For me these days, the range on digital walksnail is so much better than analog, as in perfect picture through trees and at a distance too, It's not about the picture, it's mainly about the latency feel. After some digital flying you get better at predicting and reacting to bad signal. Analog still feels better, but not by much, it is a more accurate fly with analog. @@ST19859

35:35 Also, if you currently own a pair of good analog goggles, remember that if you buy the HDZero goggles you'll be able to sell them and that'll offset the majority of the extra cost for the HDZero goggles. Whereas if you buy the walksnail goggles you'll have to keep those goggles if you still want to fly analog at all.

Oh dude! This needs to be pinned because knowing this was open source, I felt like this reflected badly on the codebase because even with high latency or reduced frame rate / quality doing this should be possible and would have been added by somebody, long ago. Glad to see I was right, hahah, a feature getting clobbered in an optional update is not a big deal, I presume firmware can be rolled back, so I think i'll make these goggles my first purchase :)

Great video and really helped me learn some different system options and their features.. I like how the Hdzero has a built-in mic, because even though you can hear the fan's, you can still hear everything your saying just fine.. I really like the open-source HDZero goggles, and beginning to think more and more about ditching DJI just out of principal. In my opinion when your spending that much on something and you cant even control even the most basic settings if not already available, then youre basically screwed with the Dji stuff. I wouldnt be surprised if Dji adds remote id modules in a new version of the air unit so that it can be "easily activated when use on drone's over 250g". This might appeal to a lot of people who want to keep things more simple and stay compliant, but that sure seems like a slippery slope to me if i ever saw one lol.. Bc you know prob the best how Dji operates and basically never listen's to their customers unless its going to sell more new drones or the newest accessories conveniently required for new features they add and tease in your face. Im looking at you DJI, and not supporting the Air 2s, not supporting the FPV Goggles V2's, and also not being able to use the Motion Controller v1, you need the MCv2!! .. which is kind of crazy just to use your camera drones in fpv mode a few times lol.. Not to mention the new DJI RC controller sticks and buttons already work (no video, displays a custom error message for needing the MC2 to fly it, but you connect everything and then power off the MC2 off, and then the DJI RC on, while the drone is already taken off and hovering somewhere away from the home point, and then fly with the RC controller now as an unofficial workaround that works perfectly, but they still dont officially support it yet... Its a shame the Goggles2 have no Video Input at all, but they really should have HDMI-input for that price and it would justify the differences in the goggles2 and new goggles integra. Especially when the cheaper version has built-in gps which at this point for a dji drone like an Avata, its much easier to take off rather than plugging in the phone every time. Or maybe thats still the case anyway idk.

The one reason to get the 4-in01 internal protocol on my RadiioMaster TX16S Mark II Max Radio Controller (M2) × 1 ELRS (FCC) / AG01 Hall Gimbal / Carbon Fiber Red" is because later I cold have added an external ELRS module providing the full flexibility available. This was excellent information and this was one of the last things I havebeen trying to research and learn. I have been researching how to get optimal reuse of all possible gear for mix and matching and flyihn many different builds. Miniwhoops. 31/2", 5" (AOS 5.3"), 6", 7", 8", etc. I first bought a JDI Mini 4 Pro FLy more combo for my 1st drone and quickly learned I was boxed into that tech when looking to buy other platforms and reuse the gear. To do that, EVERYTHING would have to be all JDI - for the most part. So I have been trying to learn which goggles and controllers provide optimal reuse for all the listed platforms both for Freestyl, Race and L/D where possible. Tooks lots of research and naturally, no one wants to own 1-for-1 goggles and controllers per drone. That's NUTS!! That's what I did weeks of research for to mitigate. This video pretty much put it all in a nutshell. I already know controllers from mu history with RC on 1/8, 1/10, 1/12, and 1/18th scale car/truck platforms from backing the days. TEam ASsociated, Losi, etc. But the FPV and all related hardware and the GPS stuff was all new. The speed controller stacks and wiring harnesses different too naturally. But brushless and electronic speed contorller (ESC) I know all about. This instruction informed me of everything I was wondering about. What was the best reuse, and covering analog and HD. I will not be buying anything JDI anymore, but know I understand how to pick and choose the bind-and-fly (BNF) drones. With the HDZero, we can match receivers and cameras for the drone and desired output. And I can use the HDZero on pretty much every drone, except any BNFs that someone purchased with the JDI air receiver and matching camera. And the HDZero opens up the flexibility to purchase other platforms with other receiver3es, digital or analog and run them all in a single headset. I also grabbed a "TX16S Mark II Max Radio Controller (M2) × 1 ELRS (FCC) / AG01 Hall Gimbal / Carbon Fiber Red" radio for now and that one should work well as a central unit to control all builds as well. And we also have the nice DHZero VRX units, so we can use our HDZero builds in other headsets potentially when needed or when curious. The missing information and gaps really helped to finish painting the whole picture and I think I have it now. The next step is to use the built in or better mics and start receiving and transmitting voice commands from the goggles / headsets. Thats the next logical step I would think, that along with more integrated movement controls w/ some augmented reality. Do you think the flagship TX16S MarkII Max with all the upgrades is a good radio for awhile? And was it a mistake to grab the ELRS version compared to the 4-in-1?" The RadioMaster Boxer top of line looks decent as well, but not as nice as a screen. Should I have grabbed the 4-in-1 protocol or the ELRS and can I change those modules later if its helpful?? I used affiliate links to purchase a bunch including the HDZero kit with Freestyle cam and receiver kit and more. Keep up the good work!!!!

