@TheAefril5 жыл бұрын
The path correction feature is awesome. It is very innovative to show that as a software directive. Eventually with learning algorithms it should be able to moderately problem solve, or find alternate routes. Handy in an industrial setting such as an Oil Rig, where if a pipe blows it would kill the maintenance crew working in the immediate vicinity. An engineer working in the 'command centre' could monitor the vision from the roaming ANYmal's and implement pipe / valve diversions to minimise problems or to divert resources.

I have a brilliant idea! How about we make a bunch of little robots! Each one has a sensor and an alarm. It can detect carbon mono-oxide, leaks, floods, fire. They could also be able to run for years before a battery replacement and would monitor each and every hazardous spot 24/7 every second (not like every 4 hours, or how often you are going to send this thing around). They could also be scalable and you could use as many of them as you need! Aah, wait, it was already invented and is called an alarm! So back to the drawing board :)
@makerbeelab55465 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying that this dog is rubbish, I'm saying that the application of it is absolutely rubbish. The problem that it solves (well doesn't really as it doesn't provide proper 24/7 monitoring) can be solved using dirt cheap CO2, O2, leak, fire, CO, gas alarms. So - this robot would become useful, if it could do something that would be too difficult or too dangerous to send a human to fix. So it has to be rated to explosive, toxic, hasardous environments (hot, cold, IP67 rated) and should be able to turn valves, switch things, apply duct tape etc.

That’s really amazing but I’m concerned about the lack of open source alternatives. I don’t think it’s a good idea currently a handful of companies (who ultimately work for the banks and a hand full of wealthy shareholders) are the only ones that have access to this technology. We need decentralized, open source, inexpensive alternatives so that the playing field level. If it isn’t made level soon it maybe become impossible to do so. If anyone thinks an oligarchy is bad now imagine what it could be like when they don’t need to employ (need) anyone.

There's no way on this planet that it would be allowed into a chemical plant. The risks associated with it are too great.
@lucasfernando52905 жыл бұрын
There are no reason for that, this requires just a little bit more specific restrictions to the robot.
@jackking55675 жыл бұрын
@@lucasfernando5290 Specific instructions as in 'don't enter a chemical works'. Honestly have you ever been into an industrial chemical site? Are you aware of the multiple layers of safety and hazards risk? Just takes one tumble against a pipe and it could cause complete shutdown. Remember too that this is not gas tight as in flame safe. Should even a tiny amount of gas enter part of the bot and ignite, the flame could pass to the open air and ignite the chemical works. It's not as easy as adding gas tight seals on joints btw: Every component has to be made able to contain a flame as well as hold back an internal gas ignition/explosion. Don't believe me? Take a look at electrical components for mining equipment or even a simple electric motor that powers a fuel pump at a gas station.
