What an absolutely amazing aircraft and something it's unlikely we'll ever see built again. Congratulations must go to our friends in Russia and the Ukraine (whatever your politics may be) simply for actually building and flying this one-of-a-kind mega aircraft - which actually works ! If it has been destroyed in a fit of pique, then those responsible should be jailed as there was NO good reason for wrecking this amazing plane AND Of course a BIG thank you to all our enthusiastic plane spotters for obtaining this great footage of a wonderful aircraft we may never see again !

Even though its a fully functional and operating Air force base, I think they should have a viewing platform to stop to many plane spotters gathering round the runaway exit...In my honest opinion.

Hi there Casey, you probably don't remember me but I was at the thistle hotel next to you filming the planes. It was on the video where the thumbnail was a Philippines 777-300er. I was only there for a little.

He seemed to take a long time putting the undercarriage up. Great video was lucky enough to see it in Manchester a few years ago.
@CPlanespotting6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd say due to hot brakes there, big aircraft, lots of undercarriage, and he was braking quite regularly. So yeah

Can't see why wingspan would make a difference to landing direction, the runway is the same width both ways!
@ahm_7676 жыл бұрын
There were two reasons for the decision to land on RWY07. First was safety, second was convenience. However, I'll start with the convenience aspect first. The winds were relatively calm and did not exceed the tailwind component of the An225 for landing so the choice was acceptable both ways. In regards to wingspan, landing on RWY25 would've meant that vacating to the left to taxi to where it was due to park would've meant entering a portion of taxiway not suitable for an aircraft with that kind of wingspan, that includes the An124 and 747s too. By landing on RWY07 all that the An225 needed to do (bearing in mind it was already over 24 hours late) was to vacate right and park. In regards to safety, there was a concern that spotters on the RWY25 end may become injured by blast or that the spotters themselves may pose a risk to the aircraft. Last year an An124 landed on RWY25 at Brize with only INCHES to spare from the fence. Had the An225 did something similar to that, there is no doubt someone may have been seriously injured or killed. There are reports that it was indeed the crew that was made aware of this and then made the decision to land the other way. Hope that helps :)

It depends on its load weight, at its maximum 634 tons the wing span tips are only 6inches off the ground...so there isn't much room for error!
@ahm_7676 жыл бұрын
It came in empty on a ferry flight so that would be irrelevant in this case.
