@nicky9589 Yeah, for me, it hits because all I've ever wanted was for anyone to see me & love me. I grew up with lots of childhood trauma, went through fostercare, and straight into an abusive marriage where I've been trapped for over 15 years. My life has been hell, I have no support system and I'm just wondering if it will ever get better or if this is just how life is. 😭

I'm right there in the same sinking boat as you. Everything in my life that was beautiful always withers and dies. Lost best friends, my soul mate that it took my 34 years to find went through trauma so terrible that it broke here. I don't even recognize her anymore and she doesn't see me anymore. Now I'm 38, alone with nothing and no one sees me at all.

It's a song about wanting to love someone who's been hurt bad, but never being able to meet and talk to the real them inside. You try to relate to them but all you find is the wall they've put up to protect themselves and the broken, barely-functioning person behind it. The sadness in knowing that there's a good person in there who could be a good friend or a lover, but that you won't be able to break them out of that prison on your own without their trust and their own effort. "3 libras" could be a poetic way of saying "3 pounds" -- the approximate weight of an adult human brain.

This song kept me from killing myself. 2001. I was in the Navy. Lost my mom the year before. My wife was diagnosed with schizophrenia and she was my only rock. And I was losing her too. I'm 44 , I've always loved perfect circle/tool. I'm about 10 days clean off of Fentanyl. This is probably like # 10 times getting clean off of fucking pills. Gone long periods of staying clean and I'm determined to make this one stick. I got to. I've almost lost 2 people oding in front of me that I super care about. I don't know how I would continue living if they had died on me. Really struggling to find anything to be happy about. Reading these comments and really understanding what this song is about made me cry like a baby!!! I understand and know depression and addiction. This song resonates so perfect circle with me. That you all for making me feel all the feels. I can't wait until my body will produce dopamine again until then I cry for everyone who's loved and wasn't seen or appreciated or lost a love one to addiction or depression. Hang in there will get through this together and happier days are ahead. If you struggle with drugs please do you and everyone a favor please stop I love you.

The first time I heard this song was right after I didn't tell someone how i felt about them.. I was so obvious.. but i thought she either didn't notice.. or wasn't interested. I wanted to tell her how i felt.. but i didn't.. then she was gone.. lost my chance.. she moved away.. then i heard this song.. and felt like my soul died.. so she ended up getting married.. and i wished so bad that was me.. we still talked online.. and i kept that part of me.. that secret to myself.. it ate at me.. i hated myself for years... the years passed 13 years to be exact.. then one day.. had the urge to stop what i was doing.. got on fb refreshed... there she was.. and back in the area too.. i added her right away.. she added me .. we talked.. she was excited to hear from me.. we talked for a while.. all these feelings came rushing back to me.. i found the courage and told her how i felt.. how i still feel.. she told me she felt the same.. and now here we are.. madly in love.. soulmate/twin flame level love.. I just wanted to share that.. take a chance.. don't live a life of regret..

That's the one We expect others to see the world as we do.. we see something SO EASY but.. everyone is doing the best they can with THEIR SUBJECTIVE REALITY We cannot see their circumstances nor how they pattern match the data of this reality. We SHOULD NOT JUDGE The key point about life is.. make choices.. shit happens. BE REAL ! you will get quality feedback.. generally you get out of life what you put in.. if you are good natured you will win in the end.. but randomness is there to obfuscate the obvious... and to ensure that you MUST CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF !! change only comes from within. Sometimes you are just shit out of luck but you will always be best off if you are genuine and dont kid yourself about your EGO.. ego is not good.. it can drive us, but feed it too much and you are heading towards the dark side.. eg corporate scum (but not all corporates are anywhere near pure evil lol.. there is a reason corporations run the world, most ppl are pretty oblivious to lifes lessons!) Noone can MAKE you choose to be mad for example.. there is always a better choice just often we can't see it or are afraid of being "not good enough / a failure".. which is actually illogical.. besides if you could be MADE to choose a certain way.. prohibition anyone ? yeah it doesn't work. Bill & Ted said it best.. whoever wrote the song ! You are right... You are right where you belong.

Here’s to you Joshua Chastain. My love. Who was the first boy to ever love me at the sweet age of 13. Who I reconnected with over a decade later over his OD/ 3 week hospital stay and his stories about that time. He lived another 5 years with me. Married, step kids, and a child of our own. Until his demons caught up with him. He played this song loud when he couldn’t find words.💔 I come here to remember him.

I’m sorry for your loss. I have 6 years without alcohol and 5+ years without any painkillers which were my 2 substances of choice. My alcohol abuse started very early on but painkillers were something that happened later in life after multiple injuries and a chronic back issue. I’ve never OD’d on opiates but I gave myself alcohol poisoning a handful of times and still deal with stomach problems from my years of drinking. Your comment helps me remember I’m still in this fight for life I can’t ever feel like I’m no longer an addict or an alcoholic I’ll always be that and I have to thank myself and God every day that I stay sober

It's VERY hard to find a song that transcends time, emotion, and space, but this is one of them. It still breaks my heart, it still gives me the chills, it's still beautiful, and above all else, it STILL reminds me of that 18 year old boy who fell in love for the 1st time in 2001, only to have my heart broken. 💔

Neglect. Once you experience it, you tend to recreate it in relationships as an adult. It follows you from childhood and is oddly familiarly comforting, but still so depressing. You want the needs met that you don’t even know you really had, but you want to fill others’ needs for attention and the validation you unknowingly crave. But it’s still the same equation of feeling void and ignored but you can’t pinpoint it. That’s what the song encompasses.

