Both covering up by wearing suits or having flesh showing in provocative outfits can be empowering, the key point is the woman choosing what they want to wear, not caring what others think breaking down stigma and stereotypes on certain images/topics in a conservative society. The woman's choice is what matters and gives them power, rather than 'The Man' (society) telling them what to do and wear / when it's appropriate and isn't appropriate or to their liking.

Mamamoo MMA 2016 stage / entire discography: Am I a joke to you? ❗️Edit: A lot of people liked this for the comment written above (312), but something in my head just clicked. The reason why people are so excited about AOA's stage is bc it's coming from a group that has been over sexualised their entire 8 year career. This is "groundbreaking" *for them* because it's almost a complete 180 from their normal concepts. A sexy group turning around and delivering this type of stage may be unheard of. As a woman, I am proud of their bravery. It takes guts to try something new on stage, especially in a conservative country like Korea where you're not sure how people will react, and also in front of the public who are used to viewing you only a certain (hyper sexualised) way. I hope AOA will continue with this kind of concept because I feel this new side allows all the members to shine much more! Can we just give a brief shout out to the fact that Mamamoo has been working full time challenging the status quo for women in Korea for YEARS? "Hwasa's ass" is damn important cause she's one of very few mainstream artists that's thicc af and creates her own beauty standards instead of trying to fit in. And she's proud about it which she's showing by her outfits. Her skin is not ghost-dipped-in-flour-white either and she's rocking it despite tons of criticism. Her being unapologetic about the way she looks and forcing the industry to accept her is massive for women not only in Korea. Moving on to the others - Solar's pole-dancing on stage, taking ownership of her sexuality, not taking any prisoners; Byul has been dressing in suits, ties and floor-length coats since forever, giving everyone these masculine vibes and turning heads, not giving a rat's ass about no gender roles; Wheein being mature, smooth and chill, advocating for female friendships, relying on her gorgeous vocals and dance skills to die for.. I mean.. I could go on.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how AOA , a group known for sexy image and who blew up because of their sexy songs or men praising song like heart attack , made a 180 degree turn and showed such a powerful empowering performance like this. Not only they put out bold feminist statement, suits not feminised with flat shoes and all. And back dancers dressed in skimpy clothes and high heels/make up / jewellery etc and given front stage and highlighted . Above all aoa wore dark lipsticks and had darker makeup so they completely threw their sexy image out of the window. There is a reason this stage blew up in korea even though the stage has been done before differently by many musicians but not on the way aoa has done. Learn to read between lines and situation.

The purpuse of their appearance was also different in AOA's performance they try to break the gender standarts and it centers around feminism. While Mamamoo started their performance with "You are the best" and the gender fluid dancers as a way to show support to the Lgbt community. Also Jimin was the one who came up with the idea of vogue dancers because they are her friends and she wanted to include them in a way (especially because it was a Mamamoo's song, their songs/lyrics scream girl power, equality etc.). If you read Jimin’s lyrics and Seolhyun’s opinion about performance and Queendom as whole shows that they all about female empowerment and want to let people know that they are more than just a group who ladies who wear skirts and singing songs, they’re also can do what they want. I love that Seolhyun becomes mature and speak honestly on what she felt about the industry as a whole. In fact, all the member are very opinionated. Also did the Female empowerment lady say the same thing to Mamamoo as it was their song and also their original intent in the first place? Even in the video Mamamoo gives off a badass, more "masculine" feel to their performance and always have they deserve loads of credit as well. Also (lol) didn't Mamamoo already do a performance where they had the exact same concept with the male dancers in drag back in like 2016? Hey they're just telling us what's happening there in korea. Plus mamamoo doesn't have the same image as aoa. When mamamoo did it it was amazing but they have already made their feminism views public but aoa has a sexy image where they usually singing about being in love. But it is true that mamamoo did it first

Mamamoo's dancers were a gender fluid crew while AOA's were vogue dancers. So my point is, both artists did great with their performances and the DIFFERENT message they wanted to convey. So props to them both!😊❤️ As for AOA's performance becoming a bigger deal was because 1. Korea at the moment is struggling with gender equality since Korea it's still very patriarchal and feminism is still shun upon. And 2. because AOA so far have had sexy concepts (for which they were harassed a lot by knetizens... Calling them sluts etc.) so I guess for them it was a big surprise to see this side of AOA. 😊

