People do send info like that to the Ukrainian government to help the war effort, but to call it “spying” is insane. Their home was invaded, so they notify the proper authorities, just like we’d do if someone broke into our houses. It might sound just a tad too simplistic; but the Russian soldiers who occupied this village and brutalised innocent civilians are just thugs and cowards. I spent 23 years as a professional soldier and I was taught an ethos of behaviour; something that the majority of my cohorts took very seriously. We would not degrade ourselves, our unit or our country by conducting these atrocities. We see it time-after-time; where these cowards abandon/burn or deliberately sabotage their own equipment to avoid contact with professional Ukrainian troops and then surrender. Their defence "I was tricked into it"; a time of reckoning is coming.

Those tied hands and feet are not an isolated incident either. & We know there is more to that. It is not just shooting. Guns have range. It is not necessary to tie someone up to shoot them, it takes more effort. It is not being spelled out so I will respect that. But there is a war crimes reason for it. And yes, they are notorious. It is encouraged bc it is used as a psychological warfare tactic, in hopes fear will cripple the opposition. It has not. But the Russian army has no such expectations of integrity and conduct bc it is seen as a valid tactic, and it encourages brutal mentalities to enlist, people who want targets, want to do things they cannot get away with in regular society but can when deployed.
