We present a British Army Cold War Loadout, suitable for use in Falkland's / Operation Corporate or 1980s Cold War airsoft events. This would be suitable for playing the part of a British Infantry soldier during the late 1970s and into the 1980s.
All our load outs are intended for themed airsoft games only and are not suitable for living history or re-enactment. They are not impressions.
We consider boots, eye-pro, face pro, ear pro and gloves PPE. The player should use what is best for their needs in these cases. That may or not mean period correct.

Amazing to have so many people watching this episode. Just a polite Reminder! We are an airsoft channel. This is not a living history or re-enactment channel. The loadouts we do are designed for airsoft skirmishing. Nor is this intended to be a definitive guide to the British Army in the 1980s. There will be compromises based on that. Please have that in your mind when you comment.

Speaking from the Argentine side, it seems that both sides had used similar equipment, especially weapons, from the standard issue FAL, the FN Mag & the M16 (used by our special forces). Instead of the Sterling SMG our soldiers used the american M3 grease gun (locally known as the PAM-2) & the ML-63 "Halcón" or "Hawk" (a local manufactured SMG) Also instead of the Mk 5 helmet, we used the american m1. I never played airsoft but it is something I'd love to do at least once in my life. And also enjoyed watching this video, so good job and cheers mate.

I joined in 88, so at the tail end of the old/new equipment. I served 3 different times. 1st: 1988 jnr Ldrs RA. ruptured Achilles tendon so either backsquad or rejoin at 17.5yrs. SLR rifle. 1990 to 93 as a Regular in RCT Maritime. SLR & SA80 L1A1. So we had the largest 1157 kit list. As we had the full Army and Royal Navy kit lists (except certain Naval items, we wouldn't wear in the Army. e.g the Navy Caps, or Sailors best uniform for Ratings and Petty officer/officer uniform. As we wore No 2 dress like the rest of the Army). 2002 to 2004 as T.A in SAS Signals Sqn. Broke my back doing charity parachute jump on a weekend off from pre selection course in March 03. Came off June 03 selection, still not knowing my back was broke. Very long joking story. We were issued with the Combat 95 issue 1157 (partial list, as T.A). SA80 New L2A2 as was back then.

58 webbing was incredibly tough and durable- it also soaked up water like a sponge! Broke a few finger nails trying to close the tabs on bum rolls when wet and I was trying to pack away by NBC suit aka 'Field Pyjama's!' lol L1A1 SLR was a superb piece of kit- loved it. Used it for the first 3 years in the reserves before switching to the SA80 pop gun. I served 19 years and loved it. I'd still select an SLR as a wpn if it was necessary to go to fight- all it needs is a Trilux sight.

I joined the Royal Hampshires as a Junior Leader in 1982. My platoon sergeant was Sgt Clowse from the Staffords. We were issued with the DMS boot, KF shirt etc which had to be worn as per the manual. Once in the battalion webbing could be worn however you wanted, large packs were swapped for privately bought bergens, clothes could be tailored etc. As long as you had the kit required and you got the job done.

I thought it was only me that did the "entitled beret" thing!! I'd just couldnt wear one I hadn't earned. One other thing that annoyed me no end was that when you wore the large pack, the bastard hook would be just where your rifle was shouldered. In the end, I added extra water bottle pouches t omy kit, dropped the kidney pouches and used my own bergen. Great video, taking me right back!
@FortyCouple
@FortyCouple 3 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you about the entitled beret. I find it amazing how many 'Sergeant RM' turn up at events. Rank is simply not relevant / inappropriate, and there are so many headdress options that a decent loadout look can be achieved without upsetting the actual veterans you're emulating.

