Great Review! i got this 3 days ago. and i never knew that it was much more different to fly FPV with a box style goggle than this swimming type google. i was seeing double at first now its a little bit less. have you experienced anything like this? any tips for newbies to fix it.

I have a pair and was supposed to get the upgraded version with a head tracker for my patience for waiting almost 3 months for my pair. I did receive the updated one but did not receive the head tracker version. It says basic version on my box. I contacted support and they said sorry it's a misunderstanding or something like that and does not come with it. So pretty much told me sorry you waited 3 months to get your goggles and we kept you interested in keeping your order by lying about getting an upgraded version with head tracker. I also had the power cables stop working on me and face foam velcro is coming off. If they fix these issues I could like these goggles.

I just got mine in the mail. I paid $250 with shipping and insurance at Banggood. I feel like my Eachine VR D2 goggles are a Chevette and these are a Corvette. These Commanders are so much more comfortable on my face and I don’t have to shove reading glasses in them. I have never tried Fatshark goggles, but these are amazing compared to what I have been using.

Hi Joshua, do you think the FS HD3 is worth $150 difference from Dom v3 ? And which one do you prefer if you have to choose only one goggle ? For my case, I am used to fly with Dom v3 but left flying for around a year and now come back. Is the IPD adjustment in HD3 give you a perfect picture ? The same as you, I have to adjust IPD to the narrowest but there is still a tiny bit from perfect (2 pictures from two eyes merged into 1 picture). So I wonder that the HD3 fix that problem (Oscarliang informs there is a slight change in shape of HD3). And do you recommend to use the RHO lens when using HD3 ? As I am near-sighted, I have to wear glass with prescription +3. Thank you a lots for always providing truthful and scientific reviews.
@sprocket3747 жыл бұрын
I'm not Joshua but I'd say no. I prefer my Dominator v2 over the HD3. The HD3 just isn't as sharp for proximity flying
@TheBigblock817 жыл бұрын
I bought both Dom v3 and hd3 because I wanted to see the difference. Dom v3 is better for my bigger nose but smaller grainy picture. hd3 is tighter on nose but so much more immersive and quality pic. my left screen turned white other day in hd3 and been using Dom v3s. I am not as confident with flying now and can't wait till my hd3s are fixed.
@ZeroFPV7 жыл бұрын
I bought a HD3 and i got a chance to test the Dom V3 from a friend. With the HD3 diopters were an absolute must for me (short sighted). Otherwise I have massively blurred Edges. With the Dom V3 I did not need diopters. The picture was perfectly fine. And as I am using GoPro lenses on all my FPV cams I didn't notice the difference between the 16:9 with 4:3 cam to the HD3's 4:3 (with 4:3 cam). So If I would buy today I'd personally would go for the Dom3 or the other 16:9 competitors with the same resolution (Aomway, Flykey, Skyzone).
@TheBigblock817 жыл бұрын
ZeroFPV I have some blur on my hd3s but very far into corners. Does the use of diopters affect the center of the picture if its already in focus?
@TuanNguyen-ls3lb7 жыл бұрын
ZeroFPV I have to use diopter when using Dom v3. And the same as you, I don't find any trouble when flying cam hs1177 with Dom v3. My friend advise I should upgrade to HD3 as it much help when racing with gates and more immersive.

How did the RHo lenses work in the Commanders? I have a pair and use the Fatshark minus 6 lenses, but like you, my eyes are a bit worse and I've got an astigmatism. I tried to take the Fatshark lenses out yesterday to clean them, but the velcro was in the way and I didn't want to scratch the glass.

It's completely up in the air. For a minute, I remember seeing a product listing with the built-in head tracker saying v2 was coming soon. That was over a month ago, and absolutely nobody has gotten any stock since then. If you find somebody with stock, they've just had it sitting on a shelf from the original shipment. There seem to be some manufacturing issues or something because with the demand for these goggles in the market, Aomway is definitely losing money not being able to put them on shelves.

Haven't read any comment about this so far: fatshark cannot do an OSD because of the modular bay. The modules have three pins designated to channel switching (2bit, 3positions, 8 possible combinations), two for audio (6Mhz, 6.5Mhz carriers), one for video, two for power and one not connected, to split VCC and GND and offer some extra stability. For now there is now way for them to relay information about channel and voltage coming from the module or the battery connection. They could maybe start using the unconnected pin between VCC and GND for "telemetry", or perhaps the modules themselves need to have OSD included. Real estate is short on those small pcb's (I know, I've designed my own RX5808 based fatshark module, based on Shea Ivey's open source project which sprouted LaForge FPV). So figuring out a way to include OSD is tough.

Why aren't the FS Dom v3's in the head-to-head(-to-head)??? Same price point and 16:9...

