My great uncle went to,Gallipoli from Australia at age 15 as a bugle boy as he was too young to be a soldier. He soon became a helper to the medics who went out onto the battle field to tend to the injured and recover the dead. He was rescuing an 18 yr old who had been shot and he was shot even though he was wearing the white and red armband of a medic. He was taken to the hospital tent but soon died of infection from his wound. He had been an apprentice black smith and I have his hammer which I cherish to this day, Rest in peace Laddie. ( named Lyle). I wish I could have met him. My grandmother was devastated by his death as she was favourite sister. She lived till 2000, age 98. Thanks for the recipe for these iconic biscuits,

Usually original CWA is brown sugar melted with butter cool then add the golden syrup in the tablespoon spray with oil and the syrup falls from spoon. Everything dry is 1 cup

I used a different recipe for this but I had to check here to make sure they were meant to be shaped and then hardened because I’ve never made these before. I’m glad I did it right

Hi great recipe my dad was in WWII he was in Darwin when it was bombed he was a Lutenent. I was wondering can I use gluten free special ks or wheat Bix as I'm Celeac, high fructose, high sorbatol and low lactose, plus my cholesterol is through the roof, as I'd love to make them thanks.

Hi Shaarz, Thanks for your comment and question. Your dad is a hero! If you change the ingredients then they’re not strictly ANZAC biscuits because the recipe is protected but I think using either the GF weetbix or the GF special K would probably make quite tasty biscuits. I’ve not tried it so I can’t say for sure that it would work out but it sounds like it’s worth a try!

If you rub oil on your hands before you start shaping them they won’t stick to you,

It’s not healthy however during the war eggs weren’t readily available so this recipe was created and it’s a tradition so show respect

Why not just measure properly ? It’s much safer and easier in the end. Not good advice for first time bakers watching.
