Good stuff. Maybe some threaded rod from the bottom thru a board on top to anchor it. I like the idea.

Hmmm. If I put one board about 1/2way down and had the rods with washers on its bottom so that its tied down to half the dirt plus another board immediatelyunder the anvil, , that will probably work great. Thank you very much.

It is actually very efficient. It transfers the strikes right into the ground. The energy goes into the steel like it should. No bouncing at all.

Good idea, did you somehow compact the sand? And that anvil is awesome, much nice then the ones we have here in Europe.

I used a sledge hammer and tamped the soil every 50mm as I filled up the drum. It's very solid. Thanks for coming by and commenting. John.
