You're NOT ALONE! I've been hearing from so many of you here and by email, that this is an experience you have sometimes too - anxiety with the throat gripping/pain. Some of you have shared that you've been wondering if you're defective or if this means there's something wrong with you. NO, there isn't. In fact, I think these painful experiences are everything that's RIGHT with us: pointing us home to ourselves, to our untended wounds, to our authentic selves, to our conscious sovereignty and ultimately, to freedom. I promise to continue sharing stories like this and what I learn about myself, the human body, the human condition, trauma and pain. Please keep sharing back - we will heal faster and more fully by doing this TOGETHER. Thank you for being part of my community! I LOVE YOU! 💛🧡💙

You're definitely not alone! After sharing this video I got a lot of comments and messages that other people experience this same thing. Physiologically it makes sense to me for those of us that sometimes (or chronically) experience anxiety, because anxiety triggers the muscles around our throat, chest and gut to tighten and protect us from threats to our survival. In my own life, I've had to look into why I'm so anxious, and for me personally it comes down to childhood traumas that I haven't fully integrated yet. What works really well for me is to work with my body to reduce the tightness and physical symptoms of anxiety (like what I'm showing in this video, and others here on the channel), while doing whatever emotional healing work I need to do as well. I'm sorry you're having this experience! I know how uncomfortable and scary it can feel. You can move through this and heal 💛

I've suffered with throat tension on and off for a while. I went to the ER in April of 2020 because my throat felt so tight I didn't know what was happening. I was put on anxiety medication, acid reflux medication, I've even had an ENT do a scope up my nose and down my throat to ensure nothing was wrong. Which they say I'm fine. But I still get these days where it happens and it takes control of me. And I want to do nothing but isolate myself in my room. Anytime I get this feeling my mind replays that day I went to the ER. @KnittingBunny Жыл бұрын
@@howuluvthat1 I'm so sorry you are experiencing this too 😣 I will say that it's been coming and going over several months. But it was the worst when I was dehydrated and malnourished. It's very much related to my anxiety, even if I don't necessarily feel anxious, it's like my body tenses up in certain places and the throat has been one of those spots for me. I think it also ebbs and flows with my menstrual cycle hormones and how well I'm taking care and paying attention to my body's needs. It feels like when you focus on breathing too hard and you kind of forget to involuntarily breathe, I second guess myself and feel like the food will go into my lungs sometimes. I notice when I'm eating something that tastes AMAZING or in a situation that I don't have the opportunity to focus on that (with distractions and less anxiety like hanging out with friends) I can swallow just fine. I constantly tell myself I CAN swallow and I just need to keep going. I drink A LOT of water now (maybe I needed to exercise those throat muscles more) and I eat almost 2 meals plus a nutrition like drink everyday. I'm also not shaming myself anymore for what I choose to eat, if I eat something, that's a win for me. I've also started taking walks and trying to be more present, breathing deeper, journaling, making art, watching cooking shows.. It's all super personal and what is kind of working for me, may not for another. If you are able to, go to the doctor and/or therapist, I do advise that, it may even give you peace of mind. I wish you the best of luck and health, friend ❤️ you can do this! 💪💪

Hi Sandra. Yes, it can definitely feel scary. One thing I have taught myself (and now teach others) is that scary sensations stop feeling scary when we get to know our bodies well - how they function, why pain, tension and anxiety happen etc. I used to be so afraid of all my pain, anxiety and tension. Facing this fear and getting to know myself was the best decision I've ever made, and is the reason I do what I do and share online. Wishing you more peace and less fear 💛

Hi Brittany - sorry you're experiencing this too! This is such a vulnerable area, the throat. When we can't swallow, it's so triggering to our nervous systems. While the technique in this video can be super helpful to ease the tension, it still doesn't address the root cause (which can be different for all of us). Sometimes it's purely anxiety driven. Other times it can be from breathing in toxic air, or using the neck muscles too much (looking down at phones or using the neck muscles to breathe instead of the diaphragm). It's always easiest to search for the root cause when you're NOT in the middle of an anxiety attack, so I figured I'd nudge you in that direction based on your comment. Either way, I'm wishing you more ease and peace of mind (and body)!

