Great update on State Route 88. Well done.👍 I have made this run many times to go kayaking on Apache Lake. My favorite of the Salt River lakes chain. The scenic vistas are spectacular. Some of the best of Arizona for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Glad it finally has reopened. I use to pull my boat to Apache lake in the 70’s and 80’s.

Carl, I was born in Mesa in 1960. Dad was hired with the Arizona Highway Maintenance Department on Highway 88 at Government Wells before I was born. In late 1960, we moved to Government Wells, where dad was the jackhammer and explosives engineer that widened Highway 88 past Fish Creek. I have many stories from that time between 1960 and 1967. I can point out the drill marks dad made along the trail. Hanging from a rope on a caterpillar on the top of Fish Creek Hill, he drilled and loaded dynamite to widen the old wagon trail as wide as it is now. Before then, it was only a one-way trail. At the second place, you stopped after Fish Creek Bridge, across the road used to be the Stage Coach Hotel and Saloon. It burnt down long ago. For reasons unknown, that stretch of road between the bridge and the rest stop up top could have been widened by cutting it deeper to make it two lanes wide. But they wouldn't do it.

You need an on-call(or full time) guy in Tucson. 😅😉😉

Currently building an off road wrecker to putz around and do some recoveries for the off road groups I’m in on my free time here in Tucson. Definitely not trying to take business from them. Just a hobby for my off days.
