Same, although it was Destiny back then in that JonTron debate. After seeing the groups of people I watched like Sargon actually having a dude who's videos I loved (and still love, they're like KZbin classics) promote just straight up white supremacy. That's when I realized I don't want to be a part of this. I was in it for the memes and the Left at the time were painted as these whiny SJWs who drink all the soy and get triggered at mean comments. Those mean comments usually pertaining to the whole "Muslim rape gangs" back when bigots were on about scaring Europeans that brown people were spooky and gunna get them if they let them in as refugees. Although, Destiny has kind of started agreeing with people like Sargon, kind of out of spite towards the Left because he's an angry lil' man. Thank god I've got people like Vaush, Dylan Burns, Xanderhaul, Hasan, Shark, and any other Lefty that pops into my timeline and makes good interesting content.

You made a ripple with me Vaush. I've been a hard lefty since my political opinions began to form. For many years I hid that away. Vaush really helped me stopped being ashamed. I had both liberal and conservative members of my family who said I being dangerous because I was reading Proudon at 13. I was reading Asimov at 9. I like books. Along with definitely turning my wife into a Lefty, Vaushes push helped me to stop hiding away a bunch of parts of my personality that I've hid for different reasons. I love Star Trek, James Bond, and Fantastic Four comics and I can enjoy them again. I'm writing again for the first time in years, I even sort of feel reconciliation with God (I was molested in a church as a kid) So though I can't give Vaush credit for everything, the push he gave me to embrace myself as a Ancom/ Ansoc kinda guy did Have Ripples.

Vaush is a genuinely good human being and I respect his resilience, tenacity, and incisiveness in matters concerning the central importance of the humanity and dignity of others. Respecting human decency and defending those who can't defend themselves is at the core of functioning and evolving society, and despite the occasional postering/self-deprecation, Vaush is obviously a kind person with a keen mind and a magnetic eloquence that serves to raise the alarm concerning fascist trends as well as addressing many societal injustices.
@tortellinifettuccine2 жыл бұрын
Anyone can have their minds changed, but human biology makes it extremely difficult in certain circumstances. If a person has believed something for a majority of their life and lived their life treating it as fact when it was incorrect, when they’re told that the way they do things or the thing they believe is incorrect, they react with aggression and disbelief. You can eventually convince someone, if they’re exposed to the actual truth or fact for a significant time, but that’s not easy to do.
@rohiogerv222 жыл бұрын
I think Vaush is really good at not falling for the bait of trying to convince people directly. The people you convince of new ideas are your mom, your friends, people who seek you out for clarity. For people who don't near-unconditionally trust your word, really the only thing you're likely to convince them of is to apply a little scrutiny to the folks they DO turn to to make sense of the world for them. This is what's so valuable about the debates Vaush still does. He may not sell a DailyWire fan on an identity-based theory of gender, but he can at least make it painfully obvious that the Charlie Kirks and Ben Shapiros of the world aren't operating from a logical, charitable, or coherent framework. They want to get rid of the things and people they don't like just because that's how they are-there's no honor or rigor in it-and for some people that's all it takes to stop being fun.

Dear reader, Please, don't be a BAT. BAT - "Downtown" Dictionary: BAT/BATS A term used to describe an individual who is reliant on *echo chambers*, or as a joke - an Echo Cave; where many BATS thrive and reside. BATS utilize groupthink as a form of echolocation - which results in the ignoring of pertinent/important information; and can ultimately lead to poor decisions.. truly, a "blind" and misguided navigation system. BATS typically don't stray far from the safety of their Echo Caves; due to their lack of: range, reason, original thoughts, empirical evidence, introspection, empathy, accountability, fragility, and more. BAT + Practical Wordplay: BAT/BATS It is well-known that bats (the animal, belonging to the order Chiroptera), are notorious for bumping into smooth surfaces (e.g. a window, or building)... thus, the outside/real world (and people like myself; who live in it) can be likened to a [smooth surface] - which BATS often run the risk of running into; if they stray too far from the safety of their Echo Cave. For example: * a BAT by the name of Steven Crowder strayed too far from his Echo Cave; he flew face-first into a [smooth surface] by the name of Sam Seder the Brave. 😏 #WhenEchoLocationGoesWrong * - This message was brought to you by your local (poc) leftist. No bats were harmed during the making of this term.

I think for some people, some of their beliefs are so intertwined that challenging one of their beliefs is hard for them because of how many other things they would need to question. For example, someone who is religious cannot challenge their beliefs on politics as easily because they came to their political beliefs in part because of their religious beliefs. It's why it's important to always accept that you could be wrong, and are likely wrong about numerous things, because as long as you're looking to improve and learn more, you'll move closer and closer towards better opinions over time.
