Early Cure had some really unique guitar parts. Robert Smith is underrated as a guitarist. Simple but very distinctive and unusual

I remember the first time i ever heard this song,i was at a biker festival and i was half pissed,about 10 years ago. I just heard that opening guitar sound and i ran to the tent where the band were playing it,i was just mesmerised by it,and the band were absolutely fantastic at it too,the tent was all lit up by a green light and it was really late at night,it was just a fantastic atmosphere,loved the song ever since.

I can still remember going into Doncaster Sth Yorks UK and buying the single after hearing it on John Peels radio show, I then saw the band at Sheffield Polytechnic shortly after, to be honest, they were crap but I did see them again years later at Sheffield city hall and they were amazing a really tight polished act.

Thankyou for clearing up the flange part in a forrest . Its been 25 years trying to work out how they did it. The riff i am talking off is the verse riff. Its what gives the song its intensity to me. A bassline not on a bass. I have seen them live but prefer them on vinyl. The verse riff phases in and out in the track a little adding further ambience to me. I must have heard it well over 5000 times and it never gets old.....like me. I was in my 20s when it was released. Thanks for a great video....props. The beginning of fascination st with Rob playing the intro has a similar ambience and depth.
@glendoggett967010 ай бұрын
I think they discovered the flange effect when overdubbing a guitar track from a tape and someone rubbed their thumb on one of the flanges of the spinning tape reel causing random delays and phase shifts when the original track and the overdubbed tape are mixed together.
