You never played AoE 1 back in the day did you? 15 clicks minimum
@rylanhaworth56623 жыл бұрын
Yea... people used to and probably still do... click frantically around the screen and to keep their "apm" up.. especially in starcraft. It's normal in any decent competative rts. I think people can get an average of up to 400 actions per minute even in like half an hour long games... 6 clicks a second. 90% of of them are probably useless but it does keep the hands moving and brain ticking.
@scintillam_dei3 жыл бұрын
It's ridiculous.
@guest2733 жыл бұрын
@@rylanhaworth5662 Uuuum... Well ackchyually xD let me educate you: 1) The reason why people frantically click around the screen isn't because of APM in most cases. Usually it's because of the movement system of the game. A) In LOL / DoTA2 clicking around as your hero is moving helps them keep their momentum. What that actually means in simple terms: Hero goes at speed 1. To reach speed 1 from speed 0 it takes the hero 1 second. During this 1 second he's moving at speeds below 1, so a melee hero with a speed of 1 can catch up to him while he's accelerating and hit him before he can get away. OR B) in the Original StarCraft the unit pathfinding is utter trash, so you need to spam click to constantly override it. If you've never seen "dragoon pathfinding" in the original StarCraft then I highly recommend looking it up. Units bump into each other and are quite big, so often you see a pack of 10 units and if you only click once, then 1-2 of the units is going the opposite direction! xD 2) 400 APM is a stretch, it's more in the 200-300 range. And yes, there's usually less things happening in the early game and players want to not have to build up that momentum. You get better running results if at the start of the measurement you're already running, if that makes sense. So APM spam is like "a warmup circle" idk if that makes sense. 3) In StarCraft 2 it's pretty easy to generate APM by holding down unit production in buildings when you don't have enough resources initially but the units get built as the resources come in. SC2 players often say that "Zerg APM" works in special ways, because you initially select like 20 larva and hold down the Z key for Zerglings, so those 20 commands to produce units are issued in like 1.5 seconds... Not because you clicked the Z key 20 times, but because 1 APM is like 1 valid / invalid action tracked. I guarantee you that from those 250 APM's around 150-200ish are still pretty useful - unit production / unit movement.

Do you think players will have "a civ" in Age4 Mr Viper? It seems like a good idea when there are quite a lot of differences to learn with their bonuses, units and landmarks - especially Mongols who seem as different as a StarCraft 2 faction might be
@theodentherenewed47853 жыл бұрын
I think AoE4 and SC2 tournaments for that matter should impose that you play all civilizations, in AoE4 it's easy, in a best of 7 you have to play 7 different civilizations. I'd make players play all 3 races in SC2 too, but I barely know this game to say why it isn't the case already. I'd be interested to know. For me, as an AoE2 guy, it's weird that anybody would be allowed to pick the same race/civilization all the time.
@skarthik3453 жыл бұрын
@@theodentherenewed4785 The thing with comparing aoe2 civs with SC2 races is that in aoe2 all the gameplay mechanics(almost 90% except maybe hun house bonus, sicilian first crusade, burgundian flemish revo. etc) remain same while the bonuses vary, but in SC2 the entire game mechanics of building your eco producing army etc is vastly different(IMO at least 50%), even though they try to balance them all the time for all the diff kind of maps. And I agree with OP here that Mongol seems a lot diff with their mechanics compared to other civs. And the thing with forcing Pros to play what they're not comfortable with will kill the scene. i.e. We might see lopsided and uninteresting matches where one player is comfortable with certain aspects of mechanics of 1 civ thereby crushing others but is below par with others whereby losing matches with sub optimal gameplay. 1 thing I guessed is Daut being sub par on Mongols with the micro intensive gameplay, but boy was I wrong, last I heard he was crushing everyone with Mongols. (maybe till others figure out the game, but never doubt the Lord)
@theodentherenewed47853 жыл бұрын
@@skarthik345 I understand that the differences are really big, however in AoE2 it has always happened that pros need to play outside of their comfort zone. For example Daut doesn't like water maps, yet he had to play them through many tournaments, Hera doesn't like Arena and also had to play it in mixed-maps tournaments, so I think every player should learn every strategy, especially if you want to compete for money in a tournament.
@tanyuanzheng7973 жыл бұрын
@@theodentherenewed4785 I think while like you said, AOE2 awards generalist players who are able to play outside of their comfort zone, SC2 is so specialised and asymmetric in their Race/Civ design that each of the 3 Races is so different from each other, that forcing pros to play all 3 will greatly decrease the skill ceiling overall. To put things into perspective, like Karthik said, while in AOE2 things are largely the same across civs (the same overall set of units in Barracks/Range/Stable, with civs having access to a subset of the units avaliable), in SC2, every unit is unique across races, and it is not just the unit that are different, the purpose each unit serve is unique across races. For example, Terrans have a generalist ranged unit, the marines, that scale well into the late game; zerg do not have to largely rely on melee units to overwhelm. The races also have vastly different game mechanics: Terrans produce out of production buildings like barracks like in AOE2, while zergs can only produce out of their Hatchery (town centre equivalent in AOE2), so zergs often have to choose between buidling eco or building army. In light of such vast difference between races, it is very difficult for pros to pick up all 3 races in SC2 as compared to an AOE2 pro picking random while maintaining their level of mastery over the game. I would also argue the diversity is healthy for the competitive scene as well, since it allows the pros to distinguish themselves based on their preferred styles (not to say they can't play outside of their comfort zones, and most often than not the pros at the pinnacle often master all styles of play). For example, ParTing is known for his insane blink stalker micro, Maru and Clem for their marine control, etc, and it is only possible to achieve such levels of mastery when they focus on one race to play.

