@@ABANDONEDCHANNEL68 The AN-225 made its first flight on the 21st of December 1988 taking off from the factory aerodrome in Svyatoshyn. The airplane was flown by a crew headed by Oleksandr Galunenko. Mriya was developed for transportation of the Buran shuttle orbiter and components of the Energiya carrier rocket. The AN-225 was also expected to be used as a flying space launching site in the reusable aerospace transport system (MAKS) with the airplane making its first stage and a small-size space shuttle with a fuel tank - the second stage. Mriya can deliver extra-heavy oversize cargo to any point on the globe carrying it either inside the fuselage or on external stores. Two AN-225 airplanes were built. Construction of one of the aircraft was completed. Fuselage and tail unit were assembled at Antonov Kyiv Mechanical Works facility in Kyiv, while the wing center section and outer wing panels were assembled at Valerii Chkalov Tashkent Production Association in Tashkent. I was at Boeing Field in Seattle when an AN-124 was parked in transient parking there. A 737 business jet came in, and they parked it under the wing of the AN-124. That's a big ship. The -225 must have been truly something to see in person.

Had the pleasure of seeing this giant at GSP International in Greer South Carolina in November 2007. She was picking up diesel turbine engines from the nearby General Electric plant in Greenville.. What an awesome sight to see. I believe she'll be rebuilt..

To be absolutely accurate, Hostomel is the Antonov production facility, and equipped for heavy lift operations in a way Kyiv's other passenger airports aren't. That made it an ideal bridgehead for the first Russian attack, as described. However, a second airframe reached 60% completion in the Antonov plant, and remains available.

Not exactly, the production facility (ADB and the production plant) is in Kyiv itself, while Hostomel international airport is the base of the separate Antonov Airlines, not of the plant, it features a hangar or two only

Simply amazing, this queen of the skies. And she had such a friendly “face”. A span of 88 m includes around 8 single-family houses that stand next to each other. And a height of 18 m, which is around 6 floors for a house. It's such a shame that it was destroyed by the damn war in Ukraine. Whether it can be rebuilt? The Experimental Design Bureau "Antonov" OKB-153 was established on May 31, 1946 by a decree of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks and the Council of Ministers of the USSR at the Novosibirsk Aviation Plant named after V.P. Chkalov, Russia. Antonov Oleg Konstantinovich was appointed chief designer. In the summer of 1952, the OKB, on Stalin's orders, was transferred to Kyiv with the entire staff. It so happened historically that the communists of the USSR in 1922 allowed Ukraine to use the land of the Russian Empire with Russian factories located on it (this is the entire southeast of Ukraine). When leaving the USSR in 1991, Ukraine "forgot" to return to Russia its land with these plants (this is a huge territory of 2/3 of the entire territory of Ukraine) Study this question yourself.

Many inaccuracies: this aircraft was not originally Ukrainian. Ukraine received it as a legacy from the Soviet Antonov design bureau. What did Ukraine do in this plane - they simply repainted it in Ukrainian colors. The plane itself was developed by order of the USSR government for the Soviet space program. Of course, the Antonov Design Bureau was Soviet.

Самолет производился в кооперации с кучей заводов не на украине и если бы руководство СССР хоть на секунду предполагало бы, что украина может хоть когда либо отделиться, то никакой авиазавод там строить бы не стали. Хохлы сами неспособны спроектировать самолет. Чтобы сделать его крыло нужны технологии аллюминиевого литья, титановые и прочие. Их нету на украине. Такое громадное крыло им не сделать. При распаде СССР украине вообще много чего досталось. Все это постепенно разворовывается и деградирует. Закрываются заводы, беднеет население.
