Babcock went with his best players? Matthews under 15 minutes in game 7 vs Bruins? Babshit is a debacle.
@reellowcanadian67605 жыл бұрын
martin camenzuli not that I am absolving Babcock of any blame for the game 7 loss but when you look at total shifts in that game, Mathews had 27, tied with JT for most on the team. Yet Matthews played almost 3 less minutes. For comparison, Bergeron had 24 total shifts and Marchand had 23 for Boston. What's interesting is his average shift length in games 1-5 was 47 seconds but in 6 and 7 it dropped to 40 seconds. I think you have to at least question Matthews and why he cut his shifts short in the last 2 games of the series. Was he tired and couldn't sustain being on the ice longer? Or was Babcock pulling him off earlier? In any event, Babcock is gone and it was the right decision. Perhaps this should have been done at the end of last year. Just something to think about :)

@blacksunshine10895 жыл бұрын
David Pitts, I think it was before. I suspect the main reason why he went to Colorado is that he wanted to play for a Cup contender which Anaheim really wasn’t back in 2003 and 2004. Sure, they got to the Finals in 2003, but were a Cinderella team that year. They weren’t in the same league as Detroit, Colorado, Dallas, Philadelphia, or Toronto at that time.

The guy is certainly not a "players coach" and I think he tends to rub his players (and GM) the wrong way sometimes. That being said, no one ever said the bench boss had to be a "players coach". They aren't there to make friends, they're there to win. However, as soon as Babcock loses the dressing room, he's gotta go. There's no fixing that

Jay P., on one end, you’ve got Brice Boudreau who every player loves, then you’ve got Babcock who every player hates. They both find a way to lose in their own interesting ways. Craig Berube seems to have figured it out by just gaining the respect of the players by communicating well, not lying to them about their roles or their opportunities, but still backing them up and having confidence in them to do their jobs. The players love him, but they still know they have to work hard and pay attention.
@jayp.61665 жыл бұрын
@@AV57 Absolutely. It's a fine line. Even when Babcock was rumored to be coming to the Leafs, I thought it was an odd hire. The Leafs were smack in the middle of the rebuild (Before drafting Matthews, Trading for Andersen etc.) and it was clear that youth was the future for this team. A younger coach with a new school mentality would have made more sense....I think. Kind of like Jared Bednar or John Cooper. That being said, who that fits that profile was/ is available? @@blacksunshine1089 no argument Chelios had a great career but pointing out the statement that no veteran FAs will sign with the leafs is simply flawed and perhaps because he played for Babcock near the end of his career might not be an indictment on Babcock's preference for younger players versus he just wasn't effective anymore

I think he knew he could tell me whatever he wanted. And, I knew I could tell him whatever I wanted.” That's a direct quote from Henrik Zetterburgh talking about his relationship with Mike Babcock...Babcock was tough on him, he pushed him, they were at odds at times, but they respected each other. Lidstrom said he didn't have a difficult time playing under Babcock at all and he respected how Babcock ran a tight ship. Datsyuk gave Babcock credit for turning him into one of the best 2-way forwards in the NHL. Mike Commodore, who cares, he was lucky to have an NHL career at all and was the source of controversy with multiple coaches and teams. Kariya was soft and again he whined and complained about multiple coaches...In Colorado, they got so sick of him, they barely played him after a while...Even Selanne got sick of dealing with him and they went their separate ways after their time in Colorado. I loved Mike Modano, but even Dallas stopped playing him before he went to Detroit, he was done as an NHL player and couldn't let go. Modano was trying to hold on to past glory when he should have retired with dignity. I mean if you want to talk about doing research, maybe you should try doing some yourself...I'm going off personal knowledge, but I know for a fact you can do a few simple google searches and find information to back up everything I have said here.
@elyssia-paris30645 жыл бұрын
@@creepyrobsta5509 oh Here's some more quotes from players that played under Babcock for ya since you brought up the whole research thing. "Mike was great to me," Tavares said. "The conversations we had, whether it was about my game and making mistakes or making good plays and playing the way they needed me to play, was all very good, and the message was able to give me a lot of confidence. "Obviously guys have to understand their roles pretty quickly," Crosby said. "So whether it's the guys he puts together or what he communicates along with the whole coaching staff, I think it's been pretty clear. You know what your role is going to be and how you are going to help the team, and I think that is really important." I don't know, but when the best players in the world and the ones that know what it takes to win at the highest level are saying you made a positive impact on their careers and and saying that you made things easy for them. Who really cares what drama queens like Mike Commodore and Paul Kariya are saying. And who cares what washed up hasbins like Chelios and Modano are saying, that are probably more upset that they are too old and aren't good at hockey anymore than anything else.
