I've lived on the other side of the Ring of Fire since 1980 and still have yet to go. Now closed due to Covid I may be able to at least fly safely around the grounds without any problems. I guess that's one positive from a negative.

This is the first video I've seen that shows the castle in its surrounding landscape. The closeup of the pool and all that is nice, but the setting of the castle in the mountains and ocean is amazing.

I do too Jose Guerrero, I have been on 3 of the tours on 3 different occasions! That pool was built to hang into a concrete hole. The architect was named Julia and she was so intelligent that she built the pool so it could sway during an earthquake and it has a Ancient Grecian look. Hearst went to Europe and bought 1/3 of the world's antiquities and brought to his castle!! There is another pool indoors and it has lapis blue and gold small tiles. Everywhere you see gold at Hearst Castle, it is REAL gold!!!.

It would be amazing if someone had the $ for a private party and invite inner city children and feed them all . Maybe someday places like this can help people heal just by the beauty of the sea and tranquility of the gardens . Imagine the creativity that could be sparked in a child if this was donated as a home for homeless or abandoned children . I know it'll never happen but I think it's a nice thought . ❤️

While Hearst Castle is impressive in terms of architecture and location, the interior and furnishings came off as a monument to excess and a lack of any real taste; the random acquisition of things for the sake of owning them. The haphazardness with which treasures are deployed at the mansion suggest no real style or concept. Just a kind of gluttony for the sake of gluttony that says nothing more profound than, "Look what I could by with a lot of money!" The ornate grounds and structures, designed by someone OTHER thant W.R. Hearst, were much more pleasing to a tasteful eye than the clunkily-deposited riches inside the home.

To be honest alot of super rich people back in the early 20th century also had excessive tastes in the US, Canada and the UK. Buying up alot of art and artifacts from europe middle east asia etc to then be in there houses and manors. I think there are others that were excessive like the Ford family with Henry buying up historical buildings to then be put in Greenfeild village and Edsel ford house. Even the Vanderbilt Bitmore house that place though beautiful is excessive in size and decor. Theres a few that wernt all that excessive like william burrell (burrell collection) the Frick collection and lightner museum. Theres also vizcaya and flager museum in Florida

I have known many through business and believe me when I say they wouldn't bother to walk across the street and spit on you if you were on fire and screaming for help. How in the hell do you think they get to be that rich? It doesn't happen through honest hard work but through shady back room deals with crooked politicians. Randolph Hearst owned the Fox News of his day.

OutoorLifeFamily: You have no idea what you're talking about because you're completely ignorant of history. Go read the sordid story of William Randolph Hearst and you'll see another phony flip-flopper like Donald Trump type who started out pretending to be for the common man and later turned a 180 to the far right in favor of large corporations. Fortunately Americans were smart enough to see through his unsuccessful presidential bid in 1904...but people like you obviously weren't in 2016. Hearst was one of the originators of "fake news" that hurt many innocent people. Eventually Hearst died deep in debt because of stupid investments like this Hearst Castle.

What a pathetic fool, but then again, what liberal isn't? Fake news?? It was the "fake news" that had you believing hillary or bernie would win the election! You CNN/MSNBC watcher, I guess you would know something about fake news. "Out of touch with reality"---whose reality?, yours? I guess I would have to claim I'm out of touch with your reality also, as I don't buy into jealousy, sour grapes, negativity, anger, bitterness towards anyone who possesses more than you, which I'm guessing would be just about everyone. Abject moron, go back to your quixotic existence laced with your unmitigated ignorance.
