I got my MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X for $400, i5 6500 for $150, ASRock H110M-ITX/ac $40, 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix 2400MHz $85, Crucial MX300 750GB $99, Fractal Node 304 $50, Corsair CXM 550W $50. Total including tax = $874. If I consider that the 1080Ti will cost me $779+tax = $849. Although I have to admit I got some insanely low prices on the parts. Black Friday and a lot of sniping for bargains through slickdeals and /r/buildapcsales. I also got a WD Red 4TB for $114, but did not include it there because it's technically an extra.

I finally upgraded my SC2 with a ftw3 3080. I can't wait, its gonna be here monday! The card still works perfectly fine though, I have a spare system with no gpu that has a 1st gen ryzen 1600x in it that I'm gonna use for VR. It'll be perfect for that, these are fantastic gpus and I wish they did another one with that skeletonized metal frame design. They look SO good.

I run 2 EVGA GTX970ftw 2.0+ side by side in SLI and have had 0 issues with overheating running anything on ultra. I get 140fps on average with 2 1080p monitors 1 running games the other with random web page up. I multibox EvE online 13 accounts open at once doesn't even give it a hiccup. I imagine that the 1080ti ftw 3.0 will be amazing. I'll be upgrading (mobo/cpu are reaching end of life i5-2500k, need more threads and pci-e lanes) soon and am contemplating swapping the 2 970s for a couple 1080ti's and this is encouraging. Here we are three years later. The RTX3080 launch has been a complete debacle and people were discounting their cards like crazy because the new 30 series was going to crush everything. Last night I bought this card for $320 because it's got more grunt than the RTX2070S or the RTX2080. I needed a better card for my machine (FS2020) so I bought a three year old GPU. I'll wait until the stupidity subsides sometime in March 2021 and get myself an RTX3070. Maybe. I'll still be able to sell the 1080TI for what I paid for it.

I think that the 1.093V max for these cards really limit their ability to go up to that elusive 2100MHz overclock without throttling down. I have gotten my EVGA GTX 1060 SSC to 2101MHz for about 10 seconds. It will hit 2101MHz up to 50C but it throttles back to 2088MHz above 50C. With a custom fan curve it never goes over 63C under full load and is decently quiet while holding at 2088MHz at 1.093v. EVGA makes some nice cards. the 1080ti is still rocking, NVIDIA really released a great deal of power starting with the 980ti series, and every xx80 since, my next build will be a AMD with a 5950x paired with a 6800 XT been on intel and nvidia long time, its time to give AMD some capital
