Good shit. I always like the inner workings of baseball...like a day in the life. I dated David Ortiz's niece in 1999 when he played for the Twins and got to hang out with him for a weekend. It was pretty cool to see the routine when they left for the game, what they did after the game (in this case went and ate supper at 10:30PM and had some beers....)

The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that they will voluntarily pay their minor league players more money. There was a class action lawsuit by former players that went nowhere. The signing bonuses for high draft picks is huge. That should be calculated in the numbers. What's really unfair is that college student athletes make millions and millions of dollars for their colleges and get paid nothing. Even students on academic scholarship can get paid work on their campuses, but American colleges think their athletes should settle for the scholarship. Most of the degrees that they earn are worthless. A college athlete who doesn't get drafted by the NBA, NHL, MLB or NFL basically worked for three to four years for free and have nothing to show for it. There are a few exceptions. Some bright students who also excelled at sports and earned a degree that will enrich their lives and provide future employment opportunities, but for the vast majority the payoff with a big major league contract or signing bonus is the thing.

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this! I think the missing link when I was doing my research yesterday was I didn't know about the 40 man salary. Contextually my friend was saying that one of the players who was on our big league team (but was making league minimum) but got sent down to AAA should be happy he's getting paid to play baseball. Having watching some of your other videos I was like "yea but they're not even making minimum wage down there" and he couldn't believe me. Will have to show him this so he can appreciate the hustle those guys are putting in day in day out. Thanks again for the videos. Can't tell you how much more enjoyable this season has been watching your channel and seeing some of the stuff that goes on behind the scenes to make a major league game happen. Cheers!

Antonelli you said one thing wrong. If you get a massive baseball contract, you can't just decide to go play whiffle ball in your backyard and still get paid a huge contract. If you are hurt, you have to get therapy. But, if you are not hurt, or you have a minor ankle spring, you still have to be with the team including when they travel to other cities you have to be on the bench. That is part of the players union collective agreement. If you are caught doing something strenous outside the stadium when you are supposed to be off your feet or in a cast for example, the team could actually ask you to explain why you are risking injury when you say you are already hurt if you are under contract. But, you just can't decide on a whim to not play if you are not hurt and still make a big salary like you said at 14:51.

Dude honestly thank you for this video, as a dback fan we have a lot of call ups, and I always wonder “do they get league minimum just for playing one game?” I figured not, but thank you for clearing that.

Thanks for sharing this! Found this video very interesting. So when a base runner gets on first, what do they usually chat with the first baseman about? Where to eat? Where to party? Life in general?

Might be a tough one to answer but as a former Padre, what are your thoughts on Andy Green? There are a ton of fans who believe who should get fired and I've always wondered what the players think

Gabriel Sanchez I mean, he won’t know since he probably doesn’t know what he’s like in the clubhouse.