I feel exactly as you and others in this chat! I have often feeling that I am alone on the planet. I live in Czech republic, Central Europe, and when I mention word "anxiety", people face as if it was something wrong, people do not want to talk about fears in my country. It seems to me that so many people do not feel their body at all, or do not want to feel him. When I relax, or practice thai-chi or meditate, when I try to concentrate on breathing, my anxiety grows. I also tried meditations on fifth chakra etc., but nothing works. Half year ago I made massage course and for the first time I had massage on myself, and it was WOW! ANd I found out that I can do auto-massaging of myself - my throat, chest, neck. And stretching exercises of muscles. And I think it is going to work. I was thinking, when I was having my worst anxiety attacks, that I am coming crazy. I feel as if I was on psychedelics, when I have anxiety, and plus the idea that anxiety is craziness = real hell. But thank to you , Elisha, and others, and my psychoterapists, I have starting to believe that I am beautiful sensitive person and my way in life is learning how live with my sensitivity and emotions, instead of erasing them, not feeling them. Thank you and I am looking forward your other videos. Hana

I have been experiencing this for MONTHS now. It’ll come and go but most is present. It intensifies and will actually cause throbbing in my head. Ultrasound on my thyroid and arteries are clear, praise God! So it must be tension and anxiety. I have three boys and a baby girl that I am raising and these boys, whom I adore, are wild so I find myself at a loss for words and full of tension when parenting them. I want to work through it and succeed in raising awesome humans so I WILL get through this by God’s mercy and grace. This video has given me HOPE and just knowing that I am not alone is a huge blessing. Looking forward to diving into more of your videos! THANK YOU!

Omg I’m in tears right now. I’ve been struggling trying to explain this to my doctors and they never seem to understand what I’m talking about. They just say it’s anxiety and give me pills. It’s a tight grip in the trachea area that goes into my chest and it increases my pulse. I’ve been terrified think I don’t have much longer here because no doctor gets me. I had half of my thyroid removed and levels are normal yet, the tightness in the trachea affects my breathing and it goes into my chest. Affects me more when I’m in a panic. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Chris. I was literally (probably as you were typing this comment) just thinking about "the animal" inside of us all this morning. And how it is "the animals" (and plants, etc) of this world that have to bear the pain of how humanity treats itself and this planet. They have no choice, yet they keep striving for life, for health, for a place in this world. There's so much for us to take responsibility for, but it has to start here - inside our very own animal bodies. I so appreciate your comment and your reflections, and I LOVE hugs - so I'll take it 🤗

I def have anxiety and I started feeling this a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was neck tension from working out (it is possible) but I also realized I started feeling this around the same time I found out I got a new manager at work. I was def stressed out about that so maybe that is driving this feeling too

I am a carer and do live in care with dementia patients and I feel like I'm going to die from stress. You are never prepared for what the day has in store. I thought my throat tension was from all the smoking I do to get through a day but it struck me that it's caused by being attacked by my clients. I thought I was on my way to getting throat cancer because I can't stop smoking its the only habit that gets me through a day in care work. Thank you for video as nothing was working for me including herbal teas, raw ginger, not smoking, and massage whilst yawning.... I am now going to try the breathing in slowly.

It's funny because I have been having this feeling at random now. And it feels like a spasm in my lower throat, I also can feel the sensation when I breathe in through my mouth. It a feeling like I want to get spasms but I don't physically get them. I also do get that tightening feeling. I thought it was my chest, but now feel like it's all my throat. This sensation gives me terrible waves of anxiety and it overtakes me sometimes, I guess because I really don't know what it is.

I've had this for maybe 3 years now, i finally found something that works in reducing it. I quit eating all forms of food with some form of added sugar. By added i mean, added artificially. Food with naturally occurring sugar is still fine, like fruit. These attacks still occur at the same rate however. The main issue being when they're occurring, my brain feels shifted into another mode, as if i lose control over my thoughts. After this diet change, somehow it has become enormously easier to get control over my thoughts again, and when i do. The sensation in my throat goes away.

I'm going to try this! I've dealt with anxiety since I was very young and recently I've been dealing with multiple throat issues and medicine doesn't seem to work for whatever reason, it's cause me to deal with nerves in my throat and it's right on the Adam's apple and it's been happening over a month now.
@thomastuffin61712 ай бұрын
I have been having this issue on and off since I was a kid. Feels like my adams apple is enlarged and everytime I exhale I have this nervous reflex that closes of the throat briefly. It gets worse throughout the day and by night time I literally have a sore throat. Sometimes I'll wake up in the morning and "forget" about it and it will be gone for several weeks. Food helps briefly or even a focused activity, but water does nothing. I get panicky desperate sometimes because it just won't go away, and after a week or two it literally becomes an unconcious breathing disorder.

Lisa, thanks for your comment here and also your wonderful email (which I intend to respond to). Definitely let me know how this goes for you if you try it. And FYI - for migraines, have you tried my TMJ video that shows you how to release your SCMs and scalenes? It can really help. Any of my neck fascia release techniques could help, along with chest and biceps. All this front fascia getting tight really pulls on the neck and head, pulls us into forward head posture and restricts blood flow to the brain. Also, drinking brewed cacao might help. Anything to up your nitric oxide, like nose breathing or foods like cacao that are vasodilators. Hope you feel better!
