Anvil Foundry 120 vs 240 Volts Water Boil Test

I have the 10.5gal/240v Anvil foundry set up, love it. One thing I added was an inline GFI (because I don't want to die). The system heats fast and easily brews a 5 gallon batch. Usually 84% power maintains my kettle boil. That little pump is surprisingly a monster at moving fluid. I agree the lines on the cooling submersible are lousy.Something to upgrade.

A GFCI is a must when brewing on an electric system. All my brewery outlets have GFCI breakers. My anvil pump also does a nice job. I was impressed with the 240v heating time. Very fast. Cheers!

Maybe I can highlight this for you in my next video using this system. It’s fairly straight forward. On my anvil, I snipped the cord near the plug and wired a 220v plug. I think the newer versions come wired for 220. Thanks for the suggestion.

@justhomebrew thanks! My plug is 50amps so I think I need an adapter to 20amps then get an extension, but it's not straight forward since I've never done electrical

Where did you get that adapter? The problem im having is I cant seem to find any 4 prong 30a to 20 adapters.

I bought my adapter from Home Depot: www.homedepot.com/p/AC-WORKS-1-5-ft-30-Amp-4-Prong-14-30P-Dryer-Plug-to-Household-Outlet-with-20-Amp-Breaker-S1430CB520/311382808. I do remember spending quite a bit of time looking for a four prong adapter with a built in fused 20 amp plug. So far, it has worked great. Cheers!

You are effectively doubling the power output of the heating elements. Is the potential for scorching an issue?

I have not seen other brewers having scorching issues with this system yet. I guess I’ll find out during my next brew day.

Hey Petra, I brewed with this Anvil Foundry last weekend and did not see any scorching during the brew. I did find it a little difficult to maintain a consistent temperature. I plan on posting an overview of this brew session next weekend. Cheers!

Just brewed this morning on my 6.5 gallon Foundry. 4 gallons of wart at mash temp (150F) took about 25 minutes to come to a boil

how much did the extension cord materials cost? what length ?

I believe I bought the 30amp to 20 amp 220v adapter for around $40 from Home Depot . The extension cord I made is from 12/3 soow cable and from what I can remember this cable costs about 1-2 bucks a foot. With the other outlet adapters and the nlyon jacket, you’re probably looking at around $100. For me, this approach was more flexible than putting a dedicated 20 amp220 breaker just for the foundry.
