Yes, it may be retcon but in psychology there is what we called secondary or rogue emotions which includes anxious, embarrassment, etc. So Inside out 2 is all about struggling to control secondary emotions and how they dominate during puberty. Very relatable irl

I was going to say, because the emotions literally mention the new emotions in the first movie. Disgust says how she envies the dead rat, and Riley says how she is embarrassed, so I think this is accurate.
