I scoffed really loud when you mentioned how Boeing’s “rigorous testing processes” set them apart from the competition.

Tragically, it wasn’t always that way. Boeing used to have an unrivaled reputation for extremely high and rigorous engineering standards. But once management became ‘PowerPoint/Excel engineers’ focused on bean counting and DEI it became not a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’ failures would occur in production aircraft.

Maybe change flight path?
@davebowman649717 күн бұрын
London Heathrow to New York JFK is 5555 kilometers, shortest distance. Assuming you could fly that path and you reached top speed immediately and could keep it all the way, then that would mean 2777.5 km/hour. (That is roughly a mach number of 2.3, more than most jet fighters!) The Concorde had a cruising speed of 2158 km/h, so your wished-for plane would have to be 29% faster. Now ,take into consideration that you can't reach cruising speed immediately, probably can't go supersonic at all over land, can't fly the straight route etc. Just going into eg JFK requires to approach in a certain pattern that could easily require to circle the airport for 15 minutes, and that at relatively low speeds because you're in a queue pattern with a lot of "ordinary" airliners going maybe 600 km/h at this stage, getting lower when closing in on the runway. I'm guesstimating, but you dream jet would probably have to cruise at or above mach 3 (roughly 3550 km/h). The Lockhees SR-71 had a top speed of 3550 km/h. The cost of such a plane would be extremely high. Thus, the ticket price would be extremely high. Thus, the market would be very (VERY!) small. Airline companies would not be interested, and thus Airbus would not be interested in building it. Even if they were, You'd have to be very (VERY!) rich to afford the ticket. There were some twin seat SR-71s built. Maybe find one that can be restored to flight-wothy condition, and try to hire a retired CIA pilot. 😂 Also, convince the authorities at both ends to allow you to traffic their airports with an SR-71.. And remember to add the time to get in and out of the flight suit needed. It's more or less a space suit , so it will take time. Maybe add an hour getting prepared, and 30 minutes getting out of it. So now we're back at Concorde crossing times.. Aaand... The whole Concorde thing was terminated due to bad economy. (The Paris CDG crash just helped to counter the prestige of the Concorde program.) Yes, maybe Airbus can do it - technically. But Airbus' "raison-d'etre" is to make a profit. Same for the Airline companies. It won't happen.

A380 is the best airplane ever made, in fact it's the only airplane I feel comfortable for long journeys. Cabin pressure, toilet size, silence, vibe of being inside an airship... is just perfect. The big problem with the A380 is landing at Birmingham, UK with a nearly full plane and two other flights landing around the same time. The terminal was swamped, Emirates limo service were calling asking where I got to. Now whether the other two flights were late or early I don't know. Emirates choice of business seating on the A380 is streets ahead of their choice on the B777 which is more of a coffin.
