Fear is a natural part of being alive, giving into terror is a choice that must be consciously avoided at all costs.
@zzodysseuszz
@zzodysseuszz Жыл бұрын
Fear is what kept us alive. Fear of the unknown, fear what could be and most importantly fear the unfamiliar. One knows not what dangers oneself so why assume one is not with danger when one is with the unknown? Fear, fear will check for you. Fear ensures you avoid anything potentially dangerous. However, terror….terror is a cage. Terror is the shivering cowardice upon feeling wind, hearing birds and seeing light. Terror is the cold, sharp lighting in your spine when you try to leave bed. Terror is the tight chain around one’s neck. Terror is what fear will make you when you let it. Tell me; will you let it? If you do, do you think you can crawl from the cage? Naw at the chain?

I’ve been fighting a hell of a lot of anxiety and a nasty case of perfectionism that’s plagued me for just about my whole life. Although this may not be the first time I’ve heard this message, it really helps to hear it again. Especially from the voice of a character in a game who never knew me personally. Thank you so much for this, I’ll try repeating this in my head next time I get paralyzed by my own thoughts

Fear of death, fear of failure, fear of rejection, these things are pointless. You don't fear the sunrise, a flock of birds travelling overhead. So why fear these things? If you are overcome with fear, meditate in whatever form you choose. Take slow, deep breaths to regulate your heartbeat. Much of the fear you may feel can be reduced if you calm that jackhammer in your chest. If you are an overthinker, like me, train your mind ruthlessly. Keep hold of your thoughts before they can meander into wild theory. And above all else; never act out of this fear. Regain your composure before you move, and your apparent confidence and calm will affect yourself and those around you in a loop. Danger is very real, but in this way you can control your fear of it.

@@SouthpawJoe What do you mean "the right education to be able to have the tools for philosophy"? Exercising philosophy, or "being a philosopher", isn't something you need an education to do or be. It is merely asking yourself questions and thinking about it. All you need is mind. You do not even have to listen to/study other philosophers to be one yourself. However, it is helpful in expanding ones own thinking to consider what has been said/written before.

I came across this video at the perfect time. I am usually such a "fearless" dude (not like a daredevil or anything outlandish, but I am the type to just do things and take up new experiences without a real worry), but today I had a weird sensation I hadn't felt in a while. Fear. Real fear. Fear that I couldn't seem to fight or explain. I am a martial artist, and recently started doing MMA training classes to begin competing, and when it came time to spar, I sat out until the class was over (only then did I start to want to get in the cage). This was very unusual for me, being that I usually have no fear of diving in with anyone, no matter the size or skill. But today of all days, I kept having this unnerving voice in my head saying "I don't want to get hurt". This video helped me a lot. Especially the part where it states "can I operate with a lump in my throat, yes", etc. I'm going to challenge myself the next time that intrusive fear comes in when I'm training "Can I take a punch to the face, yes", "Can I handle a kick to the body, yes", "Can I work off the ground if I'm swept or dumped, yes". Whats even funnier is that I've been beat to a pulp before (I once had a WBC kickboxing champ break my nose), and still kept getting up like nothing happened. I am not sure if it was an off day, if the devil was trying to get to me, or if I had a random change of heart, but for whatever reason, my mind couldn't think of all the times I had done well and faced adversity in the ring/cage, and only fed me images of me losing and getting hurt. Thank you for this video. I'm not usually one to dump a big comment like this on a video, but to quote the goat Joshua Graham: "It's not something I enjoy, but I pray to God someone may learn from my mistakes".

@@Userkaf_II here i can try to help you understand. The point of the video is to not let fear, or use the idea of fear, to control our lives. We do this by thinking less about what might happen, eternal punishment for our sins or heaven, and instead focusing on our current selves. Dont let the fear of the future dictate your actions of the current. And thats just if you put religion into it for some reason. The real answer is you shouldnt let worry about the outcome prevent you from doing what you need to in life, no matter how hard it may seem and u might still fail which is ok “He is the master not who has never failed once, but he who has failed 1000 times and corrected his mistakes”

One way I overcame my fears and most of my phobias was exposing myself to them every day. It sucked but over time, I became numb to what I feared and things became boring and bland. Fear is needed for a balanced life, having something to fear truly brings out some of the best moments of life.

" We live in faith that our bodies will work as intended. " After four years of chemo I can say, faith is NOT enough. Listening to what your body tells you is wrong is also helpful, but if it's something minor like nerves? That's something you can ignore and press on. Pain? You can tell yourself to ignore it for just another second. Just another second. Just another hour. Another day. I learned the limits of my body when I saw it withering away from chemo and leukemia and still was unable to bring myself to cry. I knew people around me needed me to be strong for them. They already had let their emotions get the better of them and shattered, leaving me standing alone on an island as the one person that could keep myself alive. To give in to despair was to give in and die. Something I saw as weakness from the way I was raised and I refused to die the death of someone that didn't fight to the end. Paid off, clearly. But it raises a good point. A thought doesn't experience itself. Your brain doesn't feel itself. You feel all these things in tandem though as if you're watching a system operate, or bound to the system as it works. Your job is simply to listen to what it needs in the moment.

