While it’s possible for someone to study and understand Marxist philosophy, that doesn’t make them a Marxist unless they actively advocate for or implement policies aligned with it. In this case, his focus has been on neutrality and pragmatism-making decisions based on what benefits the country economically, environmentally, and socially, rather than subscribing to a Marxist or capitalist doctrine. His message has always been about finding the best solutions for Sri Lanka’s growth and prosperity, not pushing a particular ideology.

Even though his party has a marxist background , AKD isnt a marxist entirely. He has relocated himself as center right candidate rather than a marxiest. The problem is not whether he is pro-India or pro-China but, how foreign affairs might affect our economy, social & political atmosphere. As per the president Mr. AKD says, we have to think more about each and every factor before rushing into any type of foreign affairs also should re-negotiate signed/approved/upcoming projects because, if there're unnecessary involvements, that would be additional burdens on our country as a whole. Anura Dissanayake became the President based on the wishes of the Sri Lankan people. We understand that the Indian government is sad that Wickramasinghe or Premadasa were not appointed. Modi must be worried about the loss of several tenders, especially to Adani and Ambani who were corrupt and cunning. Anura Dissanayake was elected because he promised to follow a non-Aligned approach as his foreign policy and the people agreed with that. AKD's policy is not to be pro-China or India and not to do anything that threatens any country