@@barbara_018 i agree with alll of ur points but just a one question.. who was the first girl group idol in SK to bring a non-binary group to the stage? that's it.. thats the main question... and honestly.. the act of jimin calling her friends to be included screams that she had at least watch or seen or known about Mamamoo's previous stages.. the coincidence is just to big. 'To cover Mamamoo, in suits with non-binary dancers but claiming it was not inspired by Mamamoo is the biggest B.S that i've ever heard..' and my post was about the pricks calling the stage legendary. when not only it wasnt the first performance to be done like that in SK, MMA 2016 is a bigger stage compared to a low rating reality tv show... AOA was awesome, the performance was good, I've always like Jimin as a top-tier rapper. but give credit when credits is due..🙏😐

@@joebahar6711 The first girl group to bring gender fluid dancers on stage would be Mamamoo and they still remain the first since AOA introduced us to a new/different group of dancers which is vogue dancers. Also we cannot claim things we haven't seen... She could have lied or actually said the truth. Jimin in Queendom said that she wanted to include her friends for a long time and that now seemed the perfect chance maybe because she got inspired by Mamamoo or because she had the feminism centered idea already set on her mind... We will never know for sure. Also about the suits... Other groups have wore them too Mamamoo It's not the first or Last group to do it and I think AOA did it as a way to make contrast with the vogue dancers and as a slap to the ones claiming they only wear sexy/revealing clothing. As for the stage being legendary... It is. Both stages are and the messages both stages wanted to convey were well portayed. As for Koreans not hyping Mamamoo as much I have already left 2 reasons above and a third would be that maybe they where not yet ready for it. 3 years It's not a small amount of time. Korea takes baby steps each year honestly though they are still behind compered to the West.

Omg I’m so happy u talked about AOA’s performance. I’ve been requesting this since it came out. Thank you so much for shedding light on AOA’s legendary performance. As a international fan who’s country is very open already I still totally understand the importance and greater meaning this performance had to more conservative countries. As a fan of AOA, definitely no one does sexy like them, they do it so classy and clean. But, just want to say AOA was not originally a sexy concept group and it wasn’t their first choice but in this cutthroat industry they followed what was in demand at the time and surprisingly succeeded in that concept. Therefore their company FNC made them follow whatever concept made them money. These days girl groups are all about badass/girl crush concepts but back in the day it was all about being sexy. Also, I wanna mention that AOA members are also feminist themselves and this isn’t some kind of act. Seolhyun and Yuna specifically have shown support on social media multiple times. Seolhyun has been criticized for showing support many times but won’t let it affect her. Although, I just want to finish my comment by saying being a sexy group shouldn’t take away for them and shouldn’t make them any less of a feminist cause I believe everyone should be able to be what they want to be.

No offense but AOA’s queendom cover is a homage for everything that is MAMAMOO. Jimin’s bow. The MMA2016 stage of MAMAMOO with the gender fluid dancers. AOA did their research. If it was just a cover and a copy, how can it be legendary? Could have done a bit more research on your part perhaps? :)

In the western world, what Hyuna did was absolutely tame. So, from my point of view, I didn't see anything wrong with what she did. However, I understand why someone from South Korea would find it inappropriate, considering how (overall) it is more conservative than my particular country. I do not agree, however, that she should have had to clarify or apologize. Shaking/Showing her backside is NOT the same thing as flashing bare body parts. She was well covered and all you really got was a shot of her shorts. Kpop girl groups wear even skimpier outfits and do even more "inappropriate" dance moves (in regards to Korean conservative thinking) that should raise more eyebrows than a few seconds of her little shake. Also, just to clarify one thing you said about AOA's performance. Those dancers were NOT Drag Queens, they were men dressed in drag. There is a huge difference between the two.

Nini L I don’t see the issue with Hyuna when male idols get on stage half naked all the time humping the air. It’s a clear bias.

Love you guys and not hating on AOA. I loved their stage but please do more research. Mamamoo did this type of stage before with the suits and drag queens back in MMA 2016. Don’t just go and discredit their performance because that is legendary
