like here and the isolation is horrible. In terms of the weather, yes, it isn't freezing, but also this is a place that never changes. You lose track of the years without a summer, spring, fall, winter ect. That being said, I've never been but have heard Detroit is rough. I think as much as I hate it here, I would choose Miami over there any day and see why you are so enthralled. My hope is that with more people migrating to Florida, Miami might become more diverse (more white, black, asian) and not 99.9 percent hispanic and might become more habitable in a few more years.

I think when you ask the locals, the ones that will most likely have anything negative to say about living here, most likely don’t live in the areas you are. Yes it’s a beautiful city, but if you go to other areas like Liberty City, The Gould’s, Little Haiti, North Miami, Opa Locka and areas like those, your not really going to get that tourist or hospitality feeling that you will get when you visit areas like Brickell or South Beach.

Things I noticed were.... lots of pretty women, luxury cars are everywhere, roosters are roaming the city, the winter weather is absolutely perfect, it’s dense and crowded, horrible drivers and rude people. English is like a second language, lots of beautiful palm trees. The city is gentrifying. Cops are everywhere. And I will say we experienced lots of rude no nonsense people everywhere around the city, even the airport workers. And we are small town friendly people, we are nice to everyone and display manners. But I know big city people are always rushed and such but I have been to many different big cities through the USA and Miami is probably most relatable to how New Yorkers were perceived in the 90’s with their blunt no non sense attitudes. It’s a pretty city though. We chose Miami because of its natural beauty and its Latin influences, and my family are Puerto Rican heritage but maybe we hyped it up too much idk

Miami is dominated by latino culture, more precisely cuban culture plus colombian, dominican, peruvian, ecuadorian etc. Then you have other non latino cultures, hatian, hasidic jewish, techno culture, hip hop and a tiny soul/jazz culture. Moved to Miami in 1979 this narrative is naive at best and disingenuous at worst. Cost of living is “not bad”? Sure, if you are a transplant from a blue state shit hole and are getting paid blue state rates while working remote or are wealthy with a source of income outside of Miami. Quit your current job, apply for a job with a local company in Florida see what you get. Bought my first town house at 23 for $76k 3/2 in 1986, bought 2nd at 29 for $99 3/2 in 1995, 3rd one for $275 4/2.5 in 2000. Not one of those is under $350k-$550k. How in the fuck does a 23 year old in 2021 buy a starter home in this city where median income is $53k? Add, ridiculous insurance costs, property taxes and the inflated cost of everything in the last 20 years and I hope they don’t have student debt, medical issues or lose their jobs. Unemployment pays a staggering $275 a week. That should get anyone through a pandemic, right? The true cost of living here is wages paid vs. cost of living! Stop spreading bullshit. People are nice? Being originally from the NE I can tell you I’ll take a NY’er any day over a the narcissist, self entitled, self important, scammers we have here. The way they drive is very indicative of how much they appreciate fellow human beings. BTW, you being a black guy what they don’t tell you to your Face is the rampant racism in Miami. But yeah, they are nice people. Now go buy your Rolex or Patek Philippe and GTFOH!

I from Miami. Born and raised. To suggest that we don’t appreciate it is a disrespectful comment. Maybe my interpretation of what you’re wrong. If so please forgive me. Your culture from being up north is totally different. The reason why most blacks from there don’t care to live there is because of the struggles of not speaking Spanish. It’s hard for blacks to advance there. And the ones that are doing well usually migrate there transferring their job. We love our city just as much as anyone else. It is as equally hard for my Latin/Spanish brothers as well. Miami is a city that doesn’t pay much. It’s a right to work state. There’s no unions to fight for equal pay unlike up north. I made it out. But I also understand that I’m the exception. People down there love it there. You’ve only been there a month. How can you suggest that you can’t understand why people don’t wanna be there or live there ( I’m paraphrasing). You have the typical attitude of a tourist. By all means I don’t mean any disrespect. You can't really commute if you work Downtown or in Brickell (3) Brickell reminds me a lot of Seaport except with less shops. (4) There is way less public space compared to Boston (5) There actually seem to be a good amount of hidden running trails and not many people running after work like in Boston. (6) The people are much more rude compared to Boston especially customer service. (7) Brickell, Edgewater and Wynwood feel soulless but I like Downtown. Its mix between working class and white collar. (8) I like how people in Boston hide their wealth but Miami is way over the top flashy. @@timofeypiper I definitely agree. I personally adore south beach! Very very walkable and everything I need is on the island. No need for a car, maybe a scooter. Ubers from one end of the island to another were less than 10 bucks lol. I don’t really like the city of Miami though, too much sprawl, which I find super ugly. Boston is an old city so things are much more congested and look much nicer, has a lot more charm. But here you definitely get more space for your money that’s for sure. Boston hides their wealth but it is a very elitist city. I noticed in Miami money is money regardless if you went to a fancy pants school. Each place has their pros and cons, really depends on your personality. I’m trying to work from home, so south beach for me would be great, if you go towards the middle of the island further from the beach and tourists, there’s a ton of green space, very quiet, people walking their dogs, kids playing in parks, real family friendly. To think a few blocks down is party central lolol.