I agree. Tho it's more like "Where are your hobbies at?" do you wanna fly and take cool camera shots? Or do you want to heavily invest into researching what components to buy, wich frame, flight controller, goggles and remote - then build the drone and solder everything + flash the software, change values for your system and then maybe start in a simulator to train. Your own 5inch drone is comparable to daily driving Linux OS, man I just wanna chill out and play my games with addons(!) on Microsoft OS. DJI just works. You boot it up and you fly. Kinda, although like@@TheForceOfBluescreensaid, an Andriod phone works out of the box as soon as you press the on button, these other systems require a bit of knowledge to get yourself in the air (which is kinda fun in itself if you are into that sort of thing). If you just want to fly and get some cool shots DJI is by far the best option, but if you want to fly freestyle, race or get proper professional cinematic shots, you kinda gotta go down the rabbit hole.

I was torn between these and the new Goggles X with Walksnail. To be honest, for 600$ they are quite expensive, but they are everything I could wish from a goggle. Yes the mic could be better, but you can upgrade it. Yes there are no antennas, but you can get something nice. I want Open Source, I don't want to feel like a slave. Heck, there is so much human energy wasted by people trying to crack DJI goggles, I can't support such a company that is ultimately hurting humanity in such ways. I want people to have a choice, tinker with their stuff, become developers themselves.
@jonowillmer Жыл бұрын
Thank you Joshua for giving this product a fair review and highlighting the pros and cons. As a owner of these goggles I feel your overview was thorough and accurate. Tomorrow I should be receiving my walksnail vtx which I'm looking forward to trying out. The two downsides of these goggles for me are not the goggles fault themselves, but my genetics, 1 my astigmatism means without my contacts in I can't get the view perfectly clear(I'm hoping that those lenses make their way to market soon) and 2 the faceplate fits nicely, but because my stupid forehead sticks out further than my cheekbones by a fair bit, the goggles are on an angle facing down a bit, so I don't get to line up the lenses square to my face, I need to figure out a way of padding the lower portion of the foam. There is no light leak for me just the alignment issue. Please make sure you do some follow up videos with these goggles and can you please cover how the goggles are able to produce the Walksnail 100fps mode on the 90fps screens, I assume it's done with some converting to drop those extra 10fps? Thank you again and enjoy your weekend.
@JoshuaBardwell Жыл бұрын
There's no conversion of frames. That's a very good question. According to Carl, the screens are rated for 90fps, and DJI and Walksnail overdrive them to 100fps. This reduces their lifespan and Carl didn't want to do it. But he decided that 720p 100 was ok I guess and decided to do it.

Pretty much nailed it on all counts. I fall into that last category of pilots who are simply all in on Walksnail at this point, and I bought the Avatar goggles during the crazy coupon deal they were doing. If I were doing it again today, I might consider these and the WS VRX module, but it'd be a tough call since I don't really want to fly analog anymore at all. And while you can build a slightly lighter whoop on HDzero, the WS 1s lite vtx and camera is light enough to meet my demands for the 75mm and 85mm builds I usually fly. I have no interest in flying HDzero on my 5" freestyle builds - I know it has improved since I first flew it, but I think Walksnail (which is still improving with every firmware update) absolutely unalives it for image quality and penetration in the environments I tend to fly. All in all, I'm just glad there are good options to fit almost anyone wanting to move to or start with digital FPV at this point, and it seems the competition should continue to benefit end users. I also think HDzero is setting a great example for how companies should respond to user input in this space.

