I just finished eating dinner and I come back to this. I was hoping for a long awaited update of the Black Dragons soon. But not like this! Based on the lack of dead bodies, it seems fairly likely to me that they simply moved. However, I'm a bit worried about the Pharaoh ants you can't seem to get rid of. Your older and larger colonies seem to persevere fine. But they seem like a menace for your newer colonies.

I had a similar reaction. I'm hoping that these are like the carpenter ants that 'disappeared' right after he released them. I used to have many fish tanks. Everything from salt water sea horse tanks to fresh water shark tanks. Without fail, something catastrophic would always happen when I went on vacation. Makes you almost not want to leave, but you can't let your pets hold you hostage. Hopefully he is able to determine their whereabouts before he returns. I'm sure this is weighing relatively heavy on him and impacting his trip. Fingers crossed that they are located and found to be fine.

I noticed that ants that I see often usually take a bite of the food I drop, and then scurry off to their colonies. In a few minutes, the food is covered by ants: some staying to eat their fill, while others are more careful of me looking over them, and hide. I never knew how complecated and amazing ants were!

I didnt realize how much hate there was toward the "fabricated drama" until I saw the last community post on this terrible update for our Black Dragons! I feel its only right to apologize for being a voice against such things. It will always frustrate me to see something you've done presented as a mysterious problem for us all to gasp and be suspenseful over...but it's not okay when the real problems are assumed to be fabricated before we have heard anything about what is going on. Keep living your awesome life, and I hope your travels are exciting and joyous even in the wake of yet another disappearance of a colony. So frankly, yes I do feel bad for contributing to people being asshats. I love his conent, and I HATE things like the fog machine that he played off as a potential problem when HE installed it. That doesnt matter if he actually tells us what is going on in the second video a week he is trying to put out and we STILL call him out for clickbaiting when he is going out of his way to do stuff for us while he is on vacation.

I think me and many of my fellow long time ac family would like at least smaller colonies in formicariums for better viewing and would create less stress for you because you can monitor the ant colonies progression better

Nathan Thomas well that may be what you and some viewers "want" but do you know if that's what he wants? If it was, I'm sure he would have already been doing something like that. His earlier videos were like that and they have great rewatchablility. He obviously wants to do things this way and even if it stresses him out is more than happy with how things are going. I teach high school in California and I want students to be quiet, be at least half engaged, respectful and keep cell phones put away. But why do I get? Loudmouthed, direspectful, gold fish attention spanned, electronic addicts. These things are not of my choosing and I am constantly stressed but I have to take what I can get. Weird example to illistrate the point of he loves what he does, had a previous format upon which he had evolved, and most likely thrives off of the stress and thrill, like most professionals who enjoy their work, of keeping colonies of this size. All of this is his choice. I'm sure there have to be other ant keeper KZbinrs who do things differently that people don't need to be whining, threatening, or so insisting he change to fit their opinion of what's good and marketable, however well intentioned. Sorry if this seems aggressive. I just hate people who don't know what's happening behind the scenes or even what it takes to do small insignificant YT videos let alone something of this magnitude and continuity. To deescalate any hard feelings I would to compliment you on your profile picture. Hopefully that's one of your own harvesting and is an awesome deer. Keep up the good hunt!

I am not an expert, but there is little known about how these ants operate, right? Maybe these ants like moving their homes often seeing it as a way to avoid instability in the leaves. Leaves do die at one point after all, and that would be considerably unsafe for the colony. If this is so, they may have migrated to another location, as they did way back when you found them in the skull. Its just a thought though.

I love antkeeping, its like real life sims, building your own empire, providing them food watching them grow in population and you are kind of like the mayor or king making decisions, providing them a comfortable place and home by continuous upgrades and also taking care not only the economical side but the military side (Invasion by feral ants like the pharaohs). My guess they disappeared due to invasion by feral ants. You got to spend more budget on military defense for this colony!

Yes, it does like when they discover a new species of ant (a few weeks ago it made world news that a new exploding ant was discovered in Borneo), or when certain topics go viral, ABW can cover how it applies to the ant world. Basically, Ant Bite Wednesday is about anything and everything that cannot be included in the Saturday main videos.

Maybe they've moved to a higher place in the terrarium since as far as I know and heard from my grandfathers that these ants love to live in high ground and that they're mostly found on high branches on trees in the wild... But initially I dont really know just wanted to share though since it just came in my mind while watching this...

so here's a thought, remember when he put some spiders in the top of one of the ant colonies so that they wouldn't escape? what if the ones that disappeared decided they wanted the ants over at this colony for a snickity snack? also, maybe what happened with the colony is maybe the queen died, and the colony slowly died off as well, and they just let the ants trickle into the water one by one, without antscanada noticing, until like the last few ants just died in the dirt. like, here's hoping they're just hiding but like, those are some thoughts on what might've happened