You out produce any other early knight civ (france or rus) , mix in archers as you need, and you've got a super strong opening. Don't muck around with dark age horseman as they're a waste of good stone. For late game try the university tech for fire arrows, and the oovoo raid bounty stone tech, you don't even need economy and just burn buildings with 15+ mangudai instantly and get 100+ food/gold each time. Don't really like AOE4 at all, the view is sooooo zoomed in. You can only see 3 buildings at a time on screen. By contrast, in AOE2, you could see two dozen buildings on screen at a time. This is common trick among modern video game developers: you can render "better graphics" by making default zoom very high, therefore excluding many objects from the screen and therefore reducing GPU processing load. It looks great, of course, you as the player just can't see much as a result, which leads to endless scrolling.

Have they fixed the AI in aoe 4? I played it in the beta and it was stupidly easy to beat the hardest one... and this is coming from someone who can't consistently beat the hard AI in aoe 2.

I don't know man. graphics looks kinda shitty, like AoE3. AoE2 still KING

It looks worse then AoE2, even Ao3 had a better colour palet. I don't think it's just the graphics it's the entire art style, it looks like dogshit haha

A bit sad that Viper is giving up aoe2 (for now?). This game... it might be good, but honestly I don't feel like it can match aoe2. There was something very special about aoe2, and I think that aoe4 is closer from aoe3, and suffer from a lot of the same flaws. A big issue is that it's hard to distinguish units from each others, example at 7:48

@@paulchatel2215 dude viper is more or less still the best aoe2 player or at least consistently top 5 or something, the only reason I see him quit aoe2 would be due to his wrist problems

1v1 is easy ...i can beat hardest 1v1 ..in EE i can do 7 hard on islands but cheat with PT towers ... so imho a pro should be able to do 3-4 or more...for example multi coop 3x3 or 4x4 you have to deal with triples and doubles from all angles ...i would like to see you del with 4-5 armies like that at one time

its not cheating buy religion is op vs ai on ee like a glitch

Jesus, I can't understand shit in this game, it's all so similar, so boring. Am I the only one that simply think this is a horribly medium game? So disappointed. I really wanna like it, but I am just not able to. We are back in 2005 with this game, holy gosh.

Aoe2 ai got stronger after monthly patches.They probably are gonna leave aoe2 and work on aoe4.Considering the minimalistic graphics to suite every pc.
