I love the mantis civilization. It's a nod to Portal 2, where Cave Johnson mentions that the volunteers are going to be injected with mantis DNA, and then immediately after says they will be armed to help put down a mantis man uprising. Looks like after that experiment failed, they decided to try injecting human DNA into mantises. I love it.

This game fits in with the multiverse system that was established when the Portal Level Creator for Portal 2 was released. As a way to cut costs, during the time before his illness stuck, Cave Johnson (Cave Prime, the one that died and was replaced with GladOS) had his scientists open rifts to the multiverse, each with their own Caves and Aperture Sciences in order to steal test chambers they designed but got built in alternate universes with alternate universe resources. It's not a farfetched theory that Cave Prime sent the faulty toilet to Desk Job Aperture or had one sabotaged so that one thing could lead to another and that they could eventually steal the turret we know and love today.

I know they say it ain't a Portal 3, but I like that they went the extra mile and gave us another look at Cave Johnson and add more lore to the Half Life Universe. There's no telling how long Cave's been in a computer stuck in a giant head but it's honestly pretty chilling, hilarious, and sweet in a way since we finally get to finish his story and he's hyped to move on. He's definitely NOT a genius, but you can appreciate his enthusiasm

One thing I appreciate about this game is that it gave Cave Johnson a proper ending. Unlike in Portal 2 where it's ambiguously implied that maybe he died or something, it's nice to see what actually happened to him. A big-headed guy who got turned into a big head, lol.
@juno17522 жыл бұрын
I love how different this is from the Aperture we see in the mainline Portal games. Instead of Cave dying, Caroline becoming GLaDOS and Chell destroying the place not once but twice after being taunted with cake, we have Cave surviving (becoming the Computer Executive Officer instead of GLaDOS), the company never rebranding from its 80’s aesthetic, the company still being in business (seeing as both “Charlie” and the Warden appear to be there of their free will), Grady (who speaks with a Southern accent like the one Wheatley was “beyond [GLaDOS’] range of hearing”) being the creator of the Turrets, and we’re taunted with a pudding. The folks at Valve have some serious attention to detail.
@Mate_Antal_Zoltan2 жыл бұрын
or... get this... the game takes place in the 80s!! :O I know it's very hard to believe, but if you stretch your imagination hard enough, you just might be able to realise that games made in the present can take place in the past

@@juno1752 fr lmao I really do think this is an alternate universe, it may be based on a scrapped idea for the main games but it contradicts the main game's story/timeline. Btw isn't the orange logo the one from the 70s? I think this Aperture may have invented Personality Cores earlier than the main universe Aperture, and Charlie and Grady actually live in the past. Personally if Portal 3 ever comes out I'd want some closure for my boy Wheatley but if they decide to make it take place in a universe that is different from the first two games that'd also be fun.
