Gladiator is an underated ship. Its the only true fighter bomber in the game. Hoplite is too big and Shrike has P shooters. It the closest translation to a WWII dive bomber in space. Love this ship, but wish CIG should show it more love. It needs a configurable turret where you could swap out manned turret for a blade controlled 4 size 2, or a jammer component in place of the turret (think Growler), or even a 2 scu cargo area with an under belly loader.

Great video as always! I would love to see a loadout/buyers guide on the Vanguard series. I know you did these a while ago but not on the Sentinel and with fixed weapons being viable now, I would love to see what loadout you recommend. That being said: Esperia Glaive would be great too. I know weapons cant be swapped but the rest can. But even if you dont do vids on these ships I will come back for whatever video you do!

I love this ship. Reminds me of the Douglas SBD Dauntless Bomber from BF 1942 making torp runs with my old gunner buddies. That range though.. Haven't heard anything having that range.

This seems more like a PvE build as in pvp it’s typically best to go with industrial shields when it comes to size 1 to soak up the oncoming alpha dmg from your opponent. Tarantulas dont have they best projectile speed either, which is going to hurt your chance to land a hit.

Idea on missiles: Make them avoidable by small craft with focused player skill, so instead of being a source of reliable kills; they are a source of reliable cover fire. Against larger ships, they help level the playing field a little, or for dedicated missile boats a lot. You could make them slower, with a wider turn radius and possibly even destructible with weapons fire. Of course if you do that, you would need to re-balance counter measures. I speak against my own self interest. I do not practice my dog-fighting skills and will be flying missile heavy ships to compensate for my lack of proficiency when dog-fighting is forced upon me. I think, however, it would make for a better more entertaining game.

Ship balance. If a Vanguard came with 4x S5 guns or something insane basically it would be the only ship everyone used. The Gladiator also can't get hit, much like the hurricane.

Meh, 4 s5 isn't scary at all. Also if you want super stealth, just take off your shield and weapons. If you can't kill it with the torps, run. Also Gladius stock takes 2 s5 to take out.

Especially in a stealth built your guns dont really matter. If youre detected in the gladiator with those shields youre dead against pretty much any ship when using guns. In fact I would go so far as to just dont equip any shields. Reduces your signature from the get go and especially the IR signature can take literal hours to reach its minimum. The Missiles you want are the Dominator IIs on the wings and the Reaper V or Scimitar torps. All of which are EM tracking which doesnt matter since chaffs still dont work. The Reaper Vs and Dominators are both the highest damaging missiles in their class and most importantly they are the fastest. With 1475 m/s on the Dominators there isnt a ship that can outrun those. The Reaper Vs can be outrun with I think 1155 M7s but its the fastest size 5 there is. The scimitar as said purely for the short lock on. Any Pilot who hears a lock on and cant see a ship will expect an eclipse and bail as fast as possible. Thats why the speed of the missiles is so important.

Assuming you have the initiative, how capable would you say the Gladiator is at taking out a standard Freelancer? Asking for a friend...

@@brandonporter6223 equally skilled pilots the lancer wins. Especially if both are clicking missiles. The Size 5 missiles can screw you over if you try to lock on close range and it takes forever for the size 5s and you cant fire your size 2s. The freelancer doesnt have that problem to that degree and can switch to all size 3 or size 2. If you get the jump on the lancer the gladiator should be able to missile it to death. Depends on what shields the lancer is using and if the lancer pilot can manage to spread the missile damage to multiple shield quadrants. In a straight up dogfight where both want fun and nobody is clicking missiles the gladiator should lose due to a lack of maneuverability and firepower. But its not a dogfighter. In general I would not recommend purchasing the Gladiator or even using it when you get it in addition to the tally. If you want missile gameplay get the lancer MIS for the same money (if available as warbond upgrade for 165) and for torps either tally or eclipse. The galdiator is neither here nor there. But if the concept of the gladiator is something you like I think the vanguard harbinger does it much better though much more expensive.

