Some Cassie trivia: the carbon fiber Cassie shown in early videos had the extra "chin" in the front shell to allow for a KVH fiber optic gyro. It ended up not being necessary in version 2 of Cassie and was cut from the commercial design, since MEMS IMUs have gotten really good. But the fiber gyros are a whole different level of good. Cassie can confirm that the earth is round, because the gravity vector from the KVH does in fact drift at the rate that a rotating planet predicts. This is a plot point in the new Netflix documentary "Behind the Curve"...

Amazing work. I wonder, if another way to solve the stair problem, would be using optical sensors in the feet. Like a laser in your everyday mouse, instead there would be a laser that projects outward in front of the foot, that way the foot would always Know to lift itself. Pair this with an optical laser that aims down from the bottom of the foot, and it would know the appropriate distance to place it's next step, heigh and distance already being accounted for. just spitballing some ideas, I'm no engineer, tho I wish lol.
@sebastian_schanz5 жыл бұрын
first problem would be, that optical sensors need to be clean to work properly. And they are sensible. Walking like Cassie does in the dirt, wouldn't be possible with optical sensors. But indeed there are other sensors, which could be placed directly into the foot. Like ultrasonic sensors.

Musk said this robots would eventually move so fast, a human wouldn't be able to see them!

When you take a look at Earth's other residents: Animals. There's no animal with capabilities close to that. If/it will take a very long time before they're at that point.

Musk is just a showman throwing around other investors money. Just look at his 'hyperloop' a short tiny tunnel with a car bouncing off the sides down it at 30mph.

wrong, musk said they *already have some that fast*

Combination of size, high speed, and keeping distance of humans :) They're closer but it's still not a matter of too fast to see. We could make tiny robots but that would be "Too tiny to see" where speed doesn't matter as much.

because they have to humanize the robots, so we would not fear or object to robots,

Everyone thought there would be robots or androids like terminator would be ready by the end of last millennium. The reality is far away, is lots complicated and requires so much dev and tests

They just need to combine Boston Dynamics' Atlas, + IBM Watson (via wireless connection), + Sophia. In Boston Dynamics the humanoid bots are rather small, enough to cover them with skin, and give some sexy moves, and a brain would complete the ginoid. TOTAL: Android, AI, stabilization/adaptation software. I am dreaming about Boston Dynamics teaming up with Sophia, the first digital citizen. And some super-powerful AI would let the bot decide how to read people's reactions and constantly improve over time. All the good tech and soft are already there; we just need to work as a team.
