South Africa's main Apartheid-era assassin has been granted parole after 20 years in prison. Eugene de Kock became known as Prime Evil as the leader of the hit-squad responsible for the deaths of hundreds of black South Africans. A second member of the notorious Vlakplaas death squad Ferdi Barnard will know whether he got parole at a later stage. South Africa's justice minister denied parole for Clive Derby-Lewis, the man who murdered South African Communist Party Leader Chris Hani. CCTV's Angelo Coppola reports

Given that figures like Winnie Mandela got off almost scot-free for being pretty much as barbaric as anything this man ever did, there is some equality here. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for acts of sabotage under due process of law and Quartus de Wet exercised the only mercy his position allowed, given that he had confessed to the crimes. I am therefore curious about why all these people feel short-changed by this man's release.

@@irishboer7124 100% correct. Few people know this. Genius how they can turn a criminal socialist terrorist into a national hero

As was the Provisional Irish Republican Army. They and Umkhonto we Sizwe served noble ends using decidedly ignoble means. Anyway, your whataboutism is tiresome. Dylan Roof and Timothy McVeigh are reactionary, right-wing terrorists. Also, none of these people/groups acted as extensions of the state as Mr. de Kock did.

TRC is a good idea where the oppressors and victims gets to know each other and feel the pain oc the victims and then the oppressor realise what the hell have I done and for whom.it takes lot of courage like Mandela to forgive his prison guards and look to the future rather than bad past
