Can we take a second to appreciate how lucky we were with the Pascal 10th gen cards? It was right at the beginning of the PC hype that has culminated in the shit-show of 30th gen, the demand was really starting to ramp up, but still production was way more than enough, so people could get pretty much ANY video card, and in the exact version they wanted. One of the biggest increases in performance from one generation to another, all at barely increased price (by today's standards). No scalpers, no shortages, good prices, excellent performance... As someone with the STRIX 1080Ti, I LOVE having the headers for the extra fans. The problem with gaming is that the CPU doesn't do much, so getting airflow in the case when the GPU starts getting hot is an issue. Apart from which, if the CPU is busy, then the intake air is also warm. The extra fans help pull extra cold filtered air in and, with a well ventilated case, it maintains positive pressure and keeps temperatures reasonable (I usually see about 66-67C on the card in the case while gaming)

Sorry man, but raw performance is exactly what I am looking at when choosing a graphic's card, first and foremost!!! Secondary is cooling, pricing, noise, build quality and aesthetic's in that order. I will take the quieter, better oc'ing Auros over the loud, less performing Strix all day long. And for the record, it wasn't that it just seemed like the Asus was louder, the Strix is way louder than the Auros by over 10%, yet no matter the higher rpm, it only manages one degree cooler at load, which is within the margin of error.

I hadn't bought a Gigabyte GPU in several generations; I only got one this time because I lucked out on Newegg the day it launched when all the other cards were still sold out. It is the Aorus Extreme version and it is an absolute beast. I ended up at +75 core +400 mem clock %120 power limit 85°C temp limit. It stays at 2052 Mhz and never went over 62°C. I immediately got a second one and the OC stayed stable with two cards synced with the top card now never going over 66°C, and the bottom card (the first one I got) still around 62°C max. In actuality they both are usually closer to 60°C. Great cards overall, I highly recommend the cards. They are massive 2 1/2 slot cards though so it pays to know they'll fit in advance.

Personally I always had problems with the fans on the card after a few years and this is something which is basically never tested or considered in tests. Well, it is indeed very hard to test. But often cards use similar coolers as predecessors, so it would be possible to make a test that way. But not having this data, I basically made my choice by having the best "workarounds", which left 2 candidates: EVGA: Great reputation, option to extend warranty (paid 40$ for 10 year warranty) and warranty not void if you replace the cooler yourself ASUS Strix: The additional fan connectors Paul mentioned are actually a great way to connect an aftermarket fan My third card of choice would have been a gainward phantom card with replacable fans. But unfortunately they discontinued that line.

Love these massive 2.5 slot cards, I really hope that Asus has a Strix model for Vega, because my build theme requires such.

One of the things that put me off the Strix is the VRM and VRAM cooling solution. I know it's just my paranoia but having no direct contact from the heatsink to the VRAM and VRM bothered me. Asus did the same thing with the 980Ti Matrix, I was shocked to find the card had no cooling on the VRAM and only a small plate on the VRM.

I don’t care about aesthetics as much. which card performs the best and will possibly have the least coil whine, both the same price from my retailer which is better for running games?

The extra HDMI connection on the Aorus 1080 Ti sold me. Now only if case manufacturers put a HDMI port on a front I/O panel I would have a place to hook up my vive.

Nice that he included the Gigabyte card, a lot of people discredit them while doing product reviews.

Hey, can I get some advice. Which would be the best deal Asus GTX 1070 Turbo £300, EVGA 1070Ti £430 Inno3d GTX 1080 £400, EVGA 1080Ti Gaming x Trio £560. They are all new except the 1080 which is a few months old. Any suggestions? Also I have i7 4790k, will this be enough to not bottleneck Thanks.

For all you must look up the concrete model. For instance Asus Turbo is one thing, Dual another and then there is Strix. Same for other brands - there is base model, high-end model and sometimes middle-tier model. The model is as important if not more important then the brand!

HOw about if you compare these to a MSI Gaming X which is a bit cheaper but could be (very) close in performance.. if not the same ?

Love your videos! I'm really interested in the Zotac Amp Extreme edition 1080 ti. Please make a video on ittttt. Keep up the awesome work! :)

Don't buy a founders edition 1080ti unless you are going to watercool it, it uses a jet engine to try and keep it cool... I'm going to buy a Strix and sell my FE...
