Hi, I love your review videos, thank you so much for them! Just a quick question, how should we know what compounds are weak acids/bases vs. strong ones, are we supposed to memorize them? Or is there a trick to knowing when they are weak vs. strong?
@JeremyKrug
@JeremyKrug 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind comments! For the 6 strong acids, you just have to memorize them. Strong bases are a little easier: They're the 5 alkali metal hydroxides, along with these Group II hydroxides: Ca(OH)2, Sr(OH)2, and Ba(OH)2.

at 9:22, are you sure we can just take out 2x from (0.1+2x)^2? because when I tried calculating it, I got about −0.0509, far from 6.6 * 10^-4. i hope I didn't do anything wrong.
@JeremyKrug
@JeremyKrug Жыл бұрын
The 2x is very small compared to the 0.10, small enough that we can ignore it in the equation. That's confirmed by looking at the answer, which is 6.6 x 10^-4 (way less than 5% of 0.10).

In 2:58 if k is large, the reaction will shift to the left, right? Since products are larger.
@JeremyKrug
@JeremyKrug 8 ай бұрын
If K is a large value, equilibrium will favor the right side, which means we should have higher concentrations of products than reactants at equilibrium. Great question!
@swoosh6801
@swoosh6801 7 ай бұрын
hi! just so you know, while "shifting right/left" is definitely a good visual tool, I've heard that on AP tests, it's best not to use that terminology. Instead, make sure you describe this phenomenon as "favoring products/reactants". hope this helps!

I have a question, at 9:52 of the unit 7 vedio, why the weak base is the conjugate base of the weak acid? but you have said in early vedio, the stronger acid it is the weaker conjugate base it have.
@JeremyKrug
@JeremyKrug 5 ай бұрын
Remember that there are only 8 strong bases and 6 weak acids, so any other acid or base will be weak. Pretty much any weak acid will have a conjugate base that's also weak. We can see HOW weak it will be by looking at its Ka value. Also remember that the Ka of any weak acid times the Kb of its conjugate base will equal Kw. I hope this helps!
@带安安
@带安安 5 ай бұрын
@@JeremyKrug So except 8 strong base and 6 strong acid, all others are weak, but i means you have said the weaker acid have stronger cnjugate base, like F- and CO3 2- actually are strong conjuate base, and the weak conugate base is hardly to react with the acidic solution.

Focus on the individual lessons instead of the big review. Go back to the "AP Chem full playlist" and watch the individual lessons for the unit you need help on. It will take longer than 10 minutes, but the time investment will be worth it. You can do this!
