Fun fact: A study on gut hooking fish was done on like 100 bluegill, all were gut hooked and left in a tank, line clipped but hook left in. The next day almost all the bluegill had somehow worked the hook out and the hooks were at the bottom of the tank. People seem to think the hook will rust out, but it's more likely they'll spit it long before it can even rust.

My favorite stream/river small-mouth bass lure has been soft plastic craw-fish (orange/red colors ) The orange-ish color tells the fish that it's shell is soft and digestable so the bait is irresistible to smallies.
