I knew an old British para called Don who lived in Paignton 15 years ago. He was a working class man but one of nature's true gentlemen - soft spoken, dressed impeccably, always tipped. He was one of the first 100 British paratroop volunteers, but never dropped operationally. This was because in 1940 the RAF wanted to know if it was practicable to parachute into the sea with the Mae West life jacket already inflated. Don was the volunteer selected to test this. The impact drove the Mae West upwards with great force, damaged his neck seriously and knocked him unconscious. He was too badly injured to jump again, but his experience may have saved a lot of aircrew lives.

Wow thanks for letting us know Don’s story.

@@AnvilAirsoftTV His story would probably have died with me, if I hadn't got it out somewhere. Thanks for providing the opportunity. As a result of your positive feedback, I will now put it upon other Para-related websites. Don died about 10 years ago but his courtesy and personal standards have left their mark on me, at least.

@@gadgeharvey5544 in my opinion they are better than the “regular” issued smocks, because of the elastic cuffs and the lack of a hood. Which in the army, we we never used. But each to their own. @@jockin_around8314 i used to use the SAS windproof with the hood rolled up. The para smock is nice but its a lot heavier than the sas smock. I only got a para smock years after actually needing one for exercises so cant really compare the two fairly. The issue smock was pants, thats for sure :)

@@gadgeharvey5544 all depends on what your looking for, up here in Scotland it can get quite cold so a heavier smock is bob on. Ive seen many great comments about the sas smock, definitely something to look into. Anyway another great loadout! Its great seeing older kits being put together.

I have read several accounts were the sten bandoleer is being used. Fun fact in the airborne museum Hartenstein there is a p37 ammo pouch in its collection and to both sides a single , cutoff pouch of a sten bandoleer is sewn. Several German made photographs, during the Arnhem battle, show them being worn by German soldiers who have armed themselves with MKV stenguns. One photograph that surfaced a few years ago shows a killed British airborne soldier wearing such a bandoleer. My point is these were probably not that rare at all just not being shown that much in period photographs.

2 question, great video🫡 smock is from sof? I love the colors, and 2nd question, the ammo pouches, are they mark 2 or mark 3? Mark 2 fits only 2 bren magazines and mark 3 fits 3, if the soldier had the mark 2, would it automatically be replaces with the MKIII? So it will be allowed to carry 3 bren mags?
@AnvilAirsoftTV5 ай бұрын
Smock is not SOF, it's from a company called 'Military Tours' a few years before SOF did them. I honestly have no idea what pattern of pouch they are I've not looked at the markings for 20 years. Standard was to carry two bren mags in one pouch and your own ammunition in the other. If people carried more it was usually in the ancillary bren pouches worn above the normal ones. Gadge.
