Damn dude, exactly what I needed to see! I was going in a completely different direction, going to make a slightly complicated screw turned thingamajig; reminiscent of a holdfast for a miter saw. This is brilliant simplicity! Sometimes it helps to get out of your own head, and into someone else's. Lol Thank you, kindly!

Great holding power. I assume you used mild steel?

I use a german pattern anvil which has the hardy hole on the rounded bick end and the pritchel hole on the flat bick end. Occasionally, I find a need to use a hold fast in the hardy hole end instead of or in addition to using a holdfast in the pritchel hole. This anvil has a 1" hardy hole and the easy solution I use is to drop a piece of 3/4" black iron pipe, the kind we use in the U.S. to run natural gas in, into the hardy hole. It is cut to a length such that it is flush with the top of the anvil while the bottom rests on my anvil stump. I can drop a 5/8" holdfast in and it locks down great.

That's a really good idea, too! Thanks for sharing!

That looks like it works really well. The one I made didn't do as well. After seeing yours I think the angle on mine is a little too wide. Thanks for posting this.
