Nice video. There is a disconnect plug on the back of the unit you may want to unplug before you start. It prevents the battery from shorting during the disconnecting process. There is also a new battery conditioning process that is recommended for max battery life.

This would be a little safer if you did it in this order (once the batteries are removed and disconnected): 1. Remove the shroud from the "fuse" end. 2. Then remove the fuse. 3. Then and only then remove the shroud from the "cable" end. 4. Then remove the cables. 5. Install the parts on the new batteries in the precise opposite order, including the shrouds. This ensures that the terminals at the cable end are never exposed while the fuse is present. With that sequence, an accidental short across the cable-end terminals will be either harmless (because the fuse is out) or nearly impossible (because the shroud at that end is in place). I realize you can't feel an electric shock from 24 volts but a short across those terminals, if live, can deliver tremendous current, enough to heat e.g. a small screwdriver to dangerous temps, or (if the short is maintained) damage the batteries.

no this unit has hot swappable batteries. Leave the unit plugged in and it will continue to let your devices run while you change them.

Hi sir! A great project. Brazil charges high prices on the batteries. The regular RBC7 battery is costly. Battery packs cost almost as much as new UPEs. Let me ask you a question? Can regular batteries be used? 12av 7ah? Since I can't install those batteries in the same place as the original, I put them on the UPS's side with an extension. What you think?

My ebay APC Smart-UPS 1500 did not come with batteries. So I had to order the RBC7 batteries with the Battery Kit. Wrote the battery type on the removable plate and the date of the install of the batteries on the battery. Thank you for the video ! tjl

Question I own an APC Back-UPS Pro 1100 (BP1100). I just replaced the battery but after assembling the unit back I turned it on, the green LED turns on first blinks 36 times then goes off, at the same time I get a solid amber LED, beeping 4 times (5 times with a 30 secs interval). What can I do???

Bought a gov-deal auction in Georgia a few years ago and had 3 of these thrown in - one was bad. The batteries eventually went catastrophic but the units are still great pieces of hardware. Not bad for $40. The batteries have since died again unfortunately but hey $80 for 2+ years of reliability isn't a bad deal.

You will need the fuse for safety. Buy the same one as your original one or search for APC RBC7 fuse.

There are lots of budget battery sets that cost half of the APC retail price and they often come without cables, and they last but you just gotta transfer the cables.
