If you’re referring to the bond scam it certainly did hinder the economy it contributed to the erosion of trust in financial management and raised Sri Lanka’s borrowing costs. However, the reserves crisis was more a result of poor fiscal management, unsustainable borrowing, economic shocks (like COVID-19), and long-term structural weaknesses in the economy rather than the bond scam alone. The scam played a part, but it was one of many factors in a broader crisis. All this resulted in us running out of reserves entirely that led to the devastating crisis.

Now the electricity tariffs and charges are low, but most people can't pay off the overdues. For reconnection. But, the bill being too high is not the case now. That's a lame excuse or mismanagement on their side too. Taxes on goods are high. And the elderly are taxed too. Even private sector who only can work till 55 are taxed on their savings in banks. Which is totally unfair, so the older ones definitely have voted for a change unless they have benefitted during the Rajapakse era

Rubbish. Why is he called "Master debater"; because of failure to communicate??? In any country the leaders actions should be understood by the countrymen and not by foreigners with vested interest. Do you think the people of Peru understood RW's actions? Why would they unless they have wested interest. There's certainly a corrupt faction that was benefitting through MR, GR, MS and RW for whom AKD's victory is a bitter pill to swallow. My commiserations to you. Better think of alternate options.