This hurt to listen too. Not because it’s bad because it’s true. Too true I’ve been drinking since I was 16 I’m 21 now and I can’t stop. It’s scary I know it will kill me but the sensation overrides all other feelings, all other feelings besides guilt. I want to be a follower of Christ. I want to be a good son. I want to be good, but want isn’t enough. I need to be. And that’s the hardest challenge I’ve faced so far. I love my mother, father and family but I seek sin over them almost every opportunity. I don’t want to blame anyone other than myself, because I am the only one to blame. Mainly for not seeking help, it is my fault I am here. And it is by my hand I will stay, or move on. Joshua helped me find Christ, but I will be the only one to find a way to live with him and let his love fuel my desires. I pray anyone who shares a same feeling is blessed with a new way of living. Love god and love yourself

Listening to that speech being said by joshua Grahmn just lifted a weight off my heart in a way that I had never felft before, I must have never picked any fear lines or something in New vegas because that was new to me and I have played it for years. I never was afraid of fighting, that was one thing I could do. I was afraid of living, two very different kinds of fear. And it was very profound and one of the best things I think I could have heard to put things into perspective and one of the best arguments for faith that I have ever heard. Man New vegas was really something.

One of the strongest abilities the brain and mind are able to do. I legitimately think of this video when I'm feeling paranoid fear (often) and have no choice but to deal with it on my own. Don't know your situation, but for me, I had to move back home with family, quit the job and start again. Definitely happier now. I don't know if that's an option for you, but basically it's about going bare minimum with your obligations, going to counseling (NOT psychology, counseling, huge difference); Go to a "trauma" counselor if you're wrestling deep rooted issues. Book immediately when you read this, even if it's not business hours, leave a message, then book at least fortnightly. I've gone back to a lot of old hobbies I thought I wouldn't touch again, gotten in touch with old friends. Trauma informed counseling is different to psychology, because when you honestly 'ugly self' dump to the counselor and they don't judge, it's like that magic button that you've been begging for that could provide relief. Better though, because the therapy isn't just treatment, but starts to train you in the emotional skills we either lack or have had eroded over time that Joshua talks to us about in this vid. I suspect that's why confession was said to be so effective in the past. It was practiced openness with your ugliest self. DEEP DOWN honesty is crucial. Deliberately taking the time to wait and feel the emotions and attempting to let them ooze out is crucial at the start IMO. Your deepest, ugliest thoughts (sad and selfish and angry). Something needs to change when life is that bad.

i live my life every day thinking today might just be my last day on earth, there is not a second that passes in which i’m not on guard, i am constantly paying attention at what’s in people’s hands, how i’d deal with any problems, who is higher up on the scale of risk in my head and why, nothing on this earth makes me scared but a very few things, 1 not being good enough, 2 not being there when i’m needed, 3 being alone for the rest of my life, the only problem with life as i live it is #3, my lifestyle pushes certain people away, the most important people.

I think what makes this video so powerful is the fact that this isn't being told to us by a rich and powerful celebrity, or some kind of enlightened guru, but a character that we know well. We also know that this character isn't a real person, and this allows us to be open to hear what is being told to us without bias. When you're told that money doesn't matter by a rich person, you automatically think "That's easy for you to say, you have millions!". When you're told that the only thing that matters in life is spiritual peace and enlightenment, you think "That's easy for you to say, the only thing you ever do is meditate! Your congregation provides for you!". But when we hear someone that isn't real say those things, especially someone that we trust due to them being part of a great game that we all love, we let the flow of words into our mind with no barrier or some kind of thought sorter which filters out things we believe to be wrong. All in all, great video. More people should hear this, even if it's not an extremely complex topic.

The seperation of "the emotions you experience" and "the decisions and actions you have" is a lesson I've hard to learn a very hard way. I suffer from monopolarism. I only have the depressive half of bipolarism and none of the high. When I'm in a downward episode, the emotions I feel and thoughts I experience are dark and clouded. However, I learned to seperate those feeling from my true experiences. I learned to wheather the storm and to move forward regardless. My battle will never end, but my strength can only increase. It doesn't mean you pretend you don't feel a certain way, rather, that you don't let it control your actions. You do what you believe is right and just. If you act on those emotions and do something you regret, it will forever leave a mark on who you see yourself as. That ending line of "It takes practice, but I know you can do it" is something else
