🇨🇦/🇺🇸... I remember when you bought the Salomans... They practically glowed in the dark!!! 🤣 Frankly, I think you could give them a proper scrubbing and spray them with a conformal waterproofing and they'd be almost as good as new... maybe for backup. OR you could sign them and auction them off!!!!! 😂😂🤣😂

Excellent video as usual Henry. As you said, with the light moving so fast hand held is best. Great image's as usual.

Gaiters are one of the most underrated bits of gear! I use mine all the time(I have 3 pairs!), zipped together as a waterproof sit-pad (or a kneeling pad in the tent). Or on my legs in summer when going through tick-laden grass in shorts. They can also protect bare arms when bushwhacking through thorny trees. Or even, in the winter, just use them as gaiters! Brilliant things.

The wife got me two recent bits of kit and they've been a revelation - A hoody blanket thing that you wear like a hoodie and a pair of wellies. Being able to jump in the burn for shots and stay toastie warm in the car while (Trying) to get a kip have been a comfort.

You cracked me up talking about putting on the gators as I was exactly the same the first time...didn't have a clue and was trying to put them on back-to-front and all sorts 🤣 I got them for a trip to Scotland and wouldn't be without them now. Here in Australia they're invaluable in the rainforest to prevent leeches and ticks, yet I hardly see anyone else with them....maybe they all just give up trying to work them out! 😄 I love your second image with that shaft of light hitting the green valley...wonderful!

Henry, thank you again for always bringing so much fun and truth to your videos. I am so impressed from watching your talent grow over the years since your first videos. You have always had a good eye for detail. To witness what you have built and become from loving what you do, has been so inspiring to so many of us. I hope one day I get the chance to shake your hand and tell you, well done!

Same thing happened to me recently: Set up my tripod, composed the scene, and that's when the clouds moved in and the sun disappeared. Waited for 20 minutes but the clouds kept building up. So I left without a picture. That's also part of landscape photography. 🤷‍♂️🙂

good morning Henry, thanks once again for a great video, i wanted to make a comment on your new boots. i have had the same boots for the last 15 years, having completed the Annapurna circuit and Cotopaxi in them as well as lots of scottish munroes and much of the Lake dirstrict fells, and in all that time they have never failed once, a grat choice and i hope they serve you as well as mine have, they are still in great nick thanks again Henry keep up the great vids

Hi Henry, another interesting video and thanks for sharing. You can’t beat a pair of good boots as the creativity dies off if you’re cold, wet or otherwise uncomfortable. So photography gear isn’t always about the camera, you need to get in position to be able to press the shutter button!

Do you have day-light-savings-time in the UK… ??? Changing the time one hour back in Fall and 1 hour forward in Spring to accommodate agrarian society over a hundred years ago… We in the (USA) actually voted to end this BS, but still has not been instituted ending day-light-savings-time (plug in congress over this) LOL! Yes, I do understand your emotion about the angle of light regarding time of day. Great feeling, you have so much to work with. Enjoy it while it lasts Sir - Cheers 🍻

Top drawer images Henry. Those first two handheld amazing. So glad you covered the benefits of Aperture Priority mode and showed us some of your work without a tripod. I am not a lover of my tripod and rarely take it with me. The image stabilisation on my GX9 and OMD 1 is great but I do need to practice with the tripod when needed in not so good light. Thank you for your weekly videos. Always a highlight of the week.

Lovely boots mate. Well, I've finally upgraded my D3000 with the dodgy 35-80mm f:4. I picked up a D300s body + 16gb cf card + battery grip + 3 batteries and charger. Manfrotto 144 tripod all for £80. A complete Nikon D40 kit with 18-55 mm & 55-200mm kit lenses, as well hama tripod, lowpro bag and filters for £120. It worked out cheaper to buy the kit than the lenses separately. Both cameras have less than 5000 actuations and all for £200. 👍 I am over the moon mate.

Nice one, Henry. I was at Borrowdale recently and only got a few precious minutes of light. But certainly BRILLIANT just to be out there. One question ... how is your autoISO set up (eg 64-3200, 1/50 minimum?), and what metering mode did you use (matrix?)?

Very nice video, Henry! Yeah, light is the essence, isn't it. I shoot mostly manual, but still, even if I use an old all manual camera, I use to have it set so that I can take a picture within seconds, because we never know when that light will appear.

Considering you can get the speed you want in AP by adjusting the iso & aperture you want by doing the same in SP & you have 1/3 or a stop in all exposure modes, anyone saying you need to shoot in manual mode for control is just telling people they have no clue 🤦‍♂️

If the light is changing rapidly I often use auto iso with manual settings. I am not sure of the benefits of using auto iso with aperture priority as it could cause some differences in behaviour between cameras from different manufacturers. As you say live histograms are a game changer. Used with highlight clipping blinkies they make metering modes such as matrix, centre weighted and spot metering largely redundant. Using auto iso with exposure compensation allows rapid exposure optimisation and it is better to end up with an image with some noise than miss the shot altogether.
