September 2021 marks ten years of Anvil Industry trading! As part of their celebrations, the Digital Forge pack this month features a ton of characters where their sculptors have had a chance to go wild and have some fun. Some are tweaks on already existing resin kits available, and some are unique to the Digital Forge as STLs. One of the STLs available this month (and eventually through the website!) is this variant on the pin-up jungle commissar, which you can see here: www.anvilindustry.co.uk/jungl...
The complete post for the 10th Anniversary Celebration pack can be seen here, and is a total steal for $9USD! / everything-you-55572434

Those DPM Trousers look great. The way you've painted his face and exposed skin makes him look properly Australian; like Michael Preston in Mad Max 2.

Something most people don't know, is that after every 150 yards of produced material, the camo pattern repeats itself, so you'll find the same pattern on different parts of a uniform, but you'd need to spend a LONG time (I speak from painful experience of having to prove this to a serving soldier ((Sniper, of all people)) many years ago) studying pictures of both jacket and trousers made from DPM cloth to see where the pattern actually repeats. I found the same pattern repeated inverted on the pocket of a pair of new trousers and on a faded jacket blouse front on the same soldier in a photo. NOT a good idea for the faint hearted or short of patience, but I had to prove my point at the time, and was damned if I'd give up before being proved right :-D I also showed my local IPMS club figure painters, but believe me, it's easier just to go with the flow when painting camo, as at that scale, it just doesn't matter, and you'd need amazing eyesight to paint repeating patterns so small :-D I know, I tried once, and once was more than enough for me. I LOVE the camo pattern you did on this mini, and will have a go at it myself, once I've finished painting the "lizard" pattern on the 1950's/60's French Foreign legionaires that someone has asked me to paint for them. PLEASE do more videos like this, as they are truly inspiring, and I love learning new techniques :-)
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
Go figure! That's something I quite honestly didn't know. I suppose it makes perfect sense, given the scales at which DPM cloth would be manufactured, and then once you start throwing the cut and sewing of different material to create the clothing itself, you're scarcely expected to be able to see those repetitions. ...and yet!
@MrCrystalwarrior1

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I only found out about it repeating the pattern every 150 yards when I worked at a specialist manufacturer's that produced different camo cloth for the NATO Alliance forces. After that, I started studying photo's of uniforms to see if I could spot the different ways the pattern was cut and stitched into the uniform, and later moved to work at a model shop as a figure painter. That's where the sniper found me, poring over a photo of a soldier wearing the faded blouse and newly made trousers I mentioned earlier. I had a lot better eyesight in those days, and a lot of time on my hands working on a Tuesday (When, for some reason, the shop was pretty much empty all day long) and weekends, and so got access to all the model magazines for free, so "studied" as much as I could, and then went on to paint 1/35 & 1/48 scale military figures for customers, then went slightly insane and started doing the same on Games Workshop Imperial Guard Cadians and Catachans (Apparently Catachan is pronounced Cat-a-kan, according to Games Workshop at the time - 1990's), but now I just do like you did in your video, and went with how I feel, and life/painting has been so much easier since, and I get my figures painted so much quicker, too :-D

VERY intriguing miniature, the camo is awesome, my only complaint is about the pose, with the rifle at easy and pointing it could've be more spectacular

Very nice! It may just be the lighting, but I feel like the camo ended up looking more like Vietnam-era tigerstripe than DPM - though honestly I think the effect might be even better for that!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
Could be the lighting - it's a fraction better looking in reality, though if I were to highlight some of the green and beige colours again, that'd likely change up the look quite a bit and look a little more accurate.
