I kinda need a hug, AC Family! She was my secret partner in crime. Hope you guys could also leave a LIKE, COMMENT, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed this week's video. This kinda messed me up this week. Anyone else have a deep emotional attachment to an invertebrate/group of inverts (e.g. ant colony) that nobody would understand? 😭🕷

When Cleaning new world Tarantula enclosures, its better to throw away the substrate, torch for 1-3 seconds all the rocks, logs, and stuff you want to re-use inside its enclosure then wash everything with soap and vinegar. Those Lasiodora hairs are nasty. To remove the hairs stuck on your skinp place school glue (elmer's) on the affected part, let it dry then pull. Sorry for your loss man.

@@AntsCanada whoa you actually replied man! I wasn't expecting lol. Anyways, what I do is I place glue on the itchy parts, let it dry then pull. Putting tape won't do if you've already scratched the area since the barbs are already deep in your skin. That glue treatment should remove most of the hairs and I'd ask the doctor for an antihistamine to alleviate the itchy feeling. Hope it helps!

Sorry for nagging. But I also wonder if the ammonia of the beetles is at average, too much ammonia could kill a baby scarab. Also,it would be better to check if the beetles have proper space, if they don't have enough space entering or during the cocoon stage, their wings may become deformed. Feral ants could post a threat to beetles, sincethey can breakin plastic containers. The last suggestion is from personal experience sadly.

And yet soooo many people kill ants constantly. Even ants native to the area!!! Now I can understand trying to kill off fire ant colonies, here in my state we have waaaaaaay to many giant colonies of fire ants which are invasive (pretty sure invasive to most of the world) but I hate when people kill colonies of normal black or sugar ants.... It's one thing to kill a few hundred that got into your house but it's a another thing to go as far as to kill the colony. I won't lie, in this state recently with rain we've gotten tons of ants in the house hiding from the rain..... But the other day they swarmed a lot of rice we had forgotten to put up the night before, we quickly killed them because it was a problem (we ended up just throwing away the pot).

TLDR: I own three axolotls. From what you showed that tank for the axolotl is still not ideal. You need a strong filter to deal with their waste and no water flow in the tank, they do NOT tolerate currents. *Having all that decor and no water flow just means all the waste they make (and they make a LOT) is going to settle in the nooks and crannies and just make it all disgusting, as their poop comes out fine and in clumps that when disturbed explodes into a fine poop sandstorm that is sticky and gets EVERYWHERE.* It's why they recommend a big set up, that has a bare bottom or sandy bottom, a bit of driftwood, and a pot or something for them to hide in. Going all fancy is not needed and can be more harmful to them. They will also shred and eat them live plants, and that's not good for their bellies. ----- Full post: As an owner of three of them... you best be mindful of that axolotl, that new set up looks a little hazardous for it. A normal set up for an axolotl is a bare bottom, or SAND substrate bottom, a bit of driftwood or long branch and a pot or something for them to hide in. This is to maximize space and make their weekly water changes that much easier. You can NOT house them and think you can make the tank self-cleaning like your other setups. My 30 gal tank for my one uses a filter designed for an 80 gal tank and I still need to do weekly water changes and run a brush along the driftwood in the set up to clean off all the poop that sticks to it and has settled into nooks. Some of the rock formations also look to have some sharper or rougher edges... not good. Remember they feed by sucking in and gulping down water, so anything that is free floating or is about the size of their heads like grass, plants, rocks and such can also get sucked in and cause impaction that can lead to death. i.imgur.com/k8lGrnb.jpg That image is a good example of a 'fancy' kind of set up for a single axolotl. Notice all the decor is BIG, with SMOOTH edges, and a sand substrate, while this set up does include live plants you can see it is kept very minimal, and still may be a bit much. Remember they can and will tear up live plants, fake ones are better recommended. This is as 'fancy' as I would dare get with them and still gives it plenty of open space and hiding spots. Also with how much waste they make, and how sticky it can be having all that decor you showed in that set up is very bad and will make the set up even dirtier as you'll have to take it all out and scrub it down least once a week. Remember their poop is very fine but also comes out in clumps that you so much look at it wrong and it EXPLODES into a fine poop sandstorm, getting over -everything- and can easily cloud up a smaller setup with ONE pooping. The waste is why they recommend as big a set up as you can. Plus you need a heavy duty filter and still keep the water flow to zero in the tank. They do not tolerate flowing water at all. *Having all that decor and no water flow just means all that poop is going to settle in the nooks and crannies and just make it all very disgusting.* kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6KUmqOoYrGfnpY axolotl pooping, just look how fine it is, and the clumps that come out, look how dirty it gets from a single bowl movement. Speaking of the size of the setup, adding in all that stuff takes away from the living space, just like with the tank before, that was 10 gallons, but most of it was taken up by rocks and such, making it more about 6--8 gallons of space, axolotls need that SPACE to move about. They do not like being crowded. Give them a hiding space, but don't clutter it up, it just removes vital living space. Going all super fancy is not needed and can be harmful to them. They are delicate animals. If you are not already using sand for the bottom than I would advise changing it ASAP. Fine sand can pass through them without risk of impaction where as other substrates with how they root around can end up being eaten and further cause impaction. Plus I really hope you have a system in place to help monitor and control the water temperature, as even the fluctuation of a few degrees can lead to stress.

I agree with most of your writing. But please don’t use driftwood or other wood. Some people doing research on axolotl learned that in tanks there are some mikro organisms housing on wood and that they are extremly harmfull for axolotls. Sorry, I don‘t know the english word for them. But wood is not recommended anymore.also it increases the amount of fungus (?) infections.please remove it. Another possibility for substrate is rounded gravel, not more than 5mm, sometimes it’s better to clean. But sand is ok too. Keeping just one is a little bit sad too, it seems they enjoy company. Best is one male and two females. Males sometimes fight each other. Just girls sometimes have problems with egg laying without a male. Don’t worry having baby axolotls, if you just leave the eggs in the tank, their parents eat them. Only put axolotl of nearly the same size together, otherwise they can eat or hurt each other. AntsCanada, it‘s your duty to do proper research on all of your pets! It seems that now you just think of new fancy and cool setups, not what is best for your pets.e.g. the crayfish that jumped out of the water panicking.. I also feel sad for the african grey. I know there are still many people keeping them alone, but they are very social and no human can give them the same company. They often get ill, pulling feathers, start biting.. In my country it’s now against the law to keep any parrot without partner. It’s even worse for them growing up alone, your baby girl can receive severe issues. Two african grey get just as a strong bonding with their human friend as one lonely bird. Imagine living your whole live by yourself, only with a bird.. it’s the same for your beloved little grey friend and that is really cruel. It doesn‘t matter, that there are still many (ignorant) people, isolating this extreme intelligent and social creatures.you can do better. For all your pets.