I’m looking forward to the future vids showing how the British kit evolved, it really has changed massively a number of times over the last 40 years and especially the “pimped” ‘58 pattern belt kit video. The two hallmarks of an infantry soldier in the late 80s, demonstrating his commitment, keenness and allyness were how he shaped his beret and the quality and standard of his personalised belt kit. Keep up the good work guys 👍😎👊

I'd be careful with full NBC kit if you're doing cosplay indoors at conventions and not used to wearing it all, its *very* easy to overheat. Personally, i used to hate wearing the stuff and think you're mad to choose to wear NBC kit and ressie lol! What i would suggest if its justfor cosplay is to cut the activated charcoal lining out of the suit and remove the valves from the PSM and exhale valve on the S10 so you get better air flow, can breathe eaiser and people can hear what you're saying.

@@gadgeharvey5544 I live in Norway, so it's fairly cold here, and I'm used to wearing somewhat hot stuff. But I think I'd prefer wearing a gutted filter or something, the one I DO have is pretty old and completely spent, so when I wore it to a convention I had to keep taking it off every 10-15 minutes to get good air. I might ommit it entirely if I can't get something for that.

Takes me back to the early 90s and serving in the Royal Engineers. The itchy shirts KF ,was so glad to wear the Norwegian Army Shirt . The high leg boot was brilliant and loved the SLR rifle . Wasn't hsppy when they replaced them with the SA 80 A1. What a crap move that was by the Army .

That took me back, omg. The kf shirt was better to iron and the shirt after that kept on going threadbare on the collar and wrinkled easily. Remember both helmets and in the gulf war 1990-91 I sowed some elastic on for a chin strap, the things we did just to make this gear work better, in it's own way it was a unique time in military history. Good video 👍

I remember the original o-11 combat boots were different to yours, I was 1st issued them at Peninsular Barracks in 85, yours are one of the later pattern ones - the 1st ones were easily identifiable by having a proper heal piece the same shape as the DMS boots instead of the thin strip running down to the back - danner boots were popular in my unit as were sas or kit carry smocks, and tropical trousers and I still have them 35 years on - btw respirator pouch position depended on if you were left or right handed -

Mate, loved that, I don't really bother with airsoft vids, but this brought back a lot of memories, I also had my WO2 head on to pick up dress infractions...... and you aced it. I was poised to point out the GS shirt wasn't right for Falklands, but you covered it I would say though that the KF shirt was far better for ironing than the GS shirt, not for ease, but becuase onceyou ironed the fecker you didn't have to iron it again all week even if you rolled it up and chucked it in the corner I liked that you picked up the different boots, but the BCH you showed was the mk 2, which was the most common one I admit, but I had the mk 1 which i actually prefered, the main difference was the heel was more like the DMS and didn't have that thin strip of leather which made bulling heels easier One last thing and this might me a unit SOP thing, but the section MG Iknew was normally the L4A1 LMG not the L7A1..... but that may of just been my unit. From a personal note, I was a bit of a fashionista, my load out was all waterbottle carriers including 2 patt 44 and I cut off the straps on my helmet coause it was cool, I still used the same cover all the way till I was forced to swap to MTP, and even then, I stuck it over my old one

Hey thanks for watching. The L7 vs L4 was more about availability for airsoft. There are some custom converted M240s about but no one makes a Bren/L7 which is a massive shame and much requested. I’m actually sitting with the unit tailor (my partner) right now stitching a set of 58 waterbottle carriers together :)

The Norwegian shirts are honestly a must have piece of clothing even when not using it for airsoft or reenactment. you can buy them cheap from Norwegian, Dutch or British surplus stock and they work great for colder days. You can of course also go the more collectible route like I did and buy the Irish army version, there is a big premium on Irish DPM, but it looks amazing.

I'v got some basic early issue M81 fatigues and some jungle fatigues but i'll have to lose a bit of weight before i can fit in them again. As tom says the issue is the rest of the kit to make it a worthwhile video/loadout. I've some scraps of alice gear but its really a case of 'if i find the stuff cheap or its donated to AATV we can do it' as its not something i'd buy for personal use. I tend to collect soviet/russian kit and british kit and a little bit of vietnam era US kit. I used to have a lot more diverse loadouts when my job was writing militaria articles but a lot of it has since been sold as i had an attic full of uniforms i just didnt need.
