Aomori Nebuta Matsuri - Aomori - 青森ねぶた祭り - 4K Ultra HD

The Aomori Nebuta is a Japanese fire festival held annually between August 2nd and 7th in Aomori city featuring over twenty nebutas or massive lantern floats based on kabuki or mythical stories.
The Aomori Nebuta Festival is thought to have originated from the Tanabata festival, but its real roots are unknown. It is believed that the Tanabata Festival from China and the cultural traditions of the Tsugaru region blended together. People began to make lanterns with paper, bamboo, and candles, which over the years changed in shape and size to the current nebuta.
Being one of Tohoku’s 3 biggest matsuri, the Aomori Nebuta gathers more than 3 million visitors per year and it is a highly recommended festival to check out if you are visiting Japan during the summer!

L’Aomori Nebuta est un festival japonais qui prend place tous les ans entre le 2 et le 7 Août dans la ville d’Aomori où on y trouve plus de vingt nebutas (des lanternes imposantes) inspirées du kabuki, et d’histoires mythiques.
On dit que le festival d’Aomori Nebuta trouve ses origines dans le festival de Tanabata du fait qu’une possible fusion entre le festival chinois de Tanabata et les traditions culturelles de la région de Tsugaru soit souvent évoquée. Or les véritables racines d’Aomori Nebuta restent inconnues. Les habitants d'Aomori ont commencé à créer ces lanternes avec du papier, du bambou, et des bougies, qui ont ensuite évolué au fil des années vers les formes et les tailles des nebutas actuels.
Etant l’un des trois plus grand matsuri de Tohoku, le festival d’Aomori Nebuta attire plus de 3 millions de visiteurs chaque année, et est fortement recommandé aux touristes de passage au Japon en été !

I went to Nebuta many years ago and found it impossible to get any good shots with such poor lighting. You guys did a really nice job with this one!

Thanks! The idea is to get the fastest lens possible (F1.4) and a good camera. However the camera I had at that time was not really great in Low Light (can't go above ISO800), I will try to give it another go with the new camera I have now (Max ISO1600).

the floats look a lot like these chinese lantern statues ive seen here in california. they do this "moonlight forest" here in arcadia around december to january that has floats like this all throughout the park lit up like that. its really cool!
