Aperture Priority Mode for Landscape Photography

Don't underestimate the power of aperture priority mode for your landscape photography. While understanding the exposure triangle is an invaluable skill for landscape photographers - aperture priority mode can help the most seasoned landscape photographer have an easier time in the field.

Great info again Jeffrey. I will fall back on this video several times I’m sure.Bought the Zelda L Bracket some weeks ago and it’s also great for giving a better hold of the camera when doing hand held shots.

Nice work. I am currently in love with aperture priority mode. I found it's easier than manual(+auto iso) that I use. I am thinking it may be better to use shutter priority mode for moving subject, although I usually shoot still object. Have you tried shutter priority over manual+auto iso for moving object?

I am a big fan of aperture priority mode. I was just using it yesterday in a local park when I was out without a tripod. Super convenient and helps me look more for compositions than worrying too much about manual settings. For moving objects, shutter priority can be better, since often there is a shutter speed you don’t want to go below. Like you I tend to shoot still objects, so aperture priority is usually the mode I am in if not photographing with manual settings. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting this video. Most of the time I use Aperature Priority mode for landscape photography and set ISO at the base level. The exception is when shooting seascapes. In that situation, I need to manage depth of field AND choose a shutter speed that will either show water motion or freeze it, depending on the scene. At the same time, the light is often changing quickly. Therefore, I use Manual mode with Auto ISO and put a limit on how high the ISO can go. Some photographers do the same thing when shooting sports.

Thanks for watching! I definitely think aperture priority is an underrated option for photographers! I think it is a pretty powerful option and helps let the camera do more of the work. That sounds like an interesting option for shooting seascapes! I wasn't thinking about the also quickly changing light in that situation - great tip!

You have to set an aperture at the end of the day, so why not do it at first? Of course different compositions may require different apertures, to blur background for instance, but aperture priority does save a lot of time and fiddling with the camera if you are moving around an area and taking multiple shots.

I find it useful in certain situations. I mentioned using it for sunset shots so one didn't have to fiddle with camera settings as much as the light moved quickly. I am anxious to try that more than I have! Thanks for watching!
