Watching this I see how narcissistic parents make for very anxious children. Not only don't they protect or school their children in how to be okay with difficult situations; they actively engender anxiety in them by blaming shaming gaslighting and scapegoating. Great video and great take aways from both doctors 🙋🙏

Being the center of attention in relation to stress has to do with control. As a child I was bullied and teased, forced to be the center of attention. I have anxiety, and AVPD, So I'm uncomfortable in many situations. I am also a musician, and I have the ability to perform in public. At first this appears to conflict with my previous statement, but they are actually different types of experience. This is because as the performer, I am in control of the situation. I'm confident that I'm a good musician who is practiced up. This affects the stress levels, in one situation I'm not in control, the other I am.

I was literally just wondering the other day: "What is this peculiar double breath I'm taking involuntarily, that makes me feel so calm and peaceful?" That is amazing! Perhaps I can do it purposefully? I thought it was a desperate inhale for air as I suffocated under anxiety. Either way, I could finally breathe. And it gave me such relief!

I’ve always wondered the difference between grit (toughing it out), flexibility, (allowing stresses to blow around you without taking it into yourself. Resilience to me means holding relatively steady even when the boat is rocking, because processing events that make us momentarily lose our place (in our mind, emotions, physical body status are processed as quickly as possible to that current moment.

When I finally watched this movie, I sobbed, literally, alone in my room after I'd just gone into exile leaving my husband and son back home in Colombia. From its depiction of an unending violence that has been present from the very establishment of its independence, to my father's assassination and most of my family's having fled the country during the various stages of the violence. In all of that, there is the terrible trauma of the narcissism that is so pervasive in Colombian culture. The absence of father figures in Colombia forced our nation to have a sudden shift in which women had to become heads of family, establishing unrealistic expectations of invulnerability for the men, so as to not abandon the family, and for women, to be everything for their families. That mixed with the colonial narcissism left over by the Spanish aristocratic system, and a corrupt nepotistic society, where my family name, combined with my physical appearance, my economic situation (we actually categorize people by placement into our six social strata), and my region of origin determines my life, my possibilities of love, as well as what I can and can't devote myself to. Seeing this play out on my TV, recognizing the trauma I'd received and the trauma I'd caused on my son, as well as the gripping fear that the family lived in, just overwhelmed me.

The title of this UTube drew me in. I learned a lot. The And you to Dr. Lamb and Dr. Huber an. However, the title is misleading since I learned nothing about the differences and similarities between trauma, stress and anxiety. That’s what I need to know more about. Could you re-address that topic?

I just listened to a lecture about Trauma by a psychiatrist in Europe..... he mentioned that in studies regarding PTSD... some factors have been identified that play a role in wherethere or not people get PTSD (study on soldiers, so thousands of people undergoing similar traumatic experiences).... they are social based factors: behavior of surrounding people to the traumatized person, being in a hostile environment after trauma, number of non-formal social contacts).....

When my youngest child graduated from high school in 2020, and left home, I went into the Empty Nest syndrome, although it is not a real syndrome, it caused me stress and depression. For the first time in 26 years, I didn't have a child in my home anymore to care for, look after...I started to tailspin, picked up the bottle and it only made it worse, also during the pandemic, so I was working from home. It is a blessing I am very proud of my young adult children. They are respectful, kind, productive people, and it brings me pride and joy. However, now two years into this, I realize that it is no longer Empty Nest, it is anxiety, stress, trauma, with a history of Alcohol Abuse Disorder stage 2. My sponsor says I am full of BS and this disease is going to kill me, that I am hopeless. I am not dependent, but when I do drink, my stress and anxiety the next few days are awful. Thank you, so glad I clicked on your video! Already feeling like taking a walk and calling my mom.

I think you should get a new sponsor. Telling someone that they are “ hopeless “ seems to go against the benefit of having a sponsor. I’m sure you’ve told yourself that you are “ hopeless “ during tough times. NO ONE should be told that they are “ hopeless, EVER!!

Great run down of the dynamics that can be in play but in essence of it there are so many ironies. The main thing is, somehow by miracle of chance 'the narcissts' target or partner has tolerated the conditions in issues of the behaviors for so long they need a chance to grant themselves some ease. Ask anyone who has been through these workings and they will kindly inform you that discard or separation as we know it is only a new progressing phase for the relationship. That being the narcissist rarely ever comes to the table factually and that bygones are never bygones which in truth stretches to the fullest extent of all those involved in such futile or seemingly unnecessary entanglements and ways for being. It's a soul test! There sanity appears profusely and regularly breached and from it your own integrity of character will be morphed to the strangest extents of what can be personally and emotionally humanly be comprehended as the final or furthest limits. That's que to refrain.

Our minds are our instruments Learn to be it’s master NOT It’s slave🥰 Dr Claire Weekes was a pioneer in her day on nervous illness now called anxiety Her books helped me understand completely what anxiety is & what it does to the human body & why. Once I understood it my fear of anxiety was gone as I now knew how & what & why i was having the symptoms that frightened me when I 1st experienced anxiety, so once the fear had gone when anxiety came again I was forearmed which helped alleviate the 1st part so many have which was the fear, apprehension that came as soon as anxiety symptoms started, so found in my personal experience allowed me to deal calmly with my anxiety disorder faster as I had now taken the overcome the main symptom which is fear that was a massive step in regulating the other symptoms that anxiety brings, panic, racing thoughts, dread, sweating, lightheadedness etc as I now had the knowledge & understanding of how anxiety worked☺️ Knowledge is power Take back your power by understanding how something works so you can be the one in power Not the anxiety in power. If this helps 1 person that would make my day because I like millions was so confused as to what was happening to when I’d been unaware how stressed I was in life, anxiety then came as a message to tell me I needed to be more aware of when we get too much stress, overload, overwhelm in our lives anxiety will be the result So stay vigilant & learn to listen to your body & mind check in how you’re feeling so you can know when you need to be de-stressing & prevent anxiety having to tell you 🫶 You got this 🥰

I wish you'd do a video about "narcolepsy with cataplexy," because today's information is still lacking greatly in how varied narcolepsy symptoms can actually be. Most medical professionals don't realize that there's a lot of things not being mentioned or addressed in the medical literature about this disease, and it's causing the length of time for patients to be correctly diagnosed to be even longer, especially when the average time between the onset of symptoms and diagnosis is already seven plus years. -For example: I have status cataplecticus- a rare manifestation of narcolepsy with cataplexy where the paralysis episodes are recurring and overlapping and last for hours or even days, without a refractory period, in the absence of emotional triggers. I also suffer/experience involuntary muscle spasms. This can cause jerking legs, buckled knees, twitching hands and other forms of muscle contractions, contortions and discomfort. I know there's a lot more people with so called "atypical symptoms" of narcolepsy with cataplexy like myself, because I've talked to too many sufferers who also have more than just the textbook symptoms.
