Mitsubishi Triton GLX+: Mitsubishi has produced a version of its Triton dual cab (and club cab) 4×4 ute that is aimed directly at tradies…. right down to vinyl floor mats.
They started with a low to mid-spec GLX and added extra stuff for only a little extra dosh to create GLX+.
It sells for $43,490 for the 6-speed auto dual cab tested, a premium of $2500 over the 6-speed manual.
Auto really should be a no cost option these days and Mitsubishi is not the only offender here.
The GLX+ scores a smattering of advanced driver assist technology but not the full raft available higher up the scale and if you want a locking rear diff’, that’s extra but at least it’s available.
GLX+ gets a more basic Easy Select 4×4 system with dual range offering 2WD High and 4WD High and Low range…. no tricky stuff just simple engineering.
Another addition to GLX+ is a roof mounted cabin air circulator to optimise climate control. Again, simple and effective.
You get the slightly larger 7.0-inch touch screen controller and smartphone streaming, side steps, rear bumper with step and 6 tie down hooks in the load tray.
Triton tows 3100kg, a touch shy of the 3500kg benchmark for the one tonner class.
It is substantially cheaper than similar vehicles from other manufacturers such as Toyota and Ford.
That’s because Mitsubishi has been able to leverage pretty much the same chassis for years in a number of Triton models.
Matters not a hoot because it still totes a tonne in the tray, goes pretty much anywhere off road and runs like clockwork.
You’ve gotta like that when you’re on the job and a tight budget.
In relation to the lack of much advanced driver assist stuff, I suspect many buyers wouldn’t really give a toss about not having blind spot warning, lane change assist and miss-acceleration mitigation. I wouldn’t.

Correction at 7:41 - unlike other 4wd, with MS Super Select you can drive in 4H on bitumen up to 100 kph (this is a unique selling point of Mitzi 4x4).

Just got to clarify an inaccuracy. This is probably the only 4wd Ute out there that you can leave its selectable 4wd mode on permanently due to the centre diff. You’re right most utes don’t allow this and limit speeds to 100kph in 4wd mode. Not the case with the triton...

Only in models with the Super Select transfer case. The GLX+ he is reviewing only has an Easy Select transfer case. So in this variant, you can't drive in any 4WD mode on high traction surfaces.

A really good review, and how refreshing it's not from Club Bogan. Your right it's not a car, it doesn't handle like a car and Ute's or pick ups can be a bit scarry on wet roads even with a light foot. I'm actually buying a Triton GLS. I also have beautiful Corolla ZR. It's lovely to drive handles very well, more power than I would ever use. Also 5.5 litres per 100 ks on the motorway. The downside is not much room in the boot. All cars are a compromise even dual cab Ute's. You simply can't have everything in one vehicle. Cars are like hammers, they come 8n different types and weights for different applications.

if you have a commercial pickup, do not wish for a rear disc brake. Rear Drum breaks, especially during parking brake on inclined road, are way more superior than disc brakes.

The models above the one tested eg the premium, have standard leather ventilated warming front seating and include the latest safety systems such as both blind spot monitoring and cross traffic alert, automated alert/collision braking etc , the only option I could not find I.e missing, was adaptive Cruise control so saving me around 40 k on neighbours maxed out SUV equivalent. In my case additionally purchased an Aussie made lockable hard top lid to go on the included tub liner + a full length secure slide out draw so effectively giving more locked and secure storage than an SUV. Now that it’s Kitted with black-view 4K cameras, red arc towing set up dual battery with external Anderson plugs, rack mounted pullout awning system it has served as both a great urban car and a ultimate sleeper camper coast to coast all terrain holiday machine. 😎👋🏻

absolutely right. the models above have more kit. As you point out, all of those features should be across the range. Perhaps they will be soon, who knows.
