My 2 cents? They are answering players from the OG AOM (like me) who want more content without spoiling the game too much for new players as well as get some feedback right before launch. The marketing for this game has been very average so instead of putting too much money into advertising, they will let the closed-beta testers advertise their product, find bugs inside the game and make some money in the meantime. Not only are they saving money but they're making money before launch and getting very valuable feedback to make sure launch date is a success. This will also satisfy their most loyal fanbase for at least 1 weekend so very smart move. Had to say this because most people will just fly off the handle and say that the game has major issues. Perhaps they put all their budget into the actual development of the game.

Probably because not everything is completely finished. Atlanteans are also not included in the beta. How did you install the beta? It's still not showing up on my steam...