Mark Sherman the dom v3s don't have a receiver so you have to add that to the price as well. So if you're comparing 350 to 350 (plus shipping) that work right out of the box, then attitudes make sense why it's the main head to head. but I would like to see a head by head by head of the three

I had a chance to get a peek in these aomways when coworker received his Commander V1 in last week. Because I hadn't any experience with binocular googles, it was quite weird at begin. Picture is bright and sharp, but is smaller than in box googles (I now have EV800D). Probably need some adaptation to that. IPD knobs are pretty tight. I didn't managed to got equal focus at all screen width - had to choose between slightly blurred borders or slightly blurred line at center. Since I have -1.5/-2 myopia, seems I need correction lenses for any binocular FPV googles. However these was first googles for me where 16:9 cams did look like they should look - sharp, bright and without distorted image. Also cheaper CMOS cameras like CM800T doesn't look like Doomsday chronicles in these googles anymore. Liked the receiving noise processing with floating stripes instead of picture jerking and disappearing at such circumstances in EV800-s. Onscreen OSD and possibility to choose battery between 2S-4S is awesome. Stock patch antenna is absolute crap, but it is not relevant - I'm using Pagoda2 and Tripple feed patch antennas anyway. I will think about these when I will by mine pair of binocular googles somewhere in this year. By the way I believe that Fatsharks doesn't have OSD because they only display received picture and heavily depends from external receiver module. Probably you must use receiver modules that can display OSD overlay in received signal when you're switching channels or battery are near empty.

You should try the skyzones 02 V+. Been underrated for ages IMO. They had the OSD ages ago. I have Skyzones and HD2s. I use HD2s but only for the 3:4 55 degree FOV and fan. Skyzone IQ is better IMO - in terms of better pixels. And Syzones fit my face better than fatshark HD2s. I leant my Skyzones to a mate of mine while he decided what he was gonna g The skyzone firmware will do a graphical (histogram) scan across all channels. Their OSD shows band, channel and frequency. Just as good. IMO the skyzones beat the aomways in most ways except the fan and the HD2s in most ways except fan, FOV and aspect ratio. Unless you really like the 4:3 and 55 degree FOV (and I do) KI say avoid the fatsharks. And note the innovation in this field is coming from Chinese companies, instead of Amercian/Chinese companies (i.e. companies with US principals that are based in China and employ chinese labour).

I decided to try some of the guys Fatsharks before making a investment. Honestly was not impressed and I was coming from a Eachine goggle. The Skyzone V+ to me was a better choice. I think in the case of Fatshark. It's a lot like Crapple products. It was so shoved in our faces in everything such as commercials, movies ect. It was social conditioning. In this case, I guess I agree with Nietzsche about the Herd Mentality.. Herd Mentality is when you follow a person or a trend just because it has been a hit once or twice.

I'm exactly the opposite on the comfort issue you have, I own the commander V1S and I have the Fat Shark Attitude V5's and I can honestly say that when I'm just flying around my house and the houses on my street where the built-in recievers are managing just fine, I always leave my fat sharks and go with the commanders specifically because they are for me at least far more comfortable and no where near as heavy. I think your choice of goggles is so subjective that you should if possible try before you buy, the wrong goggles can totally ruin your flying experience and even turn you off the hobby completely, not so much with your radio which can be adjusted to taste and a replacement is far cheaper.

Those seem like a pretty good deal but i love my dominator v3 with the 3.6 true d. All that said what kinda support does aomway have? I dont want to have an issue and get someone on the phone with an accent and i can't understand a word theyre saying. Honestly id rather pay a bit more for the fatshark and have good support and that is my same argument for having spektrum over taranis. My brother in law met a multi gp guy that goes by falcon x yesterday that flys spektrum and my bro in law was telling him he was thinking of switching to taranis and falcon x asked why and he said it was because of the range taranis has over spekrtum and falcon told him that spektrum is working on a firmware update for their radios to make them better and as of right now taranis only gets 15 to 20% more range than spektrum and in most of our flying the majority of us never get far enough away to failsafe. I guess my point is ill pay a bit more for good service

The Achillez developer has an OSD solution using minimosd hardware and the realacc receivers. even makes the channel switch work.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, this is not ready for prime time. It is a very exciting development, but it requires way more hacking than most people will be able to do. And if memory serves, it even requires an external regulator for the MinimOSD.
@Just-A-Guy-Learning7 жыл бұрын
fatshark modules have a mod using a micro minimosd to get osd. Its not for the faint of heart or rookies. Its also not very clean. however fatshark does have an osd overlay for contrast and brightness. I believe we are able to use that passthrough to get the rest of our information on the screen. I would love to work on it, but I only have one set of goggles and dont want to take them apart and mess with it, when I fly daily. hopefully someone with a spare set will look into this. i believe we would be able to hide the osd chip in the goggles and then access the info from a toggle of the switch.

You forgot to mention the amazing auto record feature for the DVR, with this turned on you'll never have to remember to start recording. Not only that when you turn them on they don't actually start recording until you plug in the quad and they start getting a video feed, so if you unplug the goggles between batteries you'll have DVR files containing nothing but flight footage from the moment you power up your quad and you never have to start and stop recording.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
Fatshark DVR has the same feature FWIW.

