I've seen anymal walk a hundred times, but I think this is the first video where I've really appreciated the utility of its crooked knee thing. That extra bit of freedom is probably hugely useful for this sort of terrain. And it seems to be very strong and stable.

Thanks! The kinematic configuration of ANYmal is almost perfectly symmetric. This makes control indeed a bit easier. Also, it allows the robot to use its knees when climbing up. It could even rotate the knee for 360 degrees, but we have not utilized this feature here.

Really good work. Btw, I would skip the music for videos like this. Just hearing the robot do its thing is more than good enough!

This is genuinely the best of these 'dog' like robots I've seen, spot is way overhyped, it's very stiff as it just follows some kind of loop in it's stepping pattern. I am way more excited about ANYmal, it's dynamic, and efficient, it's very confident about its steps. I see no flaws compared to Spot.

We try our best to push these systems towards real-world applications. Thank you for the feedback!🙏

My wheelchair in top of one of these would change my life. Not that I want to go inspect ruins, but, you know...

That is a genuinely good idea for real-world application!

While these guys probably will be used for b2b, i kinda wish to see the wheeled one that can also stand up in my house at some point, with retractable hands, when they have AGI level understanding. I can't get over the fact that it can both walk and skate around to go much faster and be more efficient than other robots i've seen when the conditions are right. I have this idea where when standing up it rolls the front wheels into the arms and rolls out hands or clamps, basically changing configuration with a simple mechanism.

Our lab is already working on these type of next-gen systems. Check out our channel regularly for updates!