@@TheDude50447 Thanks for the reply! I do have one more question, however. Since the gladiator might not be able to beat the freelancer by itself, do you think the Gladiator might still be worth it If you were playing a more supportive role? Say, instead of taking it out to fight Lancers or various fighters one-on-one, you take it to fight Catapillars that have a couple buccaneers to support it, but you have 2 Gladius' with you? I'm just trying to figure out if this ship is actually capable of hitting well above its weight class, and can bring some extra strength to a small escort element of just a few light fighters (Escorting a Hull C for example), even if it's just in the context of targeting the larger ships in the Attacking element, such as a Catapillar or Corsair/Connie, maybe even just enough damage to knock the wind out of the raid and send them packing. Although the Vanguard Harbinger is much more effective than the gladiator in its role, I would hope that the Gladiator could bring at least some of that punch to bare at a lower cost (thinking in terms of in-game currency and operational costs, etc). I understand with the Physical Armor not being implemented yet, and Signed Distance Shield Tech not implemented yet either, that combat effectiveness/performance of a lot of vehicles will change to some degree in the future (as well as any additional balancing throughout development), I am curious though how the gladiator can perform currently in this way as it stands in 3.10.2. I appreciate that this is a hypothetical question and you may not have been in this kind of situation in the current version of the game, but I don't really play much SC atm (hardware restrictions) and you seem to be experienced with the gladiator, so I thought I'd just get your opinion. @@brandonporter6223 I am not really experienced with the Gladiator. I know how it flies and what weapon hardpoints it got but I know that on most ships :D Its a missile/torp hybrid and really a one trick pony in that regard. A potential gunner is way better off in just bringing an additional mustang to the fight than sitting in the turret even with the buffs. The gladiator is as effective as the missiles are in the patch youre flying it. The mixed missile/torp armament makes it ill suited for taking on light fighters which can escape the torps and it doesnt bring enough firepower to really endanger ships like the connie or even a caterpillar. As a support ship it can work in giving missile support but I would again point to the similarly priced Freelancer MIS which brings much more firepower to the table as well as a turret (though 1 size smaller weapons). And in terms of fun the again similarly priced sabre is a much better choice. The Gladiator is a really odd concept designed as a mixture of going in, dropping off your missiles, then run and slugging it out to a degree with other ships. It almost seems like an anti bomber to me, designed to take on ships like the retaliator. Good enough firepower with a gunner and the missiles to damage it and while it might not destroy it it will probably make it retreat. Its an odd ship and i think there are other ships better suited as support craft atm. And the anti tally role is best filled with an eclpse atm.

You know, it just occurred to me that when referencing the cooling rate of Coolers, it would be far more intuitive to annotate with 260k /s Rather than 260 k/s Most people automatically read 260k as 260,000. Perhaps this all boils down to a misplaced character space.

One minor problem with different ranges on missiles. Your shortest ranged missiles set your max lock range for all missiles till the shortest range are gone or turned off.

Amazing work as Always SubliminaL. Though I feel like I'd probably get something like a Eclipse. Its just got more style. Eventhough its more of a cowards way to fight anyone. But hey, Cowards do win. Btw, does anyone know if the Esperia Prowler is bugged? I recently got one and the handling of the ship is complete whack. Whenever I try to slow the ship down it turns towards the right and it flies like a drunk bumblebee in atmosphere. Anyone got the same issues with this?

I would have to assume that the end goal is that an Eclipse is just too damn expensive to operate for simply popping a few small ships and that's where the Gladiator comes in. Still, the ship does seem a bit confused; a manned turret despite it's squishy-ness and a lack of dedicated stealth features to avoid such confrontations.

No the sun is 5,000 degrees kelvin. It's just a video game so the number doesn't matter. Kilo is not a unit of measurement it is a detonator for 1,000 one could say the sun is 5kilo kelvin.

Hey my favorite ship in the game. I use it as a brawler myself since the thing is damn tanky even stock. Throw in the torps, missiles along with the fixed size 3 and it rips apart most ships. My group actually uses mine to take out Hammerheads once we take out the shields on one side.

It USED to be tanky, CIG nerfed its agility in 3.6 and had its HP nerfed by more then 1000 HP around 3.8.

The Gladiator got a bug, where you can lose one of your torpede racks, and its a realy swishy plain. i prefer the ecplise or ghost for stealth

"Damn dirty missile throwing apes" is a perfect way to describe the game right now (3.10) I don't even bother with PvP anymore because missiles are incredibly broken OP. So you either use them yourself, or be killed by someone who is. Once again, great ship guide

Gladiator has proved one thing... size 5 torps are fucking useless. Too sluggish to hit anything it deals meaningfull damage to and too little damage to even dent medium ships.. Also why is there a size 9 torp that goes 968 m/s and a size 7 torp that goes 1000 m/s while all the size 5s go 750?

Got a glad and will have to test it soon. For me I'm lucky if missiles lock or even leave the racks on some ships. Not sure if some of my ships are bugged or maybe just the missile load outs.