Great review.. the fit is critical. I originally tried the flysight goggles because on paper they were awesome. Their fit was similar to what you describe on these. They're designed for either flat faces or very young adolescents who haven't grown a nose yet. Other than the fact that they just didn't work, I returned them and got my fatsharks and haven't looked back. They aren't the perfect fit either, but with the thicker foam, they're almost perfect. One key issue I'm sure you'll mention in the head to head is with the built-in diversity....you're stuck with the OEM receiver. I'm sure there will be better options. Wish list for goggles (no particular order) 1. Wish the fatshark's fan blew harder, or how about implementing peltier cooling? The white or lighter colors are critical for hot sunny days. 2. Adjustable fitting design. Why do I need thick foam. Can't they design a pair with hinges built in to allow more of a wrap-around 3. Truly open source design for modules. I'd like my goggle buttons to operate the modules. They should allow for standardized fitting to make the modules look like they're part of the goggles. 4. OSD with channel and voltage in goggles is a great recommendation. 5. Armattan like strap pad. I don't necessarily like the over head strap. I need to wear a backwards facing cap to keep from sun burning my head, which wouldn't work with an over the head strap. 6. It would be really cool if the goggles could control the BF OSD functions. 7. More tactile buttons to navigate operation more easily 8. A DVR that actually works, as in, it records what you're seeing in the goggles without dropping frames. 9. Back mounted battery that has integrated wiring in the strap so it looks clean. 10. Forward facing camera..I did like these with the flysights if they actually were usable because I don't always want to remove my goggles to swap out the battery. The FOV was too wide and the latency was too large to be useful.

I recently got a pair of the Aomway goggles, and I think they're great. However, I have only flown previously on version 1 of the Quanum face box. I have the Runcam Eagle in 16/9, and I find the picture amazing. I have been waiting for Fat Shark to bring out the next new thing, but It just hasn't happened. Being a cheap/frugal person I can't spend $500 for the goggles and another few hundred for LaForge diversity. I found the Aomway at Banggood with a coupon for $300, and jumped on them. SWEET :)

its hard to imagine what a nice pair of goggles would bring to my fpv experience. Anyone know of a two screen goggle around the 100-150 dollar range?
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
If there was a two-screen goggle in that price range, I wouldn't touch it. The cheapest you see is $300-$350. If somebody could deliver quality and bust that price point, they would have already done it. Even if somebody was making goggles for $150 retail, they could sell them for $225 and still kick every other goggle in the market in the teeth. So anybody selling for less than about $250 or $225 would make me EXTREMELY suspicious. It's like, if I offered to sell you a car for $500, you'd be suspicious, right?

I laugh when I see Fatsharks without an OSD and I'm sitting here with my mega budget Eachine EV800 goggles that have an OSD telling me my bat level and channel ect ect. The best question among all others is - how to not spend +60$ if you're buying any "good" googles from 300$ price range and above from Banggood and similar shops outside EU or US. Seen the price of these things in local shops :(
@Jacobskate7 жыл бұрын
I think what josh is saying is 100% if you already have fatshark HD2's or HD3's or even v3 i wouldn't bother with the commanders, if your on a low budget and can't afford the fat shark's then there great. i personally like my skyzone SKY02S V+over the commanders ad they are the same price.
@StolenDog7 жыл бұрын
I think the Aomways are great if you've not owned the higher tier range of Fatsharks. I went from box goggles to the original version of these Aomways and can say that I'm very happy with them. The only issue I have is the patch antenna on it is useless. I changed to an Menace patch and it's very noticeably improved performance when flying behind trees and so forth. I think value for money wise they are right on point at the moment, sure the Fatsharks are better in some regards, but you pay a lot more for them so they should be.

@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
I suspect there must be a reason why all the cheap goggles have come with a 32-ish FOV, except the Attitude SE, which explicitly were a one-off based on "finding some screens in the back of a warehouse" or something like that. I have a hunch there is something about the screens or the optics that makes it hard to do the larger FOV, or somebody would have knocked off the Attitude SE by now.
@finbenton7 жыл бұрын
They are clearly buying crap screens that were originally designed for some other applications and just using them in FPV goggles, Im sure fatshark is big enough to design and order their own design eye monitors... but they are too innovative for that :p
@icerook15607 жыл бұрын
Joshua Bardwell it's actually the lens system used, the OLEDs are pretty small and considering the depth, they must be maxing out to the point the edges get blurry/not acceptable

Joshua, You have to look at the new Skyzone goggles. For some reason nobody cares about Skyzone even though (in my opinion they are better). Its just crazy they are not even considered by 90% of the people out there. I had the original SkyZones and then stupidly whent to Fatshark for a while, and now I am back to Skyzone. If you like the OSD on the Aomway Commanders, you will really like the SkyZones. Not to mention that the sensitivity is close to that of the LaFordge. Also although the Fatshark HD3s have a wider FOV it does not matter because 15% of the FOV is blurry thanks the Fatsharks crappy optics. So, in the end the SkyZones have more usable screen because the whole thing is sharp. I doubt I will ever buy Fatshark again.

Love mine too. The faceplate shape is unkind to me in the same way, and the DVR support isn't that great... but the AOMWAY viewer/DVR setup for Android setups takes care of that and adds extra features for a total price that's still better than these.