I’ve listened to APC mindlessly for decades, afraid to really look into the meanings of their songs. Slightly afraid that the meaning behind the songs would disappoint me, and slightly because I was afraid that they would mean exactly what I thought they would mean. Both of which might change my perspective of the song - but after going through comment after comment on each song, I can only say that the connection so many other people have to this music draws me closer to it as well. These songs truly speak to me on a level I can’t quite comprehend. I love it.

I'm sure this song has many meanings. For me, it reminds me of a love you would have for someone, that doesn't love you back. You "threw them the obvious", they're oblivious and don't "see you". The song really portraits a heartbreak onto the listener of a deep love that you wanted, wished it could have been, but never will be. "Oh well"

Having grown up considerably, and having experienced my own series of unfortunate relationships, I revisit "3 Libras" with a whole new perspective, understanding and appreciation. You know, I used to think this song was about an overlooked individual, wanting to be noticed by a person he cared for. But now I think it's about Maynard. He's previously expressed frustration at his fans and how they view him, and his views on music, politics, and philosophy. He feels his messages are misinterpreted. I think that's what this song is about. He's "throwing us the obvious," and rather than "seeing him," we "flew with it" on our backs, using it to confirm our own beliefs by interpreting it how we choose, rather than how it should be interpreted.

This isnt some love song its literally about feeling used and alone. This is in his book: " I was lucky enough to fall into a kind of ego addiction. 'She likes me! She likes the name of the band! She likes what I sing about!' And the more you dabble in that, the less chance there is of a relationship. She has no idea who I am. I knew the difference between attention and real connection, but I forgot it for a minute. I didn't even think about what I was doing. I was just having fun. The assignations were consensual, no-strings-attached, seemingly perfect. But the validation was short-lived. You're left wanting to be wanted for you, and you're not going to get that with these people,' he would explain years later. 'They're looking for something else, that larger-than-life thing. But you lose track of that and fall victim to your own behavior. My priority was to be validated, to be desired. This was my ticket to undo all of the dismissive behavior from family and teachers and the army of people that had ignored my potential. It was my chance to have somebody who I didn't even know and who didn't even know me give me everything in a moment, without question. Just surrender. I'd never had that. That power was new."

It's a whole Freudian thing, how we long for the whole status of the womb. Keep in mind that's a theory and doesn't necessarily explain our feeling of lack. But, as it goes, you look for that connection in others, you really want them to understand you. You start out in life trapped in all the fallacies of human thinking, namely that physical attractiveness correlates with goodness, intelligence, positive emotional qualities. But an artistic, sensitive person increasingly finds that connection difficult to find, and realistically if we're talking Freud, it's not possible to become a unified whole. So I would say this song seems to be about seeking that connection, looking for another person who makes you feel less alone. And because of human nature, you're seeking out more attractive people, which only leads you to frustration. Then, this is complicated by having fame because people can't see you. They already think they know you, even though they only know your persona. Which is not unlike being attractive, in that people are generally satisfied by your looks and don't even bother to get to know you. So you're struggling with a world where everyone likes you de facto and doesn't even care about your personality, feelings, anything. Which only complicates what is often an endless impossible quest to find a sense of connection with other people in this world.

There was a point in my life that I was very much trapped in this song... It was brutal, but the song kept me sane enough to make an effort to move on from "that" sad and unfortunate point in my life... I love this song and Band, including Tool...

the music video reminds me of yearning to heal and connect with your inner child all while fueling adult addictions and feeling alienated in your world because of it. I perceive him and the boy in the womb to be parallels of the same wounded man.

This song is like the anthem of my life after becoming legally blind due to multiple sclerosis. I went from having it all to losing my great job and not being able to drive anymore. I became an alcoholic and felt that nobody could understand my life. It was a unique circumstance, but I felt that my wife didn't see me anymore. She didn't understand the crazy life I was living and trying to adapt to.... This song made me feel like I could get my head into better things.

This came out nearly 22 years ago - i felt totally connected and understood by this song and its message. Now, hearing it by coincidence again after such a long time, it was like a sign to face childhood & family trauma after over 20years of running away. All the old memories and feelings come back while listening to this. It seems true - you can't run away from your issues - they always follow, like a shadow. Time to go through this darkness, again. Hopefully we will meet on the other side of pain.

A beautiful video for a great song from an equally beautiful album. It's a shame they couldn't keep this going.

The year this album was released my 3 child was born, a boy, my Cody. All three of my children born in the same week of October. Three libras. They keep me balanced. All grown now and living their lives. They carry my light. Praise God. I used to sing this song to Cody as I rocked and nursed him. The perfect rocking chair rhythm. My milk flowing down his cheeks as my tears rained down on him. I knew his father did not love me and never would. Is it coincidence Maynard ? how artists some how magically parallel and mirror the lives of the people who look to them, like ravenous dogs, for the emotional energy necessary to forge their way forward in life? They are all so beautiful now, my children. Their lives, so pleasing to the Lord... I love them all so much. Your music bookmarks my life Maynard. Thank you.

Allow me to be weird please. The boy who stares at Maynard reminds me of myself the 1st time I, who grew up in a very small town in West Tennessee. I can recall the 1st time I seen a man with long hair and my little brain being blown because I was taught men with long hair was a sin against God. Even though the depictions I've seen of christ was with long hair. I remember staring at this guy and thinking of all this and couldn't wait to grow up so my hair could be long too. Thank you Maynard for inspiring a child and thank you further and your band for creating the music and art you create.

I came here because I found an old binder of my dad's. He played guitar and I saw this at the top of the page and searched it up. I'm actually very happy that I found this song and I will listen to these songs more.