Lived there for 10 years, had lots of jobs, lots of great experiences, met really good people. The jobs don't pay much so living in the outskirts is definitely more affordable. It was great to be near such gorgeous, deep blue magical Atlantic Ocean water (something one comes to appreciate more after living up north) I lived in Miami for 10 years. I have now been away for 10 years, living here in VA, my best friends are still the ones I've made in FL. I cannot wait to move back, I question myself why I left everyday. There is something in the air in South FL that just makes feel healthier, like a blossoming flower.

I grew up and live in Miami. I moved back in 2016 after living away for 10 years. Here's the issue with Miami that's overlooked in this video: Miami is expensive because people here make so little. Yes, you go to Coral Gables, Brickell, Midtown, the Beach and it all seems great. But what most non-locals miss is that the vast majority of Miami does not live or even frequent those places. Unless you've gone out to Westchester, Sweetwater, Hialeah, West Kendall, North Miami, Miami Gardens, Allapattah, Opa-Locka and other places outside these urban core centers, you haven't really experienced the Miami that locals experience. In these areas I mention, most people do make $10-15 an hour and people live an hour to an hour and a half from their jobs so they can afford a decent home to raise their kids. The best public schools are mediocre, even if you buy in a wealthy area. Wealthy parents and parents with the knowledge to navigate our school system send their kids to private schools, magnet schools or charters. Miami has beautiful well-dressed people, many of them with money (or at least their act like they have money), but if you're looking for smart career-driven people with whom to have a conservation, the pickings are slim. I lived for a year in a Brickell building and I constantly felt that half the residents in my building didn't actually work for a living.

Yes I'm from Miami born and raised for approximately 46 and I must tell you that your dead on about the crazy driving . The trend started approximately 10 years ago and is pretty much out of control. Believe it or not most are Hispanics from various countries who basically have no traffic laws in there country so when they arrive here with nothing and are driving the fastest and most expensive cars within a matter of weeks it's a given. Those areas you mentioned are very nice but unless your a tourist the local pretty much ain't going unless it's a particular store or restaurant one what's to patronize bin that area. Miami is very rich in culture but the racism is waaaay off the charts against blacks no matter of money or status. Like JT Money Said .... It's a nice place to visit But You Don't Wanna Live Here !!!

I wasn’t born there, but I’ve been here for 16 years. He wasn’t lying about the people overall not being friendly. That has nothing to do with energy you put out etc as one response states. Does it mean you don’t encounter ANY good natured people? Not at all. Each city has a climate. No one would describe South Florida as a friendly city and that’s just what it is. When you deal with the traffic and rude people day in and day out, it’s exhausting. Not everyone is that way, but it’s such a melting pot with so many communities & cultures that in some ways these things never really “blend” or connect. My opinion also has nothing to do with money either, although it is expensive.I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love the beaches and it’s so beautiful. So beautiful! But the people…they leave a lot to be desired on most days.

I am a Miami native born and raised and currently living here and awe have been here for several generations. Miami is nice to visit but living here is a totally different ball game. While there are many things to appreciate about living here in terms of diversity, I believe there are many other parts of South Florida that are much more ideal for living. As a native, I will tell you the issues I have felt with being born and raised here 1 . Too much traffic 2.So many people don’t speak English and it can make it very difficult to conduct business if you are a native English speaker 3. Too much traffic 4. It’s so hard to enjoy going to the beach without struggling to find parking 5. Miami has many congested neighborhoods. Unless your in a bigger part of the city like bricked, Doral , or South Miami, many places feel very cramped. 6. The Job Market here sucks unless you are in the medical field or Hospitality field. 7. Always construction on the roads 8. Living here, especially as a young person you are under lots of pressure to conform to the party and going out mentally just to keep friends. 9. Housing is to damn expensive

I just did not have a good experience going to Miami Florida. It was such a culture shock and I probably will never come back. The waiters were so rude and nothing was personal. Every single place my friend and I had gone to the place was not working for different reasons. One the card machine was down and the lady who was working there is all like, sorry... sarcastically and continued to text. Then every time I held doors for people they looked at me like I had 3 heads. No one small talked whatsoever and the service in the hotel was horrific. Idk, maybe I just had a bad experience but coming from the stl region it was like a completly different country or something. No one said thank you or smiled... Idk, it just was the oddest experience that I do not want to relive again. Towards the end of the trip my friend and I's mood shifted very negatively. Glad some people fit in though... I just could not seem to no matter how friendly I was. I suppose the midwest where I was born and rasied is different feel and that is why I was so thrown off.
