Had a coach kick a guy in the head (with his helmet on), because the j.v. squad was kicking the varsitys butt in practice.

But whats that got to do with Babcock? You're trying to blame him for that too?
@stevehill934 Жыл бұрын
So hard to say, when you're in charge of a bunch of young millionaires many with ego, you have to stay two steps ahead of them or the inmates will run the asylum. Being firm, stern, tough and almost emotionless can be a necessary way to be in this circumstance. HOWEVER you can hold people accountable and light fires.under their butts without going extra IE malice and personal attacks. It's a real thin line you have to walk to be respected vs hated while possessing those traits. Like I said it's so tough to say bc when I hear things like the modano incident, that's real low and classless. However this all takes place near the end of his career which I don't think is a coincidence given how soft our society has become. Old school masculine energy and way of communicating has gone out the window. Babcock is not a participation trophy type guy and he shouldn't be burnt for that. However hearing this come from some very respectful veterans, it's tough. On that note though, we aren't behind the scenes in the planes, dressing rooms, ice etc so we really don't know these players personalities either . Vince McMahon has been accused by many on how ruthless and brutal he could be but is loved and respected by guys like the undertaker so I mean ugh it's tough.

Let's remember this Babcock garbage started with Mike Commodore's reaction to the firing. Has anyone seen this guy's Twitter feed? He was literally posting photos of Babcock cleaning out his office and celebrating it. There's not liking a coach, and there's going so far that people began posting "get help", "Mike bro you need help", etc. on his tweets. The problem in that relationship WAS'NT Babcock far as I can tell. Doug raises a really good point that everyone forgets. Don't we respect Steve Yzerman? Why on earth would he hire Babcock to run the Canadian Olympic team TWICE? We all know that the Olympics are big-time stakes and major press. If there was even a whiff, even a sniff of a possibility that Babcock would mistreat a player or embarrass Yzerman AND Canada itself, he wouldn't have hired him. This entire thing is a non-story, and I've lost a ton of respect for Chelios because he used his personal beef with Babcock to jump on board. The one case people wonder about is Mitch Marner. Why did he say what he did? Now? People from Toronto know that Mitch Marner was enemy #1 in Toronto for his contract, and also his father meddling into managing his son's life. Now you tell me... if you are Marner or his handlers, and you had a minor beef with a coach that was settled long ago, and now that coach is fired and being criticized -- do you say "nah, no biggie", or do you support the narrative that points at Babcock? Remember, you/Marner were HATED in Leafs nation. Who in the TO press would EVER give negative press to a victim of an abusive coach? Calling out Babcock was a "get out of jail free" card for Mitch Marner with the Toronto press. Count on it.

Why hire Babcock twice for the olympics? Because: 1. that's a short-term run of hand-picked star players 2. he gets results He's good at the prep work. He's smart. He's successful. No doubt about it. He's also a psychological wreck: narcissistic, vindictive, spiteful, and humiliating (even people who worked at his favorite restaurants started speaking out against Babcock due to his inappropriatly entitled behaviors during his time in Detroit). Players are willing to handle his personality over a short term for the sake of a chance at gold medals. The Canadian Olympic team is an all-star team that is largely self-accountable. But when in Toronto? Well we all know how long that lasted. If Leafs Nation hated Marner so bad then why did Shanny fire Babcock instead of trading Marner? Because the reality is that Commodore, while not being a stand-up guy about it, was right. Babcock is classic Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It is unwise to support or defend him or expect him to change. Marner, on the other hand, is coachable.

You're confusing marner with nylander, it was him and his dad holding up and out Toronto regarding contract

I'm actually starting to feel bad for Babs. I actually understand why he plays the power games that he plays, and whilst on the face of it, if you dont look any deeper, it makes him look like a fucking shit person, but thats only when you look at the surface and dont go any deeper. You dont know what he, and many other coaches are fighting. It's called player power and it starts when you allow toxic cliques to form in dressing rooms. Before you know it, the clique can turn on you, down tools and get you fired. Tons of these cliques revolve around some of the biggest trouble makers in sports and they are never held accountable, always the coach who gets fired. There is too much player power, too mahy trouble makers and too many cliques, and thats why SOME coaches employ power games against their players. If you dont see Babs side of that then you dont have the full picture. And I DONT know that he "verbally abused" Frantzen because nobody has bothered to report what it was that Babcock actually said. I'd like to know what he said to Frantzen first before I decide for myself whether it was verbal abuse or not. If Frantzen's mindset was so weak, and suffering from concussion that badly that he couldn't take comments on his play, then he should not have been at work to begin with. I need to know what was said, I'm not going to mindlessly join the witchhunt just because its popular. I know what Babs was fighting, he was trying to break up cliques, and of course players are not going to like it, it destroys their power in the dressing room to get him fired. Thats all these players want, is to do it all their own way, fuck the coach, play bad get him fired, bank the cheques. Nobody holds them responsible. If these people are that cancerous that they can play bad to get a coach fired then I can see why the coach has to employ messed up power games against them. He almost has no choice if he wants to survive as a coach. Everybody's jumping on Babcocks back, but some of the biggest trouble makers in this sport seem to be off the radar for scrutiny and these are the people Babcock was fighting in the first place. Some of you people are fucking blind as bats and just want to fucking beat up on this guy and you play right into the hands of these toxic dressing room cliques doing their dirty work for them and destroying this guy in public. For what? Trying to retain power in the dressing room? Someone has to! YOU CANNOT ALLOW THE LUNATICS TO RUN THE ASYLUM!!