This is one of the reasons I chose DJI recently. Antennas, batteries, battery charger make these more expensive than the DJI goggles v2 right now. Plus the HDZero goggles haven't been out "enough" I think. I'd like to see how these fair after a year or two.

@adamdude Жыл бұрын
@@shaunvaughn3323 yeah I was thinking HDZero as well but I saw the amount of breakup people get and the quality of the video wasn't that great compared to DJI. Also, just flew my DJI setup the other day and the latency at 30 ms is still unnoticeable to me. I'm no pro though. I would have gotten HDZero or walksnail if I only had whoops and that's it.

Before watching this video I was sold on buying the Dji Goggles 2 (even considering FOV issues and fogging), as I tough that pure Digital feed was going to be the new standard going forward. Now I’m back to square one knowing the open source capabilities and versatility of these goggles. If analog was not a concern, would you recommend these over the Dji’s as a first buy? Thank you so much for your amazing work.

I definetly would. Think what DJI will do when new FAA rules apply. Here in Europe dji locks itself into 25mW alteady

The disappointment of Joshua not getting these before release VS the satisfaction of getting my order in before Joshua triggers a huge backlog of orders. I’d say I’m happy to have Joshua confirming what Mads and Nick Burns are saying. And nice of Mads to call HDzero silly for not sending you a pair already in his review video.

You and Madstech seem to be indicating that TrueRC (or Canada) is in distress. Maple leaves face up, not down

I had no idea it was a maple leaf.

TrueRC's website has its own logo and its products all show the upside-down maple leaf😀
@JoshuaBardwell Жыл бұрын
Why do we think it's a maple leaf.
@slackerinmotion Жыл бұрын
It may resemble a stylized maple leaf but not the Maple Leaf as the Canadian flag has a 11-pointed red maple leaf on a white background. Sheldon Cooper would have picked this apart in a jiffy.
@aphinity Жыл бұрын
@@slackerinmotion huh. Funny enough, I based it on a package from trueRC but it appears you may be right. I was only joking anyway, and thought it was funny. Also, how can you NOT see that as a maple leaf design? Pretty clear to me. Hugo is Canadian after all.

Just like phones these days. They are getting bigger and bigger. Normal fatshark still compact. Used the cinemizer goggles with external av for a long time with diving goggle cups and strap mod for a long time. Really compact and light. Also not having issues with the lenses blurred in the corners. Little bit smaller screen though.

I understand the time you put into these videos and I'm very grateful that you share them with us, but I gotta say I was a little disappointed that the potential for added latency over an hdmi cable from the Walksnail vrx to the HD zero goggles wasn't addressed in this video, especially considering you have some nice equipment to test for latency. I've been waiting on your review prior to purchasing for that very reason. I'm sure you have plans for it later. Thanks again for the video
@scottyd035ntknow Жыл бұрын
IIRC he tested latency over HDMI in his Walksnail VRX video and there was none added.
@tiforce1 Жыл бұрын
@@scottyd035ntknow seems like one brand did have added latency unless I'm mistaken. I would assume the HD zero probably doesn't have added latency, but I try not to assume.
@tiforce1 Жыл бұрын
I watched the Walksnail vrx review again because I couldn't remember for sure. The HD02 had the same latency as the Dominator HD, the Orqa had approximately 8 ms additional latency and the 7" display had approximately 38 ms additional latency. Considering the HD02 has the same latency through hdmi as the Dominator HD it can certainly be done without additional latency. I guess it would just be nice to have confirmation, and it would be really interesting to see test results at 100 fps with the HDZ patch. My guess is he's probably planning to do this and I guess I just need to be patient ;)

lightest of them all, fatshark + sharkbyte module is still 30% lighter than the hdzero goggles on their own
@ReasonRaider5 ай бұрын
Even now I think you should always get the hdzero goggles in place of the avatar x goggles for walksnail. With the walksnail sure you could put an hdzero receiver on it but even then you wouldn’t be able to make use of their 90fps camera with 12ms latency. Just wait until they make a 120fps camera 🤤 you can put a walksnail receiver on it with no performance drops or anything so might as well just get the hdzero goggles if you have the money.
