This is a brilliant video. It's amazing how much more kids learn when you don't talk down to them.

"Tea is the answer" I was under the impression that it was 42. A joy to see a 10 year old being so focused for so long.

This looks like it should be quite funny... if Sally manages to spend the whole video taking the - - - - out of her Dad... But I'm not sure where I can find a spare 4 hours for a while.... maybe I'll save it for Boxing Day.

Well, it would be a great alternative to the Queen's speech I suppose! I've been sitting on the video since January, but I really wish someone else had made a video like it before we built our printer so that we could fast forward to any bits we had trouble with and see how someone else did it. I hope someone might find parts of it useful, though I can't help worrying that my bad Yorkshire accents and occasional terrible impersonations of Harry Potter characters might upset people! :D

Big hugs to you guys!! Epic project... how many days did it take to render this project in post processing software... one day I will watch all the way to the end!! That’s a promise...

No point watching it unless you are building one really. Would be a rather dull experience. I just left it rendering overnight, which is usually long enough! :)

Any issue with it not reaching the bed to print? I just built mine and it runs through the auto level fine but when I go to print it stops before it reaches the bed and starts the print. The distance is equivalent to the sensor used for the auto level. If you had this issue and know how to fix it I would love the assistance!!

Are you running the stock firmware? You have to set the z-height (and possibly calculate the Z-probe offset) after you have run the auto calibration. What I do is run autocalibration, then go through the menu and move the z-axis almost down to the bed (you will need to disable soft endstops in the menu), when the nozzle is nearly touching the bed I put a piece of paper under it and lower the head in 0.1mm increments until it just grips the paper. Make a note of the z height at this point. If the height doesn't equal zero then you will need to calculate the delta height and set that, then you should find it works OK. We had real trouble when we first set this one up because the auto-calculated z height tried ramming the nozzle through the print bed. Let me know how you get on and if you need any more info!

spungletrumpet I ended up uploading two different firmwares them back to another copy of the “stock” version and it finally started working, but I still have issues with it having random areas where it prints super thin spots in the base layer. I will try your technique and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the reply and help.

spungletrumpet so I tried your methods and I think they may have done the trick

@@StarDrifter That's great! It took me a while to get my head round the fact that 'auto calibration' and 'bed levelling' are different things. I use Marlin 1.1.9 and once the calibration and levelling are dialled in it's fairly bombproof. Hope you are getting some good prints! :)
